Normal growth and development is of prime concern during childhood. The treatment of children with growth hormone deficiency has been revolutionized by growth hormone therapy. An improved height outcome with a final height within the target height range has been achieved. However, close follow-up with regular clinical and laboratory monitoring is essential for achieving the desirable height outcome. The theoretical unlimited supply of growth hormone has led to its wide spread use in a variety of disorders other than a growth hormone deficiency. Initially used in children with Turner syndrome, growth hormone is now used to treat chronic renal failure, an idiopathic short stature and intrauterine growth restrictions in addition to a wide array of newly emerging indications. This review summarizes the basics for a proper growth assessment, the differentiation of normal and abnormal growth causes of a short stature, and the indications for growth hormone treatment.

A case of fine needle aspiration cytology of an osteoclastic giant cell tumor of pancreas, which is an uncommon variant of ductal adenocarcinoma, is described. Aspirated tumor cells were characterized by three populations: (1) bland osteoclast like giant cells with multiple small, round nuclei with distinct nucleoli, and abundant cytoplasm, (2) Individually scattered or loosely clustered medium sized mononuclear tumor cells, having fine chromatin, smooth nuclear membrane, often prominent nucleoli, and high N/C ratio, (3) bland or atypical spindle shaped cells. Osteoid like lacy material was also seen on cell block section. The immunohistochemical studies using paraffin embedded cell block section showed positivities for vimentin and lysozyme in both giant and mononuclear turner cells. However, they were negative for cytokeratin, epithelial membrane antigen, S-100 protein, carcinoembryonic antigen, and p53.

Noonan syndrome is characterized by typical facies, congenital heart defect, and some clinical features similar to Turner syndrome, but with normal chromosomes. The most commonly associated cardiac defects are pulmonary valvular stenosis and strial septal defect. We experienced a case of Nonan syndrome associated with pulmonay valve stenosis with double-chambered right ventricle and atrial septal defect and cryptorchidism. Pulmonary valvotomy was done through transannular incision. Hypertrophied muscle bundles were excised. Atrial septal defect was closed directly. RVOT was reconstructed with pericardial transannular patch. Orchiopexy was performed simultaneously without any problem.

It is the purpose of this article to present a brief and systematical behavioral methods in recent developed behavioral pharmacology. Specifically, the present review has been organized around three major topics reflecting both current research emphasis in behavioral pharmacology and methodological applications to the study of psychopharmacological actions of crude drug or herb medicine. The first major topic focuses upon the appropriate experimental design especially in the study of psychopharmacology. A large number of factors should be controlled to have a bearing on design of studies reflecting to psychological effects of drugs. The second section presents several recent methodological developments in behavioral pharmacology involving Turner's screening methods and several types of conditioning techniques. The last section calls specific attention to the observation of behavioral development processes in relation to the activity of pharmacological agents and emphasizes critical period of drug treatment.

In this paper, a two-dimensional finite volume unstructured mesh method (FVUM) based on a triangular background interpolation mesh is developed for analysing the evolution of the saltwater intrusion into single and multiple coastal aquifer systems. The model formulation consists of a ground-water flow equation and a salt transport equation. These coupled and non-linear partial differential equations are transformed by FVUM into a system of differential/algebraic equations, which is solved using backward differentiation formulas of order one through five. Simulation results are compared with previously published solutions where good agreement is observed.

Intraoperative Radiation therapy (IORT) is a cancer treatment modality in which resectable masses or organs are removed surgically and residual cancer calls are sterilized by irradiation with a single massive dose during while patient is still anesthetized. Because it is possible that the turner mass can be visualized directly at the time of surgical exploration, tumor volume can be determined more precisely and at the same tin e sensitive adjacent structures can be pulled aside from the irradiation. With these theoretical advantages as compare to conventional external irradiation, IORT can improve the therapeutic ratio of tumor control to normal tissue injury. Yonsei cancer center initiated a pilot study of multidisciplinary IORT program in february of 1986 for the fist attempt in Korea. IORT Was performed in 7 patients with stomach cancer by using existing NELAC-1018 Linear Accelerator treatment room as a surgical suite. IOTR team included department of surgery, Department of Anethesiology, Department of Clinical pathology, operating room nursing personal and Department of radiation oncology.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the mythic qualities of television culture. The basic assumption for the study is that to enrich our understanding of television culture in terms of its mythic qualities will be helpful to those who are interested in the production and the studies of television contents in developing their creative ideas. The study discusses the theoretical conceptions of myth and ritual and their applicability to the study of television culture from the multi-disciplinary perspective. So, it deals with significant theoretical works by a number of great contemporary social or cultural thinkers including Carey, Cassirer, Durkheim, van Gennep, Turner, and Eliade. After all, the result of the study identifies three key features of mythic qualities of television culture including 'commonsensicalness,' 'emotionalness,' and 'mediatorialness.'

In this paper, delay performances are evaluated and compared for three dual-plane switch architectures; dual input queue/dual switching plane (DQDP The terms of DQDP, DQDP-PS and DQDP-GQ were not used in [Turner88], [Lee96] and [Son97]. All these tern are designated in this letter for convenience.) switch, DQDP with plane selector (DQDP-PS) switch and DQDP based on output group queueing (DQDP-OGQ) switch. We show that under random traffic these switches give almost identical delay performances to that of the output queueing switch but under bursty traffic only the DQDP-PS and the DQDP-OGQ switches ran do.

본 연구에서 미디어의 생산과 소비가 어떻게 사람들을 리미널한 형태로 사람들을 끌어들이는지 살펴보았다. 즉 미디어 생산의 주체 혹은 인기 있는 프로그램의 미디어 소비는 급격한 의식의 이탈을 만들어낸다. 2011년에 시작한 프로그램, '나는 가수다' 이후 지상파, 종합편성, 케이블채널에 음악프로그램, 특히 대중가요 중심의 노래 프로그램들이 대거 만들어졌다. 현재 큰 인기를 끌고 있는 '판타스틱 듀오'와 '나는 가수다' 속에 들어있는 제의적 속성인 리미널러티현상을 반 게넵(Arnold van Gennep)의 '통과의례'에 나타나는 전이 단계와 빅터 터너(Victor Turner)의 이론을 토대로 분석하였다. '전이'의 단계에 제의의 주체들은 사회적인 지위나 문화적인 상태의 속성들을 거의 가지고 있지 않은 일종의 사회적인 중간상태(social limbo)를 통과하게 된다. 미디어 이벤트로서의 리미널러티, 시청자, 가수와 도전자, 청중평가단의 일체감으로 일어나는 인지, 정서적 느낌과 그로 인한 코뮤니타스, 반구조((anti-structure) 상태를 분석하였다. 그리고 그 이후에 오는 위로와 위안 그리고 공감으로 이어지는 사회문화적 현상을 살펴보았다.

Meteorological Joint Frequency Function required indispensably in long-term air quality prediction models were discussed for practical application in Korea. The algorithm, proposed by Turner(l964), is processed with daily solar insolation and cloudiness and height basically using Pasquill's atmospheric stability classification method. In spite of its necessity and applicability, the computer program, called STAR(STability ARray), had some significant difficulties caused from the difference in meteorological data format between that of original U.S. version and Korean's. To cope with the problems, revised STAR program for Korean users were composed of followings; applicability in any site of Korea with regard to local solar angle modification; feasibility with both of data which observed by two classes of weather service centers; and examination on output format associated with prediction models which should be used.
