The animated pedagogical agent has been implemented to promote learning outcomes and motivation in multimedia learning. It has been claimed that one of the advantages of using pedagogical agent is persona effect - the personalization or social presence of pedagogical agent can enhance learning engagement and motivation. However, prior research is inconclusive as to whether and how the features of the pedagogical agent have effects on the persona effect. This study investigated whether the similarity between a pedagogical agent and the real instructor in terms of the voice and outlook would improve students' perception of the agent's persona. The study also examined the effect by the size of pedagogical agent on the persona perception. Two experiments were conducted with a total of 115 college students. Experiment 1 indicated a significant main effect of voice on the persona perception. Experiment 2 was conducted to examine whether the size of pedagogical agent would affect the voice effect on the persona perception. The results showed that the instructor-like voice yielded higher persona perception regardless of the pedagogical agent's size. Overall, the study findings indicated that the similarity in voice positively fostered the agent's persona.
In this paper, we consider a two-agent single-machine scheduling problem with exponential job-dependent position-based learning effects. The objective is to minimize the total weighted completion time of one agent with the restriction that the makespan of the other agent cannot exceed an upper bound. First, we propose a branch-and-bound algorithm by developing some dominance /feasibility properties and a lower bound to find an optimal solution. Second, we design an efficient simulated annealing (SA) algorithm to search a near optimal solution by considering six different SAs to generate initial solutions. We show the performance superiority of the suggested SA using a numerical experiment. Specifically, we verify that there is no significant difference in the performance of %errors between different considered SAs using the paired t-test. Furthermore, we testify that random generation method is better than the others for agent A, whereas the initial solution method for agent B did not affect the performance of %errors.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two types of coloring agents and the number of application on the color of zirconia. Materials and methods: Monolithic zirconia specimens ($15.7mm{\times}15.7mm{\times}2.0mm$) (n = 33) was prepared and divided into 11 groups. Each experimental group was coded as a1-a5, w1-w5 according to the type of coloring agent and number of application. Specimens with no coloring agent applied were set as control group. The color difference of specimen was measured by using double-beam spectrophotometer, and calculated color difference (${{\Delta}E^*}_{ab}$), translucency parameter (TP). All data was analyzed with two-way ANOVA, multiple comparison $Sch{\acute{e}}ffe$ test, Pearson correlation and linear regression analysis. Results: As the number of application increased, values of $CIE\;L^*$ was decreased, but values of $CIE\;b^*$ was increased in both coloring agents. However, there was no significant difference on values of translucency parameter. The color difference range of each group was ${0.87{\Delta}E^*}_{ab}$ to ${9.43{\Delta}E^*}_{ab}$. Conclusion: In this study, type of coloring agent and the number of application did not affect the color difference of zirconia.
Conversational agent is a system that provides users with proper information and maintains the context of dialogue on the natural language. Analyzing and modeling process of user's query is essential to make it more realistic, for which Bayesian network is a promising technique. When experts design the network for a domain, the network is usually very complicated and is hard to be understood. The separation of variables in the domain reduces the size of networks and makes it easy to design the conversational agent. Composing Bayesian network as two stages, we aim to design conversational agent easily and analyze user's query in detail. Also, previous information of dialogue makes it possible to maintain the context of conversation. Actually implementing it for a guide of web pages, we can confirm the usefulness of the proposed architecture for conversational agent.

In this paper, a robot is considered as an agent, a structure of robot is presented which consisted by multi-subagents and they have diverse capacity such as perception, intelligence, action etc., required for robot. Also, subagents are consisted by micro-agent($\mu$agent) charged for elementary action required. The structure of robot control have two sub-agents, the one is behavior based reactive controller and action selection sub agent, and action selection sub-agent select a action based on the high label action and high performance, and which have a learning mechanism based on the reinforcement learning. For presented robot structure, it is easy to give intelligence to each element of action and a new approach of multi robot control. Presented robot is simulated for two goals: chaotic exploration and obstacle avoidance, and fabricated by using 8bit microcontroller, and experimented.
In the search for new naturally occurring angiogenic inhibitory we found that culture broths from two unidentified fungal strains exerted potent inhibitory activities on capillary-like tube formation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) in vitro. Two active compounds were isolated by bioassay-guided separation and their structures were identified as gliotoxin (1) and its derivative methylthiogliotoxin (2) by spectroscopic analyses. These compounds significantly inhibited the migration of HUVEC assessed by in vitro wounding migration assay and exhibited at least 10 times more potent inhibition of proliferation of HUVECs as compared with that of cancer cell lines such as HeLa, MCF-7, and KB 3-1 cells. Especially, gliotoxin having disulfide group exerted more potent activities than methylthiogliotoxin, suggesting that gliotoxin could be a useful compound for further study as an anti-angiogenic agent.

Two species of antimicrobial agent producing bacteria and one sensitive strain were isolated from soil. Those were identified as B. subtilis, B. licheniformis, and Curtobacterium sp. by morphological, biochemical, physiological and chemotaxonomic characteristics. These were designated as B. subtilis cx1, B. licheniformis cy2 and Curtobacterium sp. cf3, respectively. Antimicrobial agent produced by B. subtilis cx1 showed high antibacterial activity against gram positive bacteria including of B. subtilis, Curtobacterium sp., L. mesenteroids, Staphy. aureus, S. faecalis and even gram negative bacteria, P. aeruginosa. Antimicrobial agent from B. licheniformis cy2 showed slightly lower antimi crobial activity than that from B. subtilis cx1. These two strains showed maximum production of antimicrobial agents at 30oC for 9~21hr cultivation. Curtobacterium sp. cf3 showed more sensitive activity than a sensitive strain of B. subtilis ATCC 6633 which was same genus or species with the B. subtilis cx1 and B. subtilis cy2, when the antimicrobial agent producing strains, B. subtilis cx1 and B. subtilis cy2, were directly applied onto these sensitive lawns.
In this paper, we analyzed the known agent tracking models and proposed a new agent tracking model based on the distributed event service that always assures reliable tracking. Also we experimented the Performance of the event servers on the agent monitoring system that implements the distributed event service and showed their performance to decrement gracefully. The proposed tracking model doesn't make only several clients trace a mobile agent which moves among agent servers autonomously, but also supports two types of agent tracking agent location tracking that notifies agent location to the clients and path establishment that maintains reliable connection between agent servers for message delivery.
In this paper, we propose a strategy to improve fault-tolerance and scalability of replicated services in mobile agent systems by applying an appropriate passive replication protocol for each replicated service according to whether the service is deterministic or non-deterministic. For this purpose, two passive replication protocols, PRPNS and PRPDS, are designed for non-deterministic and deterministic services respectively. They both allow visiting mobile agents to be forwarded to and execute their tasks on any node performing a service agent, not necessarily the primary agent. Especially, in the protocol PRPDS, after a backup service agent has received each mobile agent request and obtained its delivery sequence number from the primary service agent, the backup is responsible for processing the request and coordinating with the other replica service agents. Therefore, our strategy using the two proposed protocols can promise high scalability of replicated services a large number of mobile agents attempt to access in mobile agent systems. Our simulation results show that the proposed strategy performs much better than the one using only the traditional passive replication protocol.
In this paper, we implemented the FIPA-OS framework bundle and service agent bundle over the OSGi service platform in home-sewer platform. The FIPA-OS is the first open source implementation of the FIPA standards and is a component-based toolkit implemented in Java. The FIPA-OS bundle is composed of two bundles. One is the communication bundle such as RMI, IIOP, HTTP and ACC. Another is the agent loader bundle. Experiments are conducted on the service agent communication and loading by the agent loader bundle, and the proposed bundles are successfully installed, stopped, and uninstalled over the OSGi service platform.
