  • Heat and mass balance process modeling has been conducted for a coal-firing power plant to be used as a testbed facility for development of various plant systems and equipment. As the material and design of the boiler tube bundle and fuel conversion to the biomass have become major concerns, the process modeling is required to incorporate those features in its calculation. The simulation cases for two different generation load show the satisfying results compared to the operational data from the actual system. Based on the established process conditions, the hypothetical case using wood pellet has also been simulated. Additional calculations for the tube bundle has been conducted regarding the changes in the tube material and design.

  • A recently developed finishing process using rotating magnetic field is known to be very efficient for the finishing of parts such as vacuum tube, sanitary tube, etc., which are difficult to be finished by the conventional finishing methods as they are generally curbed tubes. But, the finishing system using rotating magnetic field have the defect that is the cross section of workpiece only circle because of internal rotating tool. Therefore, new finishing process of the workpieces which cross section are not circle is important and required. magnetic abrasive jet machining is a new concept finishing process. It is the precision internal finishing method using working fluid mixed with magnetic abrasives, which is jetted into the internal surface of tube. And magnetic poles are equipped on external surface of tube. In this study new concept finishing process or, magnetic abrasive jet machining system was developed. machining condition was predicted using simulation and some characteristics of the finishing process was analyzed.

  • Flow forming is an incremental forming process in which rollers are used to form cylindrical parts with repeated turning of both roller and starting material. Both sheet and tube can be used as the starting material. The process is highly useful for producing hollow shaped parts from a tube, with the benefit of the average strain in the final shape being significantly lower than that from a sheet material. In the present study, the flow forming process was studied and optimized for producing a hollow shaped part from seamless steel tube by both experiment and numerical analysis. Upon considering the difficulty of forming seamless steel sheet, the thickness reduction was distributed over several tool paths. In the end, an optimum process condition was attained, and the experiment verified the simulation results.

  • Hydroforming is the technology that utilizes hydraulic pressure to form tube or sheet materials into desired shapes inside die cavities. Tube hydroforming provides a number of advantages over the conventional stamping process, including fewer secondary operations, weight reduction, assembly simplification, adaptability to forming of complex structural components and improved structural strength. In many case, hydroformed parts have to be structurally joined at some point. Therefore it is useful if the hydroformed automotive parts can be given a localized attachment flange. In this study for the numerical process design FE analysis was performed with DYNAFORM 5.5. Die parting angle and circumferential expansion ratio was optimized. With optimized condition, bulge and hydroforming experiments to form flange were performed. Forming characteristic at various pressure conditions was analyzed and optimized internal pressure condition was evaluated. The results show that flanged parts can be successfully produced by tube hydroforming process.

  • The bending phenomenon has been known to be occurred by the difference of velocity at the die exit. The difference of velocity at the die exit section can be obtained by the different velocity of billets through the multi-hole container. The difference of velocity at the die exit can be controlled by the two variables, the one of them is the different velocity of extrusion punch through the multi-hole container, the other is the difference of hole diameter of muliti-hole container. In this paper the difference of hole diameter is applied. So it can bend during extruding products because of the different amount of two billets when billets would be bonded in the porthole dies cavity. And the bending curvature can be controlled by the size of holes. The experiments with aluminum material for the curved tube product had been done for circular or rectangular curved tube section. The results of the experiments show that the curved tube product can be formed by the extru-bending process without the defects such as distortion of section and thickness change of wall of tube and folding and wrinkling. The curvature of product can be controlled by shape of cross section and the difference of billet diameters. And it is known that the bonding and extruding and bending process can be done simultaneously in the die cavity by the experiments that rectangular hollow curved tubes could be extruded by porthole dies with four different size billets made of aluminum material. And it shows that bending phenomenon can happen during extruding with for different billets from the analysis by DEFORM-3D.

  • The bending process for the rectangular curved tube can be developed by the hot metal extrusion machine with the multiple punches moving in the different velocity. The bending phenomenon can be controlled by the two variables, the one of them is the difference of velocity at the die exit section by the different velocity of billets through the multi-hole container. The other is the difference by the different hole diameter. • The objective of this study is to investigate the pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics of the micro-fin tubes before and after the tube-expansion process. Test tubes are single-grooved micro-fin tubes made of copper with an outer diameter of 9.52 mm before the tube-expansion. The direct heating method is applied in order to make the refrigerant evaporated in the micro-fin tubes. The test ranges of the heat flux, mass flux, and the saturation pressure are 5 to 15kW/$m^2$, 100 to 200 kg/$m^2s$ and 540 to 790 kPa, respectively. The effects of the mass flux, heat flux, and the saturation pressure of the refrigerant on the pressure drop and the heat transfer are presented for the refrigerant R22. In the test conditions of this study, the heat transfer coefficient for the micro-fin tube after the tube-expansion is about 16.5% smaller than that before the tube-expansion because the fin height of micro-fin is reduced and the fin shape becomes flatter. The micro-fin tube after the tube-expansion has about 7.7% greater average pressure drop than that before the tube-expansion process.
