Lots of researches were gone already about grooving corrosion mechanism of ERW carbon steel pipe. But there is seldom study for water hammer happened by fluid and acceleration of corrosion rate by incresed flow velocity. Therefore, in this study carried out the analysis based on hydrodynamic and fracture mechanics. Analyzed stress that act on a pipe using ANSYS as a program, and also FLUENT and STAR-CD were used for flow phenomenon confirmation. As the result, fatigue failure is happened by water hammer and corrosion rate was increased because of turbulent flow.
To analyze the flow through open-channel constrictions using $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ turbulence mode, a numerical model is developed. The simulated results agree well with existing experimental data which attributes to the adequate input of turbulent eddy-viscosity by turbulence model. A stream function and velocity distributions enable the analysis of flow characteristics at the downstream of constriction. Turbulent eddy viscosities over channel are spatially varied with stream pattern. For the evaluation of rapidly varied flow, the eddy-viscosity input by turbulence model is required instead of the empirical effective viscosity to solve a shallow water equation.
An experiment on the enhancement of turbulent flow with ultrasonic forcing was carried out by using PIV measurement in a coaxial circular pipe which could offer characteristics of the turbulence flow plentifully through its jet. A large transparent acryl tank and a coaxial circular pipe nozzle were made for the above research. city water of $25^{\circ}C$ was selected as an experimental liquid and the front flow field of the coaxial circular pipe was divided vertically as 3 measuring regions to observe characteristics of flow phenomena. characteristics of fluid flow such as velocity vector distribution, kinetic energy, turbulent intensity and etc. were visualized, observed, examined and considered at 5 kinds of Re No. such as $Re=1{\times}10^3,\;2{\times}10^3,\;3{\times}10^3,\;5{\times}10^3,\;1{\times}10^4$. In result it was proved that ultrasonic vibration affected the enhancement of turbulent flow.
This paper presents the design concept, theoretical investigation, and fabrication of a six-degree of freedom (6-DOF) turbulent flow micro sensor utilizing the piezoresistive effect in silicon. Unlike other flow sensors, which typically measure just one component of wall shear stress, the proposed sensor can independently detect six components of force and moment on a test particle in a turbulent flow. By combining conventional and four-terminal piezoresistors in Si (111), and arranging them suitably on the sensing area, the total number of piezoresistors used in this sensing chip is only eighteen, much fewer than the forty eight piezoresistors of the prior art piezoresistive 6-DOF force sensor.

Heat transfer performance are studied for the turbulent flow of water in 3 smooth tube coils having ratios of coil to tube diameter of 16, 21 and 27, and a corrugated-coiled tube having a ratio of coil to tube diameter of 29, for Reynolds numbers from 8000 to 60000 and is also compared with the limited results available to data. The experiments are carried out for the fully developed turbulent flow of water in tube coils under the condition of uniform heat flux. This work is limited 0 tube coils of R/a between 10 and 30. The tube having a ratio of coil to tube diameter of 27 among the 3 smooth tube coils shows the best heat transfer performance. The performance of coiled tube best transfer performance. The performance of coiled tube with a similar curvature ratio is better for a corrugated-coiled tube(R/a=17) than for a smooth coiled tube(R/a=16). An empirical relation which correlates most of the data within $\pm$25% was also developed. Test result shows that the Nusselt number is found to be affected by a secondary flow due to curvature.

The resistance coefficient and heat transfer performance are studied for the turbulent water flow in a smooth coiled tube having variable curvature ratios and a corrugated-coiled tube having a ratio of coil to tube diameter of 22. Experiments are carried out for the fully developed turbulent flow of water in tube coils on the uniform wall temperature condition. This work is limited to tube coils of R/a between 22 and 60 and Reynolds numbers from 13000 to 53000. The tube having a ratio of coil to tube diameter of 27 among the 3 smooth tube coils shows the best heat transfer performance. A corrugated-coiled tube(R/a=60) shows more excellent performance than a smooth coiled tub (R/a=60) at a similar curvature ratio. The friction factor f is sensitive to changes in the velocity profile caused by a temperature gradient. Allowance was made for the pressure loss in the short inlet and outlet lengths and due to the presence of the thermocouple inlet and outlet as a result of separate experimental on a straight tube. It is to be expected that the allowance at the exit will be somewhat too low because of secondary flow effects carried over from the coil.
Thermal mixing by steam jets in a pool is dominantly influenced by a turbulent water jet generated by the condensing steam jets, and the proper prediction of this turbulent jet behavior is critical for the pool mixing analysis. A turbulent jet flow induced by a steam jet discharged through a vertical upward single hole into a subcooled water pool was subjected to computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. Based on the small-scale test data derived under a horizontal steam discharging condition, this analysis was performed to validate a CFD method of analysis previously developed for condensing jet-induced pool mixing phenomena. In previous validation work, the CFD results and the test data for a limited range of radial and axial directions were compared in terms of profiles of the turbulent jet velocity and temperature. Furthermore, the behavior of the turbulent jet induced by the steam jet through a horizontal single hole in a subcooled water pool failed to show the exact axisymmetric flow pattern with regards to an overall pool mixing, whereas the CFD analysis was done with an axisymmetric grid model. Therefore, another new small-scale test was conducted under a vertical upward steam discharging condition. The purpose of this test was to generate the velocity and temperature profiles of the turbulent jet by expanding the measurement ranges from the jet center to a location at about 5% of $U_m$ and 10 cm to 30 cm from the exit of the discharge nozzle. The results of the new CFD analysis show that the recommended CFD model of the high turbulent intensity of 40% for the turbulent jet and the fine mesh grid model can accurately predict the test results within an error rate of about 10%. In this work, the turbulent jet model, which is used to simply predict the temperature and velocity profiles along the axial and radial directions by means of the empirical correlations and Tollmien's theory was improved on the basis of the new test data. The results validate the CFD model of analysis. Furthermore, the turbulent jet model developed in this study can be used to analyze pool thermal mixing when an ellipsoidal steam jet is discharged under a high steam mass flux in a subcooled water pool.

A study on film water flow on steep open channel has been seldom found up to date. Therefore, this paper dealed with the depth variation of film thickness of water (city supply normal water) flowing on steep open channel. For this purpose, Experimental apparatus (made of a normal glass with 160cm of length and 15cm of width) was made and the depths of the water flowing on the channel were measured experimentally, changing the channel slope angle from 30 to 80 degree (5 steps) and the flow rate from 0.25 to 10CPM (11 steps). The results obtained, some characteristics of the film flow on the channel are as follows. (1) When thin film water flowed on steep open channel, the depths of flow tended to increase after decreasing and was kept nearly constant in its downstream in case of laminar and transitional flow region. The turining point of the depths of flow from decrease to increase tended to move downward with the increase of Reynolds number. In turbulent flow region, the depths of flow showed reapid decrease in its upper stream, gradual decrease in its midstream and were kept nearly constant in its downstream. (2) While the differences between the depths of flow along the channel slope got small in its upper stream and got large in its downstream in case of laminar flow region, they got very large in its upper stream and were kept nearly constant in its downstream in case of transitional and turbulent flow region. And the move flow rate increases, the more the differences between the depths of flow along the channel slope got large in its upper stream.

Freezing of turbulent water flow between two horizontal cooled parallel plates with the separated region has been investigated experimentally. The flow separation was induced by vertical plates (two-dimensional plates) situated at the inlet of the rectangular channel. The degree of flow separation was varied by employing vertical thin plates with various heights. Three kinds of the vertical plates with 8.0, 9.8 and 12.5 mm in height were utilized. The Reynolds number and cooling temperature ratio were ranged from $3.45\times10^3 to 1.73\times10^4$ and 7.0 to 20.0 respectively, The measurements show that the flow separation influenced remarkably on the local ice formation characteristics. The location of the first ice layer and the average heat transfer at the ice surface were found be correlated as a function of the Reynolds number, the cooling temperature ratio, and the orifice height ratio.

The two-phase turbulent flow past an interface-piercing circular cylinder is studied using a high-fidelity orthogonal curvilinear grid solver with a Lagrangian dynamic subgrid-scale model for large-eddy simulation and a coupled level set and volume of fluid method for air-water interface tracking. The simulations cover the sub-critical and critical and post critical regimes of the Reynolds and sub and super-critical Froude numbers in order to investigate the effect of both dimensionless parameters on the flow. Significant changes in flow features near the air-water interface were observed as the Reynolds number was increased from the sub-critical to the critical regime. The interface makes the separation point near the interface much delayed for all Reynolds numbers. The separation region at intermediate depths is remarkably reduced for the critical Reynolds number regime. The deep flow resembles the single-phase turbulent flow past a circular cylinder, but includes the effect of the free-surface and the limited span length for sub-critical Reynolds numbers. At different Froude numbers, the air-water interface exhibits significantly changed structures, including breaking bow waves with splashes and bubbles at high Froude numbers. Instantaneous and mean flow features such as interface structures, vortex shedding, Reynolds stresses, and vorticity transport are also analyzed. The results are compared with reference experimental data available in the literature. The deep flow is also compared with the single-phase turbulent flow past a circular cylinder in the similar ranges of Reynolds numbers. Discussion is provided concerning the limitations of the current simulations and available experimental data along with future research.
