Pole arcs, turn-on angle, and turn-off angle are major design factors, which affects Switched Reluctance Motor's torque performance. If these design factors are considered independently, the enhancement of SRM performance is restricted. Therefore, we need to consider pole arcs, turn-on angle and turn-off angle at the same time, when we design SR. In this paper, we analyze how these factors affect to torque ripple and average torque by using dynamic Finite Element Method(FEM) with derive circuit and present the good design results according to the various speeds. Especially, we formulate turn-on and turn-off angle from a voltage equation and present effective design range.

In general, for the condition monitoring of a power transformer using the UHF PD measuring technique, detection of any partial discharge, identifying the defect in the transformer and locating the insulation defect are necessary. In this paper one of the most frequent detects which can result in turn to turn fault in power transformer was examined for identifying the defect. In order to model the defect, as a discharge source, a partial discharge cell was used for experimental activity. Magnitude of electromagnetic wave signals and corresponding amount of apparent discharge were measured simultaneously against phase of applied voltage to the discharge cell. Frequency range and phase resolved partial discharge signals were measured and analyzed. The results will be contributed to build the defect database of power transformer and to decrease the occurrence of transformer faults.

In this paper, the LLC resonant converter battery charger, using adaptive turn ratio scheme, is proposed to achieve high efficiency and wide range output voltage. The LLC converter high frequency transformer has an adaptively changed turn ratio by the auxiliary control circuitry. As a result, the optimal converter design with a large magnetizing inductance is easily achieved to minimize the conduction and the turn-off losses while providing widely regulated voltage gain capability to properly charge the Li-ion battery. The proposed converter operational principle and the optimal design considerations are illustrated in detail. Finally, several simulation results verify the proposed LLC resonant converter's effectiveness.

Through traffic utilization of left turn lane constitutes an unique traffic operation at an intersection. Consequently, due to the provision as of current practice, conventional methods which estimate traffic volume and intersection capacity by lane would not be valid for design of signal timings. Through traffic utilization factor of left turn lane is affected by left turn volume and signal timings. The primary purpose of this study is to compare the results from leading left turn green phasing scheme with those from previously studied lagging left turn green phasing scheme in terms of utilization factor and intersection capacity by various left turn volume and signal timings, and thereby optimum signal timing to maximize the capacity at given left turn volume. Leading left turn green phasing increases capacity by 10~15 % as compared with that for current lagging left turn green phasing scheme. The range of optimum cycle length for left turn volume about 150 vph is 180~200 second. This cycle length range and left turn interval are longer than those for the lagging left turn green phasing scheme.

With substitution with a delicate turn-tree instead of a long permanent cross-tree that is usally located on the derrick post, it is possible to get a large working range of the slewing angle 240 degree and also to decrease the slewing time of the derrick boom, comparing to the exisiting cargo gear system which has the same capacity of slewing winch.

The proposed converter has easy device selection for high step-up and high power applications since boost half bridge and voltage doubler cells are connected, respectively, in parallel and series in order to increase output power and voltage. Especially, optimized design of high frequency transformers is possible owing to reduced turn ratio and eliminated dc offset, and distributed power through three cores is beneficial to low profile and thermal distribution. The proposed converter does not necessitate start-up circuit and additional clamp circuit due to the use of whole duty range between 0 and 1 and is suitable for applications with wide input voltage range. Also, high efficiency can be achieved since ZVS turn on of switches are achieved in wide duty cycle range and ZCS turn on and off of diodes are achieved. The proposed converter was validated through 5 kW prototype.
No-insulation (NI) pancake magnets are fabricated using Rare earth-Barium-Copper Oxide (REBCO) coated conductor (CC) tapes, which enabled a very compact magnet in the aspects of high critical current density ($J_c$) and high mechanical strength by removing insulation and allowing thinner stabilizer. They have also advantages such as self-quench protection. Therefore, it does not need quench detection and protection that can be very challenging in a high critical temperature ($T_c$) superconducting magnet technology. Recently, it was reported that the NI REBCO CC magnets have some drawbacks of long charging time and high field ramp loss which will be a concern in the operation of cryocooled magnets. These issues are related to the turn-to-turn contact resistivity and can be released by managing it. This is also closely related to the activity of reducing the contact joint resistance in the case of CC joints for long length CC fabrication. Therefore, in this study, the turn-to-turn contact resistance ($R_c$) at the CC contact part of differently stabilized CC tapes was measured. The behaviors of $R_c$ at CC contact parts according to the applied contact pressure were investigated. The range of $R_c$ measured for CC tapes adopted will provide fundamental data for design and fabrication of the CC NI coils.
To address the problem of circulating current loss in the traditional zero-current switching (ZCS) full-bridge (FB) DC/DC converter, a ZCS FB DC/DC converter topology and modulation strategy is proposed in this paper. The strategy can achieve ZCS turn on and zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) turn off for the primary switches and realize ZVZCS turn on and zero-voltage switching (ZVS) turn off for the auxiliary switches. Moreover, its resonant circuit power is small. Compared with the traditional phase shift full-bridge converter, the new converter decreases circulating current loss and does not increase the current stress of the primary switches and the voltage stress of the rectifier diodes. The diodes turn off naturally when the current decreases to zero. Thus, neither reverse recovery current nor loss on diodes occurs. In this paper, we analyzed the operating principle, steady-state characteristics and soft-switching conditions and range of the converter in detail. A 740 V/1 kW, 100 kHz experimental prototype was established, verifying the effectiveness of the converter through experimental results.

The EMG amplitude estimator, which has been investigated as an indicator of muscle force, is of high relevance not only in biomechanical studies but also more and more in clinical applications. This paper presents a new approach to estimate surface EMG amplitude by using the mean spike and mean turn amplitude(MSA and MTA) variables. Surface EMG signals, a total of 198 signals, were recorded from biceps brachii muscle over the range of 20-80%MVC isometric contraction and performance of the MSA and MTA variables applied to amplitude estimation of the EMG signals were investigated. To examine the performance, a SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) was computed from each amplitude estimate. The results of the study indicate that MSA and MTA amplitude estimations with first order whitening filter and 300[ms]-350[ms] moving average window length are optimal and show better performance(mean SNR improvement of 6%-15%) than the most frequently used variables(ARV and RMS).
In this paper, A fuzzy logic based turn-off angle compensator for torque ripple reduction in a linear switched reluctance motor is proposed. The turn-off angle, as a complex function of motor speed and current, is automatically changed for a wide speed range to reduce torque ripple. Simulation results are presented that show ripple reduction when the him-off angle compensator is used.
