  • Fifteen young pigs were used in this study. The animals were divided into three groups 1. Group for removal of the temporal muscle, 2. Group for removal of the masseter muscle, 3, Group for removal of masseter and internal pterygoid muscles. The animals were anesthetized with $3.5\%$ chloral hydrate intraperitoneally. In the right side the head was shaved. The masticatory muscle was removed. The animals were sacrificed four months later. The head was separated from trunk and cleaned by boiling in a solution of potassium hydroxide. The results were as follows; 1. In the group for removal of the temporal muscle, the Coronoid process of the mandible was resorbed. 2. In the group for removal of the masseter muscle, there was produced asymmetrical growth of the mandible, attrition of the molar teeth in the control side, and resorption of the mandibular angle. 3. In the group for removal of the Masseter and Internal muscles, the changes were more severe than that of the group for removal of the masseter muscle. The mandibular angle was completely absent. 4. The growth of the bone seems definitely related to the presence of the muscular tissue actively pulling upon it.

  • The inluence of styrofoam-panel thickness of floating frame on the seedling growth of flue-cured tobacco(Nicotiana tabacum L.) in the newly developed direct-seed float system was investigated . Floating frame used instead of styrofoam-tray consisted of styrofoam-panel (106×108cm) for floating, eight holes(1.Sx2S.0 cm) to uniform the water, and nutrition supply far seedling and water and nutrition absorption cloth placed on the styrofoam-panel. Each floating-frame may lay eight plastic-trays on it. Eight grades of styrofoam-panel thickness from 26 mm to 46mm and two kinds of media were used in the greenhouse system. Dry cells were found from the styrofoam-panel thickness of 43mm in carbonized chaff, compost and original soil rate of L3-3(v/v) media, and of 37mm in peat and perlite rate of 8-2(v/v) media. The thinner styrofoam-panel produced more tender and succulent seedling with the more trunk and the less root weight. When considering the appearance of dry cell, seedling growth, producing healthy tobacco seedlings, and utilization of styrofoam-panel for two kinds of medias the ideal styrofoam-panel thickness were suggested to be around 34mm for flue-cured tobacco reeling production in the newly developed direct-seeding float system. Key words : tobacco seedlings, float system, medium, styrofoam pannel, dry cell.

  • Growth is marked by changes in body shape as well as in body size. Increase in size is described quantitatively by increments over time : changes in shape are complex and perhaps are not possible to quantify satisfactorily. Simply to define or describe static body shape quantitatively is difficult, and traditionally simple ratios or indices have been used. In order to find out the body proportion and the body type of the Korean males and females from 6 to 24 years, the material of measurements obtained by the Korean Body-build Investigations (measured in 1979) was calculated and analyzed. The results are as follows: 1. The growth of the trunk part of the body precedes that of the lower part. Comparing the growth rate of male and female, the latter is higher than the former, especially in 12. 2. When a comparison is made between 6, 9, 12, 15 years and grown-ups(20$\~$24 years) with their respective stature's taken as 100, then values of these children are larger in the measurements related with head, acromial and waist height but smaller in lower extremities than these of the grown-ups. 3. Body proportion changes gradually from infant to adult body type indicating different phases each sex.

  • This study analyzes the body sizes of young boys in order to categorize a sizing system for middle and high school uniforms. The study was based on the $6^{th}$ National Anthropometric Survey (Size Korea 2010) data. The sample size consisted of 2,317 boys between the ages of 13 and 18 years. Most measurement items increased significantly relative to age and there was rapid growth between the ages of 13 and 14 years. The growth for the chest and hip was more than the waist. The drop value 1 (difference between chest circumference and waist circumference) and the drop value 2 (difference between hip circumference and waist circumference) increased remarkably from the age of 13 to the age of 15. Therefore, the waist size decreased and chest and hip became wider relative to the age increase. Middle school students had a smaller chest and hip circumference than high school students in the comparative body measurement results for middle school students (13-15 years) and high school students (16-18 years) of the same height group. The somatotype of high school students showed a long trunk length, broad chest and shoulder.

  • Purpose: Our aim was the longitudinal assessment of cyst size in fetuses with biliary cystic malformation (BCM) to explore its etiology and the possibility of antenatal differentiation between biliary atresia (BA) and congenital biliary dilatation (CBD). Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of all patients diagnosed antenatally with BCM from 1994 to 2014 at our institutions. Results: The study cohort comprised of three patients with BA and six with CBD. There were no significant differences in the gestational age and cyst size at the first detection of BCM between the two groups. In fetuses with CBD, the cyst size steadily increased as the gestational age advanced, while it fluctuated around 1.5 cm and remained below 2.1 cm in those with BA. However, the ratio of cystic area to fetal trunk area was approximately constant due to linear fetal growth in fetuses with CBD. Conclusion: Fetuses with BCM <2.1 cm in the late gestation period were more likely to have BA than CBD. Our observation of cyst enlargement with advancing gestational age in the CBD group was attributed solely to fetal growth. Biliary dilatation in fetuses with CBD and BA might be completed at the onset of BCM.

  • This study develops a coverall design for the body shape and movement of infants. This research analyzed these processes: 1. The current coverall styles preferred for infants. 2. The appropriate products for the real size, body shape, movement, and fit of infants. 3. The observations of the 6 months to 9 months movement and development of infants. 4. The design and creation of a new coverall base in this study, and to check the suitable test the developed coverall design for the infant. The result of this study are: A coverall for infants that lie or crawl on the floor must avoid opening in the center front and a gore has to be added at the crotch of the pants for the better movement of infants. These ways provide infants a neat appearance and easy movement. The test of developed designs shows that the developed coverall design covers the size gap of the trunk loop according to the growth of the infant and the movement of the legs; in addition it provides a positive aesthetic effect. The waistline in the developed coverall (a waistline that should exist lower than the body waistline of the infant) can reduce seam stress because the pressure of the seam line can be absorbed in a dipper. It is one of the suitable design points for infants lying prone all day long in this study.

  • This study has been conducted to investigate the developmental changes of cambial initials and their derivatives in relation to the growing girth of tree in Diosypros kaki and Firmiana simplex. In D. Kaki and F. simplex with typical storeyed cambium, increase in the girth of camium occurred by radial anticlinal division in general, however occasionally the increase was companied by pseudotransverse division. The length of fusiform initials, vessel member, and sieve tube member remained relatively constant throughout the secondary growth but that of fiber showed general tendancy to increase with growing girth of tree. During the girth increase of tree, height and number of ray remained constant in D. kaki, however in F. simplex, height of ray markedly decreased while the number of ray per unit area more or less increased. The secondary ray was originated from the segmentation or division of the side or end of fusiform initials.

  • Benign symmetric lipomatosis(BSL) is a lesion characterized by symmetrical and diffuse growth of adipose tissue. It is commonly found in the posterior neck or upper trunk, manifesting itself as an entity known as Madelung disease or Lanoid-Bensaude syndrome. Lipomatosis affecting the tongue is very unusual. The etiology of BSL is unknown, but It can be associated with alcoholism, liver dysfunction, hypothyroidism. Because of its diffuse histologic feature, complete resection of the lesion is often difficult. Seventy one years old male patient, whose chief complaint was multiple nodules of tongue was referred to our department. The lesion was diagnosed histopathologically as BSL and subsequently removed surgically. So we report this rare case of BSL with literature review.

  • Construction of the Shinkansen was planned on the basis of a traffic volume determined by the Trunk Line Investigation Committee set up within JNR in 1957. Passenger and freight traffic along the vitally important Tokaido Main Line had been steadily increasing, passenger traffic reaching $24\%$ and freight $23\%$ of the total domestic traffic. Train frequency was expected to reach the upper limit in the 1960s. Estimated traffic volume was 13,000 million passenger-km for the opening year 1964 and 20,000 million for 1975. Although the traffic did not reach the estimed figure during 1975 reached about twice the estimated figure for the Tokyo-Shinoska Section. The amazing growth of the national economy was undoubtedly responsible for this.

  • An organic apple (Malus ${\times}$ domestics Borkh.) orchard was established to study the interaction effects of ground cover management systems (GMS) and nutrient sources (NS) on soil and tree nutrient status and tree growth. Trees received one of four GMS: 1) green compost (GC), 2) wood chips (WC), 3) shredded paper (SP), and 4) mow-and-blow (MB). Across all GMS, one of three NS was applied: A) a commercial organic fertilizer (CF), B) poultry litter (PL), and C) control (NF). Overall, GMS had greater effects on the variables than did NS. GC mulch supplied greater nutrients, followed by WC, SP, and MB mulches. SP trees had lower foliar [N] in the first two years than the GC and WC trees. GC-and WC-treated trees had larger trunk cross sectional area than the SP and MB trees.
