Study on the Difference of the Maneuvering Characteristics of a VLCC in Standstill from those of her in Running

  • The objective of this paper is to make clear the difference of maneuvering characteristics of a VLCC in standstill from those of her in running. The authors made mathematic models to calculate maneuvering motions of a VLCC in standstill using various ahead engine with full rudder angle and calculated their motions in each case and compared the calculated values with those of the same vessel running in sea trial tests. The difference of motions between them is great. For example, a VLCC in standstill can achieve a great alteration of heading over 90 degrees within the distance of 0.2L advance while she advances 3.0L for 90 degrees turning in full running sea trial turning test. Therefore whenever a VLCC in standstill meets a vessel approaching in collision course situation in near distance, it is better and recommendable that she should use her ahead engine with full rudder to avoid collision. So "maneuvering trial tests in standstill conditions" should be added to the content of sea trial tests when a newly built VLCC commence to take sea trials, that has not been included until now.

고령 운전자 도심부 비 직각 교차로 운전행태 분석 (Analysis of Elderly Driving Performance at Urban Skewed Intersection using Driving Simulator)

  • In this study, the driving performances of elderly who's age is over 65 were evaluated. The driving simulation was conducted using a compact driving simulation (CDS) and the simulation scenarios were developed from actual roads by replicating geometry of skewed intersection and traffic control devices located in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, Korea. 27 elderly drivers and 10 non-elderly drivers were recruited and participated on the virtual turning right and going straight driving experiment of CDS. Virtual driving data of driving time, speed, distance, acceleration and deceleration speeds, brake power, and steering wheel rotation angle were recorded and analyzed. Generally, elderly driver took more times to pass through the skewed intersection road and showed lower approaching speed as much as 40% and 25% in case of turning right and going straight scenarios respectively. The speed deviation at skewed intersection road between elderly and non-elderly driver is expected to cause frequent lane changes and overtaking.

  • In this study, the correlation analysis between total system error and environmental factor variables was performed to confirm the effect on the performance of the integrated navigation system by various environmental factors. To collect flight data of hybrid vertical take-off and landing UAVs, scenarios including various turning sections and straight sections such as left turn, right turn, turning rate, and path change angle were selected, and environmental data of wind direction, wind speed, temperature, air pressure, and humidity were collected in real time through weather station. As a result of the correlation analysis between the collected flight data and environmental data, it was concluded that the performance of the integrated navigation system by environmental factors within the collected data was not significant affected and was robust.

Machinability investigation and sustainability assessment in FDHT with coated ceramic tool

  • The paper addresses contribution to the modeling and optimization of major machinability parameters (cutting force, surface roughness, and tool wear) in finish dry hard turning (FDHT) for machinability evaluation of hardened AISI grade die steel D3 with PVD-TiN coated (Al2O3-TiCN) mixed ceramic tool insert. The turning trials are performed based on Taguchi's L18 orthogonal array design of experiments for the development of regression model as well as adequate model prediction by considering tool approach angle, nose radius, cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut as major machining parameters. The models or correlations are developed by employing multiple regression analysis (MRA). In addition, statistical technique (response surface methodology) followed by computational approaches (genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization) have been employed for multiple response optimization. Thereafter, the effectiveness of proposed three (RSM, GA, PSO) optimization techniques are evaluated by confirmation test and subsequently the best optimization results have been used for estimation of energy consumption which includes savings of carbon footprint towards green machining and for tool life estimation followed by cost analysis to justify the economic feasibility of PVD-TiN coated Al2O3+TiCN mixed ceramic tool in FDHT operation. Finally, estimation of energy savings, economic analysis, and sustainability assessment are performed by employing carbon footprint analysis, Gilbert approach, and Pugh matrix, respectively. Novelty aspects, the present work: (i) contributes to practical industrial application of finish hard turning for the shaft and die makers to select the optimum cutting conditions in a range of hardness of 45-60 HRC, (ii) demonstrates the replacement of expensive, time-consuming conventional cylindrical grinding process and proposes the alternative of costlier CBN tool by utilizing ceramic tool in hard turning processes considering technological, economical and ecological aspects, which are helpful and efficient from industrial point of view, (iii) provides environment friendliness, cleaner production for machining of hardened steels, (iv) helps to improve the desirable machinability characteristics, and (v) serves as a knowledge for the development of a common language for sustainable manufacturing in both research field and industrial practice.

  • 본 기술개발의 목적은 선박제조에 적용되는 태양광 발전시스템 및 풍력 Sail 돛 제어장치 설비를 이용하여 친환경 레져보트인 '풍력 Sail 돛 제어장치를 이용한 태양광 레져보트' 시제품을 제작 및 개발하는데 주안점이 있으며, 이 과정에서 제작된 시제품에 대한 성능평가를 수행하여 제반 평가항목에 대한 정량적 수치 및 개발 목표치를 확보하고자 함에 있다. 특히, 평가항목 중 중요 항목에 해당되는 Sail Up/Down System 및 Mast Turning System과 관련하여 최적의 풍향 및 풍속을 적용할 수 있는 돛 제어장치의 특성(시간, 각도 등)을 평가하는데 신중한 검토를 하였으며, 기타 평가항목 중 주요 항목에 해당하는 풍향 감지 정도(%), 순간 충전 최대 전력(W) 및 최대 운항 시간(hr) 등에 대해서도 최적의 정량적 수치를 획득하는데 그 중요성을 두었다.

AIS에 의한 선박거동의 실시간 모니터링 (Real-time monitoring of ship's dynamic behavior characteristics by AIS)

  • This paper describes on the real-time tracking of ship's dynamic behavior by AIS information in the coastal waters. The AIS data was received at a land station by using the antenna of AIS receiver mounted on the rooftop of the laboratory, Pukyong National University (PKNU), Busan, Korea, and stored as a NMEA format of serial output sentence of VDM(VHF Data-Link Message) and displayed on the ENC(Electronic Navigational Chart) of a PC-based ECDIS. In this study, the AIS receiver was mainly used to obtain the dynamic information that is necessary to evaluate and track the movement situation of training ship "KAYA" of PKNU in the coastal waters. The change of position with time for the ship turning under the rudder angle of port $30^{\circ}$ was correctly tracked with the turning circle of 940 m in diameter on the ENC of a PC-based ECDIS. Then, the dynamic information of the AIS system was updated every 6.29 seconds under the turning situation for the speed of 10.9 knots and every 21.65 seconds under the situation running at the speed of 11.05 knots on the straight line route of $155^{\circ}$, respectively. In case of AIS target tracking in the inshore zone behind large topographical obstructions, such as mountain and apartment buildings, the update rate of dynamic information was irregularly changed by the existence of land obstacles. However, the position tracking by AIS information under the situation existing no sea obstructions was achieved in real or near real-time and the instant presentation of course alternations for the ship was correctly monitored by using a PC-based ECDIS. From these results, we concluded that the PC-based ECDIS technology and methodology combined with the AIS information can be easily extended and applied to the surveillance and management for the fishing operation of fishing vessels in the coastal zone and in the EEZ fishing grounds.

실선시운전시험을 통한 예부선의 조종 특성 연구 (Maneuvering Characteristics of Tug-Barge from the Results of Sea Trial Test)

  • 예선이 부선을 선미예인하고 있는 상황에서의 예부선 조종특성을 확인하기 위하여, 예선 단독 실선시운전과 예부선 통합 실선시운전 시험을 수행하였다. 속력시험, 가감속시험, 10도 선회시험, 20도 선회시험, 10도 지그재그시험, 20도 지그재그시험을 통하여 다양한 상황에서의 예선과 부선의 운항 특성을 확인하였다. 그 결과, 부선이 선미예인되는 경우, 예선의 전술선회직경은 예선 단독운항일 때보다 증가하며, 선수동요각 변화율이 낮음을 확인하였고, 침로 변경을 함에 있어 부선의 선수동요각 변화가 늦고, 오버슈트각이 큰 것을 확인하였다. 또한 선회나 침로 변경 시, 부선의 선회궤적이 예선의 선회궤적 안쪽에도 존재할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 따라서 부선을 선미예인하는 운항자는, 선회 및 침로변경 시 예부선의 선회궤적, 예부선의 선수동요각 변화시간 및 오버슈트각이 증가하는 것을 충분히 인지하고 운항해야 할 것으로 판단된다.

곡관부를 가지는 내부 냉각유로에서 회전수 변화에 따른 열전달 및 유동 특성 ( I ) - 엇갈린 요철배열 덕트 - (Effects of Rotation Speed on Heat Transfer and Flow in a Coolant Passage with Turning Region ( I ) - Cross Ribbed Duct -)

  • The present study investigates heat/mass transfer and flow characteristics in a ribbed rotating passage with turning region. The duct has an aspect ratio (W/H) of 0.5 and a hydraulic diameter ($D_h$) of 26.67 mm. Rib turbulators are attached in the cross arrangement on the leading and trailing surfaces of the passage. The ribs have a rectangular cross section of $2\;mm\;(e){\times}\;mm\;(w)$ and an attack angle of $70^{\circ}$. The pitch-to-rib height ratio (p/e) is 7.5, and the rib height-to-hydraulic diameter ratio ($e/D_h$) is 0.075. The rotation number ranges from 0.0 to 0.20 while the Reynolds number is constant at 10,000. To verify the heat/mass transfer augmentation, internal flow structures are calculated for the same conditions using a commercial code FLUENT 6.1. The heat transfer data of the smooth duct for various Ro numbers agree well with not only the McAdams correlation but also the previous studies. The cross-rib turbulators significantly enhance heat/mass transfer in the passage by disturbing the main flow near the surfaces and generating one asymmetric cell of secondary flow skewing along the ribs. Because the secondary flow is induced in the first-pass and turning region, heat/mass transfer discrepancy is observed in the second-pass even for the stationary case. When the passage rotates, heat/mass transfer and flow phenomena change. Especially, the effect of rotation is more dominant than the effect of the ribs at the higher rotation number in the upstream of the second-pass.

농업용 무한궤도형 자율주행 플랫폼의 경로 추종 및 추종 성능 향상을 위한 가변형 전방 주시거리 알고리즘 개발 (Development of Path Tracking Algorithm and Variable Look Ahead Distance Algorithm to Improve the Path-Following Performance of Autonomous Tracked Platform for Agriculture)

  • With the advent of the 4th industrial revolution, autonomous driving technology is being commercialized in various industries. However, research on autonomous driving so far has focused on platforms with wheel-type platform. Research on a tracked platform is at a relatively inadequate step. Since the tracked platform has a different driving and steering method from the wheel-type platform, the existing research cannot be applied as it is. Therefore, a path-tracking algorithm suitable for a tracked platform is required. In this paper, we studied a path-tracking algorithm for a tracked platform based on a GPS sensor. The existing Pure Pursuit algorithm was applied in consideration of the characteristics of the tracked platform. And to compensate for "Cutting Corner", which is a disadvantage of the existing Pure Pursuit algorithm, an algorithm that changes the LAD according to the curvature of the path was developed. In the existing pure pursuit algorithm that used a tracked platform to drive a path including a right-angle turn, the RMS path error in the straight section was 0.1034 m and the RMS error in the turning section was measured to be 0.2787 m. On the other hand, in the variable LAD algorithm, the RMS path error in the straight section was 0.0987 m, and the RMS path error in the turning section was measured to be 0.1396 m. In the turning section, the RMS path error was reduced by 48.8971%. The validity of the algorithm was verified by measuring the path error by tracking the path using a tracked robot platform.

  • 본 연구에서는 공구(bite)의 형상에서 상면경사각을 변화시켜 이에 따른 절삭 저항의 3분력을 측정하여 그 값에 대한 합력과 비절삭저항 그리고 거칠기 등 3값을 normalization 과정으로 energy method에 의하여 이들 SM20C 및 SM45C 재료를 구분하 여 각각의 절삭저항과 그 특성을 규명하고져 하였으며 아울러 재료별 최적조건을 찾고 자 한다.
