  • The dynamic character of a system of the governing differential equations for the one- dimensional two-fluid model, where the momentum flux parameters are employed to consider the velocity and void fraction distribution in a flow channel, is investigated. In response to a perturbation in the form of a'traveling wave, a linear stability analysis is peformed for the governing differential equations. The expression for the growth factor as a function of wave number and various flow parameters is analytically derived. It provides the necessary and sufficient conditions for the stability of the one-dimensional two-fluid model in terms of momentum flux parameters. It is demonstrated that the one-dimensional two-fluid model employing the physical momentum flux parameters for the whole range of dispersed flow regime, which are determined from the simplified velocity and void fraction profiles constructed from the available experimental data and $C_{o}$ correlation, is stable to the linear perturbations in all wave-lengths. As the basic form of the governing differential equations for the conventional one-dimensional two-fluid model is mathematically ill posed, it is suggested that the velocity and void distributions should be properly accounted for in the one-dimensional two-fluid model by use of momentum flux parameters.s.

  • This study was conducted to detect quantitative trait loci (QTL) for thirteen growth and meat quality traits in pigs by combing QTL experimental populations. Two F2 reference populations that were sired by Korea native pig (KNP) and dammed by Landrace (LN) or Yorkshire (YK) were generated to construct linkage maps using 123 genetic markers (mostly microsatellites) and to perform QTL analysis on porcine chromosomes (SSCs) 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, and 15. A set of line-cross models was applied to detect QTL, and a series of lack-of-fit tests between the models was used to characterize inheritance mode of QTL. A total of 23, 11 and 19 QTL were detected at 5% chromosome-wise level for the data sets of KNP${\times}$LN, KNP${\times}$YK cross and joint sets of the two cross populations, respectively. With the joint data, two Mendelian expressed QTL for live weight and cooking loss were detected on SSC3 and SSC15 at 1% chromosome-wise level, respectively. Another Mendelian expressed QTL was detected for CIE a on SSC7 at 5% genome-wise level. Our results suggest that QTL analysis by combining data from two QTL populations increase power for QTL detection, which could provide more accurate genetic information in subsequent marker-assisted selection.

  • Every port is competing for attracting loyal customers from other ports to achieve more profits stably. This paper proposes a data-mining scheme to facilitate this process. For resolving the problem, the OD (Origination-Destination) data are gathered from the AIS (Automatic Identification System) data. The OD data are clustered according to the arrival dates and ports. The FP-growth algorithm is applied to mine the frequent patterns of ships arriving at ports. Maintaining a loyal customer list for port updates and accuracy is critical in establishing its usefulness. These lists are critical as they can be used to provide suggestions for new products and services to loyal customers. Finally, based on the frequent patterns of the ships and the mode of arrival times, a formula proposed in this paper to derive shipping companies' loyalty to ports was applied. The case of Kaohsiung port was shown as an example of our algorithm, and the OD data of ships in 2017-2018 were processed. Using the results of our algorithm, other rival ports, such as Shanghai or Busan, may attract customers no longer loyal to Kaohsiung ports in the last two years and attract them as new loyal customers.

  • $^{99m}Tc$-DMSA planar scan that can analyze the functions of kidney quantitatively provides less information on a lesion than tomography scanning. Therefore, this study applied a high sensitivity all-purpose collimator that is sensitive to photonic signals to $^{99m}Tc$-DMSA and carried out a clinical scan with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). And diagnostic accuracy and time requirement of were analyzed to know the clinical usefulness of the applied scanning method. 10 subjects were intravenously injected with radiopharmaceutical product (1.0-1.2 MBq/kg) and scanned by a gamma camera with planar scanner (high resolution (HR)-mode, $256{\times}256$, 50 kcts/view, 4 image) and SPECT (HR / high sensitive (HS)-mode, $128{\times}128$, step and shoot, $180^{\circ}$, variable sec/angle, total 64 frame, OSEM reconstruction), respectively. The collected data was compared with an analysis program. The results showed that HS-mode SPECT detected total counts 1.8-5.6 times more than planar scan. Relative renal function evaluated based on the counts was not significantly different by two scanning methods (p=0.96) and it turned out that test time was shortened by 39% when HS-mode SPECT was used. Therefore, SPECT using HR, HS-mode collimator could analyze renal function more quantitatively than using planar scan and the former could diagnose the location information of a lesion more accurately than the latter as well as shortened test time requirement, which demonstrated the clinical usefulness of $^{99m}Tc$-DMSA renal SPECT using high sensitivity all purpose collimator.

  • In this paper, a new high performance data cache scheme that improves exploitation of both the spatial and temporal locality is proposed. The proposed data cache consists of a hardware prefetch unit and two sub-caches such as a direct-mapped (DM) cache with a large block size and a fully associative buffer with a small block size. Spatial locality is exploited by fetching and storing large blocks into a direct mapped cache, and is enhanced by prefetching a neighboring block when a DM cache hit occurs. Temporal locality is exploited by storing small blocks from the DM cache in the fully associative buffer according to their activity in the DM cache when they are replaced. Experimental results on Spec2000 programs show that the proposed scheme can reduce the average miss ratio by $12.53%\sim23.62%$ and the AMAT by $14.67%\sim18.60%$ compared to the previous schemes such as direct mapped cache, 4-way set associative cache and SMI(selective mode intelligent) cache[8].

  • Concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) composite girder is a new type of structures for bridge constructions. The existing design codes cannot be used to predict the thermal stress in the CFST truss girder structures under solar radiation. This study is to develop the temperature gradient curves for predicting thermal stress of the structure based on field and laboratory monitoring data. An in-field testing had been carried out on Ganhaizi Bridge for over two months. Thermal couples were installed at the cross section of the CFST truss girder and the continuous data was collected every 30 minutes. A typical temperature gradient mode was then extracted by comparing temperature distributions at different times. To further verify the temperature gradient mode and investigate the evolution of temperature fields, an outdoor experiment was conducted on a 1:8 scale bridge model, which was installed with both thermal couples and strain gauges. The main factors including solar radiation and ambient temperature on the different positions were studied. Laboratory results were consistent with that from the in-field data and temperature gradient curves were obtained from the in-field and laboratory data. The relationship between the strain difference at top and bottom surfaces of the concrete deck and its corresponding temperature change was also obtained and a method based on curve fitting was proposed to predict the thermal strain under elevated temperature. The thermal stress model for CFST composite girder was derived. By the proposed model, the thermal stress was obtained from the temperature gradient curves. The results using the proposed model were agreed well with that by finite element modelling.

  • In this study, the trip characteristics of workers in the city are systematically analyzed. The trip behaviors and socioeconomic characteristics of workers are analyzed using Person Trip Survey Data of 1988 and 1992 in Taegu Metropolitan area. With the results of behavioral analyses, the daily travel pattern of workers is shown as one tour contained two trips and it is relatively simple and stable. Also the rate using the same mode in a day is Presented as high ratio. So, it can be explained that the choice of worker\`s first trip is fixed his/her travel mode for his/her daily travel mode. Based on these analyses, the mode choice model for workers is developed by applying the Multi-nominal Logit Model with the choice set of bus, taxi, and car. The explanatory variables of this model include sex, age, auto, travel time, and cost. Empirical tests of the model show encouraging results. After that, the temporal transferability of the model is examined by the Pairwise t-test and five indexes far the model of 1988 and 1992. The results of examination are satisfied with each significance level of the explanatory variables and five indexes. Therefore. it can be concluded that the temporal transferability of this model developed in this study is resonable.

  • The use of system identification approaches for damage detection has been expanded in recent years owing to the advancements in data acquisition system andinformation processing techniques. Soft computing techniques such as neural networks and genetic algorithm have been utilized increasingly for this end due to their excellent pattern recognition capability. In this study, damage detection of bridge structures using neural networks technique based on the modal properties is presented, which can effectively consider the modeling uncertainty in the analysis model from which the training patterns are to be generated. The differences or the ratios of the mode shape components between before and after damage are used as the input to the neural networks in this method, since they are found to be less sensitive to the modeling errors than the mode shapes themselves. Two numerical example analyses on a simple beam and a multi-girder bridge are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed method.

  • The transient analysis for the output voltage of a piezoresistive microaccelerometer takes a relatively high computation time because at least two iterations are required to calculate the piezoresistive-structural coupled response at each time step. In this study, the high computational cost for calculating the transient output voltage is considerably reduced by an approach integrating the mode superposition method and the least square method. In the approach, data on static displacement and output voltage calculated by piezoresistive-structural coupled simulation for three acceleration inputs are used to develop a quadratic regression model, relating the output voltage to the displacement at a certain observation point. The transient output voltage is then approximated by a regression model using the displacement response cheaply calculated by the mode superposition method. A high-impact microaccelerometer subject to several types of acceleration inputs such as 100,000 G shock, sine, step, and square pulses are adopted as a numerical example to represent the efficiency and accuracy of the suggested approach.
