  • This study was performed to compare the shear strength of the bondings between stainless steel crown/direct type composite resin and stainless steel crown/indirect type composite resin. Four groups of bonding conditions were prepared. Two groups of bonding conditions were made by the indirect type composite resin system and the other two groups were made by the direct type composite resin system. The shear strength tests were carried out using universal testing machine, Model 4465 of Instron Co.. It was indicated that the bond strength values of the indirect type composite resins were higher than those of the direct type composite resins. TE-SE group was superior to the TE-ONE in indirect type resin system. These results were thought to be the high degree of the polymerization accompanied with temperature and pressure of the resin of indirect type resin. It was also found that indirect composite resin contains less amount of porosity in resin.

  • A gene, nprM, from Bacillus megaterium ATCC 14945 was obtained by PCR using primers synthesized based on two nprM sequences from two different strains, and cloned into Escherichia coli. The gene nprM encoded an extracellular neutral protease, and the molecular mass of the expressed enzyme was estimated to be approximately 36kDa on a denaturating gel. The enzyme was activated by $Ca^{2+}$, and the optimum concentration of $Ca^{2+}$ was 5 mM. The enzyme was inhibited by EDTA but not by PMSF. The optimal pH and temperature of the cloned enzyme were $50^{\circ}C and pH 7.5-8.0, respectively, and were similar to those of the enzyme from the gene gonor cell. The cloned NprM caused internal cleavage of the native endoglucanase of B. subtilis BSE616 as a model foregin protein, and resulted in a small truncated but still active endoglucanase.

  • There are multistage preheaters in the power generation plan to improve the thermal efficiency of the plant and to prevent the components from the thermal shock. The energy source of these heaters comes from the extracted two phase fluid of working system. These two-phase fluid can cause the so-called Flow Accelerated Corrosion(FAC) in the extracting piping and the bubble plate of the heater for example, in case of point Beach Nuclear Power Plant and in the Wolsung Nuclear Power Plant. The FAC is due to the mass transport of the thin oxide layer by the convection. FAC is dependent on many parameters such as the operation temperature, void fraction, the fluid velocity and pH of fluid and so on. Therefore, in this paper velocity was calculated by FLUENT code in order to find out the root cause of the wall thinning of the feedwater heaters. It also includeed in the fluid mixing analysis model are around the number 5A feedwater heater shell including the extraction pipeline. To identify the relation between the local velocities and wall thinning, the local velocities according to the analysis results were compared with distribution of the shell wall thicknes by ultrasonic test.

  • In this paper, we investigate how the power consumption of a heat pump dryer depends on various factors in the drying process by analyzing variables that affect the power consumption. Since there are in general many variables that affect the power consumption, for a feasible analysis, we utilize the principal component analysis to reduce the number of variables (or dimensionality) to two or three. We find that the first component is correlated positively to the entrance temperature of various devices such as compressor, expander, evaporator, and the second, negatively to condenser. We then model the power consumption as a multiple regression with two and/or three transformed variables of the selected principal components. We find that fitted value from the multiple regression explains 80~90% of the observed value of the power consumption. This results can be applied to a more elaborate control of the power consumption in the heat pump dryer.

  • In general, solar filaments are divided into two parts; one spine and several barbs. Barbs are seen as if they protrudes from the spine. Until now there are many controversies about the structures of a barb and spine. Recently, New Solar Telescope was installed at Big Bear Solar Observatory. Its clear aperture is about 1.6m and it is the largest telescope among ground-based solar telescopes. Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) developed by SNU and KASI was also installed in a vertical optical table in Coude room of the 1.6m NST. It is simultaneously able to record two lines; $H{\alpha}$ and Ca II 8542A lines. On 2010 July 29, we observed a portion of a solar filament located in northern hemisphere with FISS and it had a well-developed barb. And we also observed a potion of a spine. In order to analyze the data, we used the cloud model and obtained physical quantities of the solar filament. Temperature of the solar lament ranged between 4500K and 12000K and non-thermal velocity ranged between 3km/s and 6.5km/s. By comparing physical quantities of a barb and spine, we try to understand these structures of the solar filament.

  • [FeⅡ2(N-Et-HPTB)Cl2]BPh4(1), where N-Et-HPTB is the anion of N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(N-ethyl-2-benzimidazolylmethyl)-2-hydroxy-l,3-diaminopropane, has been synthesized to model dioxygen binding to the diferrous centers of proteins. 1 has a singly bridged structure with a μ-alkoxo of N-Et-HPTB and contains two five-coordinate iron(Ⅱ) centers with two chloride ligands as exogenous ligands. 1 exhibits an electronic spectrum with a λmax at 336 nm in acetone. 1 in acetone exhibits no EPR signal at 4 K, indicating diiron(Ⅱ) centers are antiferromagnetically coupled. Exposure of acetone solution of 1 to O2 at -90 ℃ affords an intense blue color intermediate showing a broad band at 586 nm. This absorption maximum of the dioxygen adduct(1/O2) was found in the same region of μ-l,2-peroxo diiron(Ⅲ) intermediates in the related complexes with pendant pyridine or benzimidazole ligand systems. However, this blue intermediate exhibits EPR signals at g = 1.93, 1.76, and 1.59 at 4 K. These g values are characteristic of S = 1/2 system derived from an antiferromagnetically coupled high-spin Fe(Ⅱ)Fe(Ⅲ) units. 1 is the unique example of a (μ-alkoxo)diferrous complex which can bind dioxygen and form a metastable mixed-valence intermediate. At ambient temperature, most of 1/O2 intermediate decays to form a diamagnetic species. It suggests that the dacay reaction of the intermediate might be bimolecular, implying the formation of mixed-valence tetranuclear species in transition state.

  • A new concept of membrane type LNG CCS was proposed. Also, its static behavior was numerically analyzed considering the interaction between primary and secondary barrier together with securing device. Hull deflection was taken into account as an external load, together with temperature distribution across the barriers. The suggested numerical model considers both sliding and contact between the two mating surfaces of both the primary and secondary barrier, and anisotropic material behavior of plywood, R-PUF was also taken into account. Furthermore, detailed local strength was evaluated for the securing device, which is arranged between two barriers to hold the primary barrier. It was confirmed through the numerical analysis that the new concept of membrane type CCS was structurally safe under static loading condition and securing concept was structurally reliable.

  • Lithium-ion batteries with high energy density, long cycle life and other advantages, have been widely used to energy storage systems(ESS). But as ESS fires frequently occur, the safety concern has become the main obstacle that hinders the large-scale applications of lithium-ion batteries. Especially, thermal runaway is the key scientific problem in battery safety research. Therefore, in this study, we performed a numerical analysis on the thermal runaway phenomenon of NCM111, NCM523 and NCM622 batteries using a two-dimensional analysis model. The results show that the two-dimensional simulation results are generally matched with three-dimensional simulation. Also, In the case of NCM111 with a low Ni content in the temperature range used in this study, thermal runaway phenomenon does occurred very slowly, but as the Ni content is increased, the thermal runaway phenomenon occurs rapidly and the thermal stability tends to be decreased. And, in NCM523 and NCM622 batteries, chain reactions occur almost simultaneously, but in the case of NCM111 battery, it is found that after the SEI(Solid Electrolyte Interface) layer decomposition reaction, the cathode-electrolyte reaction is appeared sequentially. After that, the anodic decomposition reaction is increased and leads to the thermal runaway reaction.

  • In order to improve the overall efficiency and meet the emission regulations of boiler systems, the heat exchanging methods between inlet air and exhaust gas have been used in boiler systems, named as the waste-heat-recovery condensing boiler. Recently, to further improve the overall efficiency and to reduce the NOx emission simultaneously, the concept of the water injection into the inlet air is introduced. This study suggests the models for the optimized design parameters of water injection for waste-heat-recovery condensing boilers and performs the analysis regarding the water injection amount and droplet sizes for the optimized water injection. At first, the required amount of the water injection was estimated based on the 1st law of thermodynamics under the assumption of complete evaporation of the injected water. The result showed that the higher the inlet air and exhaust gas temperature into the heat exchanger, the larger the amount of injected water is needed. Then two droplet evaporation models were proposed to analyze the required droplet size of water injection for full evaporation of injected water: one is the evaporation model of droplet in the inlet air and the other is that on the wall of heat exchanger. Based on the results of two models, the maximum allowable droplet sizes of water injection were estimated in various boiler operating conditions with respect to the residence time of the inlet air in the heat exchanger.
