  • PURPOSE. The most common failure seen in restorations with a zirconia core is total or layered delamination of the ceramic veneer. In the present study, the shear bond strengths between veneering ceramics and colored zirconia oxide core materials were evaluated. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Zirconia discs ($15{\times}12{\times}1.6mm$) were divided into 11 groups of 12 discs each. Groups were colored according to the Vita Classic scale: A3, B1, C4, D2, and D4. Each group was treated with the recommended shading time for 3 s, or with prolonged shading for 60 s, except for the control group. Samples were veneered with 3 mm thick and 3.5 mm in diameter translucent ceramic and subjected to shear test in a universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's HSD tests were used for comparisons of the groups having the same shading times. A paired t-test was used for groups of the same color (3 s/60 s). RESULTS. Among the 11 groups investigated C4 (3 s) had the highest bond strength with a value of 36.40 MPa, while A3 (3 s) showed the lowest bond strength with a value of 29.47 MPa. CONCLUSION. Coloring procedures can affect zirconia/ceramic bond strength. However, the results also showed that bond strengths of all the investigated groups were clinically acceptable.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the marginal gap of all-ceramic crowns fabricated by CEREC$^{(R)}$ in-office CAD/CAM system. Methods: The mandibular first molar was selected as the abutment for the experiments. Thirty working models were prepared. VITA Mark II(VM) and VITA Enamic(VE), LAVA Ultimate(LU) blocks were milled using CEREC MCXL with CEREC 3D system to construct 10 crowns for each groups. To measure marginal gap, milled restorations were examined under digital microscope with scale under 160x magnifications. The results were statistically analyzed using the one-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD test(${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: There was no significant difference in the marginal gap regarding to ceramic materials(p>0.05). Conclusion: Single crowns fabricated using CEREC in-office CAD/CAM system provided clinically acceptable marginal gap. This confirmed that the type of ceramic material used does not determine the precision of fit of a prosthesis.

  • PURPOSE. The aim of the present study was to determine the degree of conversion of light- and dual-cured resin cements used in the cementation of all-ceramic restorations under different thicknesses of translucent (T) and high-translucent (HT) polymer-infiltrated ceramic-network (PICN) material. MATERIALS AND METHODS. T and HT PICN blocks were prepared at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 mm thicknesses (n=80). Resin cement samples were prepared with a diameter of 6 mm and a thickness of 100 ㎛. Light-cured resin cement was polymerized for 30 seconds, and dual-cure resin cement was polymerized for 20 seconds (n=180). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used for degree of conversion measurements. The obtained data were analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey HSD, and independent t-test. RESULTS. As a result of FTIR analysis, the degree of conversion of the light-cured resin cement prepared under 1.5- and 2.0-mm-thick T and HT ceramics was found to be lower than that of the control group. Regarding the degree of conversion of the dual-cured resin cement group, there was no significant difference from the control group. CONCLUSION. Within the limitation of present study, it can be concluded that using of dual cure resin cement can be suggested for cementation of PICN material, especially for thicknesses of 1.5 mm and above.
