To examine the enhancement mechanism of condensing heat transfer through microfin tube, the condensation experiments with refrigerant HCFC 22 are performed using 4 and 6 kinds of microfin tubes with outer diameter of 9.52mm and 7.0mm, respectively. Used microfin tubes have different shape and number of fins with each other The main heat transfer enhancement mechanism is known to be the enlargement of heat transfer area and turbulence promotion. Together with these main factors, we can find other enhancement factors by the experimental data, which are the overflow of the refrigerant over the microfin and microfin arrangement. The overflow of the refrigerant over the microfin can be analyzed by the geometric shape of the microfin. Microfin tubes having a shape which can give much overflow over the microfin show large condensing heat transfer coefficients. The effect of microfin arrangement is related to the heat transfer resistance of liquid film of refrigerant. The condensing heat transfer coefficients are high for the microfin tube with even distribution of liquid film.
The steel tube of Concrete-Filled Tube(CFT) confines the concrete and the concrete restrains the buckling of the tube, The objective of this study is to investigate the influences of the opening shape of the through diaphragm in case of the rectangular CFT column-to-beam connection through the structural experiment. The experiment results are compared with analysis results obtained by using the FEM program. These results are shown that strength of the rectangular CFT column-to-beam connection have similar structural performance regardless of the opening shape if opening areas of the through diaphragm are same. Also in case the connection area/shape of the through diaphragm and the flange of H-beam are similar, it was ascertained that the bending stress occurred at the beam can be transferred to the column through the diaphragm.

Traditional forms of river and coastal structures have become very expensive to build and maintain, because of the shortage of natural rock. Geotextile tubes hydraulically or mechanically filled with dredged materials have been applied in hydraulic and coastal engineering in recent years(shore protection structure, detached breakwater, groins and jetty). Recently, new preliminary design criteria supported by model and prototype tests, and some stability analysis calculations have been studied. In this study, the numerical analysis was performed to investigate the behavior of geotextile tube with various properties of geotextile and hydraulic pumping conditions. Numerical analysis was executed to compare with the results from the large-scale field model tests, and also compared the results of 2-D plane strain analysis and 3-D FEM analysis. A geotextile tube was modeled using the commercial finite element analysis program ABAQUS and the one-quarter of tube was modeled. Behavior of geotextile tube during the hydraulic pumping procedure was analyzed by comparing the large-scale field model test and numerical analysis. The shape variation and maximum tube height between the numerical analysis results and large-scale filed test results are turned out to be a good agreement.

Low-fin tubes are widely used to enhance condensation heat transfer. In this study, condensation heat transfer experiment was conducted on the low-fin tube using R-11. Three different fin densities-787 fpm (fins per meter), 1102 fpm. 1378 fpm-were tested. The results show that low-fin tube enhances the condensation heat transfer considerablely. The enhancement increases as the fin density increases. It was also found that the fin shape and height have a significant effect on the condensation heat transfer coefficient. Slender or high fins showed a higher condensing heat transfer coefficient compared with fat, low fins. For the tube with 1378 fpm, however, excessive fin height decreased the condensing heat transfer coefficient. The reason may be attributed to the increasing condensate retention angle as the fin density increases. The experimental data are compared with existing prediction models. Results show that Webb's surface tension model predicted the data best (within ${\pm}20%$), which confirms that surface tension plays the major role in low-fin tube condensation.
Tube hydroforming is a technology that utilizes hydraulic pressure to form a tube into desired shapes inside die cavities. Due to its advantages, such as weight reduction, increased strength, improved quality, and reduced tooling cost, single-layered tube hydroforming is widely used in industry. However in some special applications, it is necessary to produce multi-layered tubular components which have corrosion resistance, thermal resistance, conductivity, and abrasion resistance. In this study, a hollow forming process to fabricate a part from multi-layered tubes for structural purposes is proposed. To accomplish a successful hydroforming process, an analytical model that predicts optimal load path for various parameters such as tube material properties, thickness of tubes, diameter of holes and the number of holes was developed. Tubular hydroforming experiments to fabricate a hollow part were performed and the optimal loading path developed by the analytical model was successfully verified. The results show that the proposed hydroforming process can effectively produce hollow parts with multi-layered tube without defects such as wrinkling or fracture.

A double-inlet pulse tube refrigerator was fabricated as a U-shape with $\Phi$19.0 mm${\times}$125 mm regenerator packed by #200 stainless steel mesh and $\Phi$12.7 mm${\times}$125 mm pulse tube. A pressure sensor was installed at the inlet of the regenerator and a differential pressure sensor was installed across the bypass. Amplitude of the pulsating pressure was independent of the opening of the orifice and the bypass valves. Helium flow through the orifice and the bypass was calculated based on the measured pressure. Energy loss through the orifice and the bypass was evaluated with the measured pressure and the calculated helium flow rate. The energy loss, which is equivalent to the refrigeration capacity at the cold end of the ideal pulse tube refrigerator, was mainly generated through the orifice. It was proportional to the opening of the orifice valve, but the real refrigerator displayed the best performance at the optimized opening of the orifice valve. This optimized performance of the tested pulse tube refrigerator can be explained by additional refrigeration losses. As an example, the shuttle heat transfer loss of the pulse tube was calculated from the measured experimental data.

In this study, we investigated whether the anhysteretic demagnetization process would be applicable to remove a complicated magnetization of a steel tube as a part of the experimental earlier study for a deperming of naval vessel. The magnetic tube used in this study was a 10cm-long and 1cm-diameter steel tube, and magnetized with a E-shape ferrite core to form a nonuniform magnetization in it. In the anhysteretic demagnetization process, a dc magnetic field applied along the longitudinal direction of the tube decreased from ${\pm}$3kA/m to zero-field with the step of ${\pm}$300A/m. At the same time, an ac bias magnetic field with the frequency of 60Hz and the field intensity of 300A/m was excited along the circumstantial direction of the tube. It was found that the anhysteretic process was useful to demagnetize a small-object like a steel tube from the experimental results showing the residual magnetization reduced over 90%.

The Pilot-Tube is the device that measures velocity and altitude of high speed vehicle. Accurate measurements of speed and altitude are essential to the safe and efficient operation of aircraft. For the purpose of determining optimal design parameters of Pilot-Tube such as nose inlet configuration, nose shape, static hole configuration, and static hole location, subsonic flow field was calculated numerically and analyzed. A Pilot-Tube was manufactured based on numerical flow field analysis, and pressure and air velocity was measured experimentally in the wind tunnel. As a result manufacturing and design technologies of the Pilot-Tube were acquired to make flight-device.

The objectives of this paper are to measure the heat transfer and pressure drop of the heat transfer tube for an evaporator of absorption system applications. Five types of heat transfer tubes with different shape and heat transfer area are tested in the present experiment. Heat transfer and pressure drop performance of heat transfer tubes are measured in various operating conditions, and compared each other. The results show that the heat transfer coefficient of thermoexcel notch tube increases about 79.6% and 45.3% at the film Reynolds number 69.7 compared with that of bare tube and low fin tube, respectively. The thermoexcel notch tube is show the best performance considering pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient.
In the present study, the characteristics of conductive and convective heat transfer occurred in a circular absorber of PTC (parabolic trough concentrator) for medium temperature solar energy utility were numerically investigated. A circular tube was considered as an absorber and the shape of PTC modeled in this study was based on the system that was installed in Korea Institute of Energy Research. Not only convection inside the tube but also conduction through the wall of the tube were analyzed, simultaneously. Circumferentially non-uniform heat flux that was simulated from the non-uniform solar disc model proposed by Jose was applied as thermal boundary condition on the tube surface. And, hydrodynamically fully developed laminar velocity profile was used as the inlet boundary condition and it was assumed that the working fluid was water. And, local heat fluxes at the interface of the tube and the working fluid were calculated for different wall thickness and thermal conductivity of the tube at various Reynolds number. Based on the results, the effects of thermal conduction of the tube on the local heat transfer were investigated.
