  • In this paper, we propose a boost DC-DC converter using a modification of the passive auxiliary resonant snubber circuit with a DC-DC converter in a typical active auxiliary resonant snubber-bridge inverter. The proposed boost DC-DC converter is small compared to the DC-DC converter according to the soft-switching scheme that requires a general auxiliary switch by realizing the soft switching operation as a DC-DC converter which does not require an auxiliary switch. It is light-weight, switch the turn-on and turn-off switching loss at the time of the superposition of the voltage and current is extremely small, so small. And the reduction of the surge voltage and current of the switch. In addition, the proposed boost DC-DC converter has a high efficiency over a wide load characteristics change area than conventional hard switching PWM boost converter using an RC snubber loss.

  • This paper proposes a new switching algorithm for an active clamp snubber to improve the efficiency of a module integrated converter system. This system uses an active clamp method for the snubber circuit for the efficiency and reliability of the system. However, the active clamp snubber circuit has the disadvantage that system efficiency is decreased by switch operating time because of heat loss in resonance between the snubber capacitor and leakage inductance. To address this, this paper proposes a new switching algorithm. The proposed algorithm is a technique to reduce power consumption by reducing the resonance of the snubber switch operation time. Also, the snubber switch is operated at zero voltage switching by turning on the snubber switch before main switch turn-off. Simulation and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed new active clamp control algorithm.

  • The flyback converter is one of the most attractive isolated converters in small power applications because of its simple structure. However, it suffers from high device stress, large transformer size, and high voltage stress across its switch and diode. To solve these problems a new cost-effective PWM single-switch isolated converter is proposed. The proposed converter has no output filter inductor, reduced voltage stress on the secondary devices, and reduced transformer size. Moreover, the switch turn-off loss is reduced and no dissipative snubber across the secondary diode is required. Therefore, it features a simple structure, a low cost, and high efficiency. The operational principle and characteristics of the proposed converter are presented and compared with the flyback converter and then verified experimentally.

  • In this paper, the switching characteristics of the active clamp type flyback converter, which is deemed suitable for the miniaturization of the external power supply for home appliance, were analyzed and the process of reducing the switching loss was explained. The active clamp type flyback converter operating in the DCM has confirmed that the surge voltage of the main switch does not occur and the turn-off / on loss of the switch do not occur in principle. Also, in the case of the switch for synchronous rectifier, it was showed that the switch current showed half-wave rectified sinusoidal characteristic, and the switching loss was reduced. The switching characteristics of the experimental results gathered from 120 W class prototype were compared with the theoretical waveform in the steady-state and it was confirmed that the power conversion efficiency of the active clamp type flyback converter was maintained high due to the reduction of the switching loss.

  • Continuous conduction mode (CCM) boost converters are commonly used in home appliances and various industries because of their simple topology and low input current ripples. However, these converters suffer from several disadvantages, such as hard switching of the active switch and reverse recovery problems of the output diode. These disadvantages increase voltage stresses across the switch and output diode and thus contribute to switching losses and electromagnetic interference. A new topology is presented in this work to improve the switching characteristics of CCM boost converters. Zero-current turn-on and zero-voltage turn-off are achieved for the active switches. The reverse-recovery current is reduced by soft turning-off the output diode. In addition, an input current sensorless control is applied to the proposed topology by pre-calculating the duty cycles of the active switches. Power factor correction is thus achieved with less effort than that required in the traditional method. Simulation and experimental results verify the soft-switching characteristics of the proposed topology and the effectiveness of the proposed input current sensorless control.

  • For decrease the harmonic current components of the power source, a first method is insert the choke coil that used the choke input type rectifier, the booster chopper circuit and buck chopper circuit. And the several method are studying like as the PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) converter and the active filter type which is used the high frequency switching and the sinusoidal wave formed input current. In this type, there are many problem as a low efficiency, increased the noise, the high leakage current and cost up by the high frequency switching. For improve this problems, the partial resonan method is used on the booster inducter and lossles snubber condenser. This method decreased the distortion factor has lower harmonic components than the hard switching and there is no switching loss by the ZCS(Zero Current Switching) at switch turn-on and the ZVS(Zero Voltage Swithcing) at switch turn-off

  • In this study, a novel single phase soft switched power factor correction (PFC) converter is developed with active snubber cell. The active snubber cell provides boost switch both to turn on with zero voltage transition (ZVT) and to turn off with zero current transition (ZCT). As the switching losses in the proposed converter are too low, L and C size can be reduced by increasing the operating frequency. Also, all the semiconductor devices operate with soft switching. There is no additional voltage stress in the boost switch and diode. The proposed converter has a simple structure, low cost and ease of control as well. It has a simple control loop to achieve near unity power factor with the aid of the UC3854. In this study, detailed steady state analysis of the proposed converter is presented and this theoretical analysis is verified by a prototype of 100 kHz and 500 W converter. The measured power factor and efficiency are 0.99 and 97.9% at full load.

  • This paper presents a new circuit topology of DC busline switch and snubbing capacitor-assisted full-bridge soft-switching PWM inverter type DC-DC power converter with a high frequency link for low voltage large current applications as DC feeding systems, telecommunication power plants, automotive DC bus converters, plasma generator, electro plating plants, fuel cell interfaced power conditioner and arc welding power supplies. The proposed power converter circuit is based upon a voltage source-fed H type full-bridge high frequency PWM inverter with a high frequency transformer link. The conventional type high frequency inverter circuit is modified by adding a single power semiconductor switching device in series with DC rail and snubbing lossless capacitor in parallel with the inverter bridge legs. All the active power switches in the full-bridge inverter arms and DC busline can achieve ZVS/ZVT turn-off and ZCS turn-on commutation operation. Therefore, the total switching losses at turn-off and turn-on switching transitions of these power semiconductor devices can be reduced even in the high switching frequency bands ranging from 20 kHz to 100 kHz. The switching frequency of this DC-DC power converter using IGBT power modules is selected to be 60 kHz. It is proved experimentally by the power loss analysis that the more the switching frequency increases, the more the proposed DC-DC converter can achieve high performance, lighter in weight, lower power losses and miniaturization in size as compared to the conventional hard switching one. The principle of operation, operation modes, practical and inherent effectiveness of this novel DC-DC power converter topology is proved for a low voltage and large current DC-DC power supplies of arc welder applications in industry.

  • This study proposes a novel zero voltage transition (ZVT) pulse width modulation (PWM) DC-DC interleaved boost converter with an active snubber cell. All the semiconductor devices in the converter turn on and off with soft switching to reduce the switching power losses and improve the overall efficiency. Through the interleaved approach, the current stresses of the main devices and the ripple of the output voltage and input current are reduced. The main switches turn on with ZVT and turn off with zero voltage switching (ZVS). The auxiliary switch turns on with zero current switching (ZCS) and turns off with ZVS. In addition, the snubber cell does not create additional current or voltage stress on the main switches and main diodes. The proposed converter can smoothly achieve soft switching characteristics even under light load conditions. The theoretical analysis and operating stages of the proposed converter are made for the D > 50% and D < 50% modes. Finally, a prototype of the proposed converter is implemented, and the experimental results are given in detail for 500 W and 50 kHz. The overall efficiency of the proposed converter reached 95.5% at nominal output power.
