  • The blade vibration problem of bladed disk is the most critical subject to consider since it directly affects the stable performance of the engine as well as life of the engine. Especially, due to complicated vibration pattern of the bladed disk, more effort was required for vibration analysis and test. The research of measuring the vibration of the bladed disk, using NSMS(Non-intrusive stress measurement) instead of Aeromechanics testing method requiring slip ring or telemetry system with strain gauge, was successful. These testing can report the actual stresses seen on the blades; detect synchronous resonances that are the source of high cycle fatigue(HCF) in blades; measure individual blade mis-tuning and coupled resonances in bladed disks. In order to minimize the error being created due to heat expansion, the tip timing sensor is installed parallel to the blade trailing edge, yielding optimal result. Also, when working on finite element analysis, the whole bladed disk has gone through three-dimensional analysis, evaluating the family mode. The result of the analysis matched well with the test result.

  • The direct synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with acidic and basic active sites is challenging due to the introduction of functional groups by post-functionalization method often jeopardize the framework integrity. Herein, we report the direct synthesis of acid-base bifunctional MOFs with tuning acid-base strength. Employing modulated hydrothermal (MHT) approach, microporous MOFs named $UiO-66-NH_2$ was prepared. Through the ring-opening reaction of 1,3-propanesultone with amino group, $UiO-66-NH_2-SO_3H-type$ catalysts can be obtained. The synthesized catalysts were well characterized and their catalytic performances were evaluated in one-pot glucose to 5-HMF conversion. Results revealed the acid-base bi-functional catalyst possessed high activity and excellent stability. This work provides a general and economically viable approach for the large-scale synthesis of acid-base bi-functional MOFs for their potential use in catalysis field.

  • We report development of a frequency-stabilized mid-infrared continuous-wave (cw) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on a fan-out grating MgO:PPLN crystal pumped at 1064 nm. The OPO resonator was designed as a pump-enhanced standing-wave cavity that resonates to the pump and signal beams. To realize stable operation of the OPO, we applied a modified Pound-Drever-Hall technique, which is a well-known method for powerful laser frequency stabilization. Tuning a poling period of the fan-out grating of the crystal allows wavelength-tunable OPO outputs from 1510 nm to 1852 nm and from 2500 nm to 3600 nm for signal and idler beams, respectively. At the idler wavelengths of 2500 nm, 3000 nm and 3500 nm, we achieved more than 50 mW of output powers at a pumping power of 1.1 W. The long-term stability of the OPO was confirmed by recording the power and wavelength variations of the idler for an hour.

  • The use of internal-model-based linear controller, such as resonant controller, is a well-established technique for the current control of grid-connected systems. Attractive properties for resonant controllers include their two-sequence tracking ability, the simple control structure, and the reduced computational burden. However, in the case of continuous-designed resonant controller, the transient performance is inevitably degraded at a low switching frequency. Moreover, available design methods for resonant controller is not able to realize the direct design of transient performances, and the anticipated transient performance is mainly achieved through trial and error. To address these problems, the zero-order-hold (ZOH) characteristic and inherent time delay in digital control systems are considered comprehensively in the design, and a corresponding hold-equivalent discrete model of the grid-connected converter is then established. The relationship between the placement of closed-loop poles and the corresponding transient performance is comprehensively investigated to realize the direct mapping relationship between the control gain and the transient response time. For the benefit of automatic tuning and real-time adaption, analytical expressions for controller gains are derived in detail using the required transient response time and system parameters. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.

  • Zintl compound Mg3Sb2 is a promising candidate for efficient thermoelectric material due to its small band gap energy and characteristic electron-crystal phonon-glass behavior. Furthermore, this compound enables fine tuning of carrier concentration via chemical doping for optimizing thermoelectric performance. In this study, nominal compositions of Mg3.8Sb2-xTex (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.03) are synthesized through controlled melting and subsequent vacuum hot pressing method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are carried out to investigate phase development and surface morphology during the process. It should be noted that 16 at. % of excessive Mg must be added to the system to compensate for the loss of Mg during melting process. Herein, thermoelectric properties such as Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity, and thermal conductivity are evaluated from low to high temperature regimes. The results show that Te substitution at Sb sites effectively tunes the majority carriers from holes to electrons, resulting in a transition from p to n-type. At 873 K, a peak ZT value of 0.27 is found for the specimen Mg3.8Sb1.99Te0.01, indicating an improved ZT value over the intrinsic value.

  • Splitting tensile strength (STS) is an important mechanical parameter of concrete. This study offers novel methodologies for the early prediction of this parameter. Artificial neural network (ANN), which is a leading predictive method, is synthesized with two metaheuristic algorithms, namely atom search optimization (ASO) and equilibrium optimizer (EO) to achieve an optimal tuning of the weights and biases. The models are applied to data collected from the published literature. The sensitivity of the ASO and EO to the population size is first investigated, and then, proper configurations of the ASO-NN and EO-NN are compared to the conventional ANN. Evaluating the prediction results revealed the excellent efficiency of EO in optimizing the ANN. Accuracy improvements attained by this algorithm were 13.26 and 11.41% in terms of root mean square error and mean absolute error, respectively. Moreover, it raised the correlation from 0.89958 to 0.92722. This is while the results of the conventional ANN were slightly better than ASO-NN. The EO was also a faster optimizer than ASO. Based on these findings, the combination of the ANN and EO can be an efficient non-destructive tool for predicting the STS.

  • In this paper, a novel multi-feature model predictive control (MPC) framework with real-time and adaptive performances is proposed for intelligent structural control in which some drawbacks of the algorithm including, complex control rule and non-optimality, are alleviated. Hence, Linear Programming (LP) is utilized to simplify the resulted control rule. Afterward, the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) is applied to the optimal and adaptive tuning of the LP weights independently at each time step. The stochastic control rule is also achieved using Kalman Filter (KF) to handle noisy measurements. The Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) is then adopted to develop a data-driven and real-time control algorithm. The efficiency of the developed algorithm is then demonstrated by numerical simulation of a twenty-story high-rise benchmark building subjected to earthquake excitations. The competency of the proposed method is proven from the aspects of optimality, stochasticity, and adaptivity compared to the KF-based MPC (KMPC) and constrained MPC (CMPC) algorithms in vibration suppression of building structures. The average value for performance indices in the near-field and far-field (El earthquakes demonstrates a reduction up to 38.3% and 32.5% compared with KMPC and CMPC, respectively.

  • A high-frequency vibration control method is proposed in this paper for Pumped Storage Power Plants (PSPPs) using Eddy Current Tuned Mass Damper (EC-TMD), based on which a new type of EC-TMD device is designed. The eddy current damper parameters are optimized by numerical simulation. On this basis, physical simulation model tests are conducted to compare and study the effect of structural performance with and without damping, different control strategies, and different arrangement positions of TMD. The test results show that EC-TMD can effectively reduce the control effect under high-frequency vibration of the plant structure, and after the additional damping device forms EC-TMD, the energy dissipation is further realized due to the intervention of eddy current damping, and the control effect is subsequently improved. The Multi-Tuned Mass Damper (MTMD) control strategy broadens the tuning band to improve the robustness of the system, and the vibration advantage is more obvious. Also, some suggestions are made for the placement of the dampers to promote their application.
