This study proposes a new two-level condensation scheme for the construction of a reduced system. In the first step, the candidate area is selected for the construction of the reduced system by energy estimation in element-level. In the second step, primary degrees of freedom are selected by sequential elimination from the candidate degrees of freedom linked to the selected elements. Numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed method saves the computational cost effectively and provides a reduced system which predicts the eigenvalues accurately. Moreover, the well-constructed reduced system can present the reliable behavior of the structure under arbitrary dynamic loads comparing to that of global system. Time integration in a reduced system can save the computing time remarkably. Through a few numerical examples, the efficiency and reliability of the proposed scheme are verified.
A novel, 6-node, two-dimensional mixed finite element (FE) model has been developed to analyze laminated composite beams by using the minimum potential energy principle. The model has been formulated by considering four degrees of freedom (two displacement components u, w and two transverse stress components ${\sigma}_z$, $\tau_{xz}$) per node. The transverse stress components have been invoked as nodal degrees of freedom by using the fundamental elasticity equations. Thus, the present mixed finite element model not only ensures the continuity of transverse stress and displacement fields through the thickness of the laminated beams but also maintains the fundamental elasticity relationship between the components of stress, strain and displacement fields throughout the elastic continuum. This is an important feature of the present formulation, which has not been observed in various mixed formulations available in the literature. Results obtained from the model have been shown to be in excellent agreement with the elasticity solutions for thin as well as thick laminated composite beams. A few results for a cross-ply beam under fixed support conditions are also presented.
This study constructs the reduced system by two-level condensation scheme. This scheme consists of two steps. First step selects the candidate area for the primary degrees of freedom by energy estimation in element level. In the second step, the primary degrees of freedom are selected by the sequential elimination scheme. The efficiency and reliability of this scheme is shown through the prediction of eigenvalues of a few numerical examples. Time integration in the reduced system can save the computing time effectively. The well-constructed reduced system can present the accurate behavior of the structure under arbitrary dynamic loads so much as the global system. Through the numerical example, the efficiency and reliability of the proposed scheme will be demonstrated.
In this paper, the equations of motion about vehicle, powertrain and brake system were derived. The vehicle has eight degrees of freedom with nonlinear tire model and the powertrain has two degrees of freedom containing engine, torque converter and four speed automatic transmission. The brake system has two states about front and rear brake line pressures. The transient tire model with first order time lag is also subjoined for low speed or stop-and-go simulation. The modeling was derived considering two points - the fidelity and the simplicity. The simulation using this model is similar with real vehicle dynamic behavior and the model is made as simple as possible far fast simulation. It is validated that the derived vehicle model can be applicable to the real time simulation.
Magnetic bearings have been widely used to support rotors without any physical contact. This however, requires the control of five degrees-of-freedom and needs a separate driving motor. This paper introduces selfbearing motors which use the combination of a rotary motor and a magnetic bearing. These motors are suitable for use in high speed rotor or in special circumstances because they are small in size and can replace the contact components. The radial type one has the merit of being small in size and capable of controlling two degrees-of-freedom in x and y directions. The axial type motor controls only one degree-of-freedom in z direction. Theoretical background of the functions, of the motor and magnetic bearing will also be introduced. New research works are reviewed and the application in rotary blood pump is discussed.
The computational model and a new eigenvalue solution algorithm for large-scale structures is presented in the form of parallel computation. The computational loads and data storages required during the solution process are drastically reduced by evenly distributing computational loads to each processor. As the parallel computational model, multiple personal computers are connected by 10Mbits per second Ethernet card. In this study substructuring techniques and static condensation method are adopted for modeling a large-scale structure. To reduce the size of an eigenvalue problem the interface degrees of freedom and one lateral degree of freedom are selected as the master degrees of freedom in each substructure. The performance of the proposed parallel algorithm is demonstrated by applying the algorithm to dynamic analysis of two-dimensional structures.

Fruit harvesting robots should have more diversity and flexibility in the working conditions and environments than industrial robots. This paper presents an efficient optimization algorithm for redundant manipulators to avoid obstacles using dynamic performance criteria, while the optimization schemes of the previous studies used the performance criteria using kinematic approach. Feasibility and effectiveness of this algorithm were tested through simulations on a 3-degrees-of-freedom manipulator made for this study. Only the position of the end-effector was controlled , which requires only three degrees of freedom. Remaining joints, except for the wrist roll joint, which does not contribute to the end-effector linear velocity, provide two degrees of redundancy. The algorithm was effective to avoid obstacles in the workspace even through the collision occurred in extended workspace, and it was found be to a useful design tool which gives more flexibility to design conditions nd to find the mechanical constraints for fruit harvesting robots.
Recently, earthquake proof technology has been widely applied to both new and existing structures and bridges. The analysis of bridge systems equipped with structural control devices, which possess large degrees of freedom and nonlinear characteristics, is a result in time-consuming task. Therefore, a piecewise exact solution is proposed in this study to simplify the seismic mitigation analysis process for bridge systems equipped with sliding-type isolators. In this study, the simplified system having two degrees of freedom, to reasonably represent the large number of degrees of freedom of a bridge, and is modeled to obtain a piecewise exact solution for system responses during earthquakes. Simultaneously, we used the nonlinear finite element computer program to analyze the bridge responses and verify the accuracy of the proposed piecewise exact solution for bridge systems equipped with sliding-type isolators. The conclusions derived by comparing the results obtained from the piecewise exact solution and nonlinear finite element analysis reveal that the proposed solution not only simplifies the calculation process but also provides highly accurate seismic responses of isolated bridges under earthquakes.
In this paper, the parabolic antenna aims to the precise location of a moving ship or car that can be designed system using the gyro sensor. The parabolic antenna has controlled by stepping motor that is a lot of noise and slow response of speed. It has solved the problem which is noise and slow response using the BLDC motor. Also, in order to suppress the noise two-axis control and a separate encoder to the six degrees of freedom motion system was implemented in a precise location. Generally, the gyro sensor is not required to system that doesn't move the six degrees of freedom motion system. But the system will be applied to the moving such as ships or cars. Finally, we presented the position control algorithm at the sometimes controlled both gyro sensor and BLDC motor. This system was tracking that the location of the antenna to the desired angle and errors almost didn't happen when the system was moved 6 degrees of freedom.
The main objective of this paper is to develop an innovative methodology for the vibration suppression control of the multiple degrees-of-freedom (MDOF) flexible structure. The proposed structure represented in this research as a clamped-free-free-free truss type plate is rotated by motors. The controller has two loops for tracking and vibration suppression. In addition to stabilizing the actual system, the proposed feedback control is based on a genetic algorithm (GA) to seek the primary optimal control gain for tracking and stabilization purposes. Moreover, input shaping is introduced for the control scheme that limits motion-induced elastic vibration by shaping the reference command. Experimental results are presented, demonstrating that, in the control loop, roll and yaw angles track control and elastic mode stabilization. It was also demonstrated that combining the input shaper with the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) feedback method has been shown to yield improved performance in controlling the flexible structure system. The broad range of problems discussed in this research is valuable in civil, mechanical, and aerospace engineering for flexible structures with MDOM motion.
