In general, Fracture of the material is not occurring of the maximum normal stress or the maximum shear stress failure in the state. Maximum normal stress and maximum shear stress in the state of Critical coupling from being destroyed based on the Mohr-Coulomb theory. Couple of different mixtures, including permeable asphalt pavement, SMA and dense-graded asphalt mixture, were used for compression triaxial test at $45^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$. Mohr-Coulomb theory to the analysis of compression triaxial test result of the internal friction angle $38.9^{\circ}{\sim}46.9^{\circ}$ measured somewhat irregularly, but in the case of cohesion, depending on whether the temperature and immersion of the specimen appeared differently. In addition, Indirect tensile test and compression triaxial test of the asphalt mixture to determine the correlation between compression triaxial test results assessed as cohesion and internal friction angle calculated using the theoretical Indirect tensile strength and measured indirectly tensile strength were analyzed. The Measured & Predicted IDT St values tended to be proportional.
Triaxial tests are essential to estimate the shear strength properties of the soil or rock. Normally triaxial tests are carried out on samples of 38 mm diameter and 76 mm height. Granular materials, predominantly used in base/sub-base construction of pavements or in railways have size range of 60-75 mm. Determination of shear strength parameters of those materials can be made possible only through triaxial tests on large diameter samples. This paper describes a large diameter cyclic triaxial testing facility set up in the Geotechnical Engineering lab of Indian Institute of Science. This setup consists of 100 kN capacity dynamic loading frame, which facilitates testing of samples of up to 300 mm diameter and 600 mm height. The loading ram can be actuated up to a maximum frequency of 10 Hz, with maximum amplitude of 100 mm. The setup is capable of carrying out static as well as dynamic triaxial tests under isotropic, anisotropic conditions with a maximum confining pressure of 1 MPa. Working with this setup is a difficult task because of the size of the sample. In this paper, a detailed discussion on the various problems encountered during the initial testing using the equipment, the ideas and solutions adopted to solve them are presented. Pilot experiments on granular sub-base material of 53 mm down size are also presented.
In order to study the triaxial mechanical behavior of steel fiber reinforced high performance concrete (SFRHPC), the standard triaxial compression tests with four different confining pressures are performed on the cylindrical specimens. Three different steel fiber volumes (0, 1% and 2%) are added in the specimens with diameter of 50 mm and height of 100 mm. Test results show that the triaxial compressive strength and peak strain increase with the increasing of fiber content at the same confining pressure. At the same steel fiber content, the triaxial compressive strength and peak strain increases with the confining pressure. The compressive strength growth rate declines as the confining pressure and steel fiber content increases. Longitudinal cracks are dominant in specimens with or without steel fiber under uniaxial compression loading. While with the confining pressure increases, diagonal crack due to shear is obvious. The Mohr-Coulomb criterion is illustrated can be used to describe the failure behavior, and the cohesive force increases as steel fiber content increases. Finally, the numerical model is built by using the PFC3D software. In the numerical model a index is introduced to reflect the effect of steel fiber content on the triaxial compressive behavior. The simulating stress-strain curve and failure mode of SFRHPC are agree well with the experimental results.
Shear characteristics of quarry blasted rocks were compared using large scale direct shear tests and triaxial tests. For comparison purpose, similar test conditions were simulated as much as possible and three types of relative density (50%, 70%, 90%) were employed for the test. Results indicate that stress-strain behavior shows the same trend for two tests, but the measured shear strengths differ for the different test ms and depends on the relative density. At low relative density, the internal friction angles from direct shear test are smaller than those from triaxial tests. However, at high relative density, this phenomenon is reversed.

Unlike artificially created homogeneous materials, the process of calculating the elastic modulus of natural soil involves the possibility of errors. Because the stress-strain behavior of soil is nonlinear, the secant modulus of elasticity is often used based on 1/2 of the stress at failure. Since soil has the property of changing its elastic modulus depending on the confining pressure, numerical analysis models that analyze its behavior inevitably include complex elements. The hyperbolic model, which relatively accurately simulates the behavior immediately after loading in soft ground, assumes that the stress-strain curve of the consolidated undrained triaxial test is hyperbolic and requires the slope of the tangent line at the starting point. However, the slope of the initial tangent in the stress-strain curve obtained from an actual triaxial test is difficult to have regularity according to changes in confining pressure. Additionally, due to the characteristics of a hyperbola, even small changes in related factors cause large changes in the hyperbola. Therefore, there is a lot of randomness in the process of calculating model parameters from the triaxial test results, which causes large differences in the results. Therefore, the method of calculating the initial elastic modulus by the consolidation test presented in this study is also used to verify the method by the triaxial test. It can be applied. However, since this study was applied to only one sample showing typical consolidation characteristics, it is necessary to check samples with various physical properties in the future.
The cyclic triaxial strength test is commonly applied as a laboratory test for evaluating the liquefaction resistance ratio. However, the test procedure was not standardized in South Korea until recently; thus, the test results could significantly differ depending on the performer and apparatus, even when identical soil is used. In this study, the American and Japanese standards for the cyclic triaxial strength test were analyzed and the Korean standard was developed considering domestic circumstances. To verify the effectiveness of the standardization of liquefaction laboratory tests, several cases of cyclic triaxial strength tests were conducted and analyzed (1) following the Korean standard and (2) without following any specific instructions for the test procedure. Under (1), the deviation of the liquefaction resistance ratio dramatically decreased.
This paper proposes a new procedure carrying out a series of consolidated-undrained triaxial tests with a specimen. In this procedure high confining pressure applied to the specimen keeps constant during the test and each stage of consolidation can be controlled by partial drainage. With this procedure the test time is remarkably reduced by performing a series of triaxial tests with a single specimen. In order to verify the appliesbility of the procedure, standard triaxial compression tests and conventional multi -stage triaxial testy are performed for both undisturbed and disturbed samples and the results are compared with those of the proposed procedure. The comparison shows that strength parameters determined by the proposed procedure are well agreed with those of the other tests and thus it can be said that the procedure is very effective and practical in determining strength parameters.

The three-dimensional strength behavior of compacted decomposed granite soil was studied using cubical triaxial tests with independent control of the three principal stresses. All specimens were loaded under conditions of principal stress direction fixed and aligned with the directions of compacted plane. For comparable test conditions, the major principal strain and volume strain to failure were smallest when the major principal stress acted perpendicular to the compacted plane. The opposite extremes were obtained when the major principal stress acted parallel to the compacted plane. In cubical triaxial tests with same b values and with ${\theta}$ values in one of three sectors of the octahedral plane, independent of the range of ${\theta}$, higher friction angles are obtained in tests with b greater than in triaxial compression tests in which b 0.0, Comparison between the results of the drained cubical triaxial tests on lksan compacted decomposed granite soil and the cross section of the Mohr-Coulomb failure surface as well as the cross section of the Mohr-Coulomb failure surface were made. Lade's isotropic failure criterion based on vertical specimens overestimates the strengths for tests performed with values of 0 between 90˚ and 1 50˚ the Mohr-Coulomb criterion generally underestimates the strengths of tests performed with values of ${\theta}$ between $0^{\circ}$ and $180^{\circ}$ except around the $120^{\circ}$.
Liquefaction phenomenon refers to a phenomenon in which excess pore water pressure occurs when a dynamic load such as an earthquake is rapidly applied to a loose sandy soil ground where the ground is saturated, and the ground loses effective stress and becomes liquid. The laboratory repetition test for liquefaction evaluation can be performed through a repeated triaxial compression test and a repeated shear test. In this regard, this study attempted to evaluate the effects of the relative density of sand on the liquefaction resistance strength according to particle size distribution using repeated triaxial compression tests, and additional experimental verification using numerical analysis was conducted to overcome the limitations of experimental equipment. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the liquefaction resistance strength increased as the relative density increased regardless of the classification of soil, and the liquefaction resistance strength of the SP sample close to SW was quite high. As a result of numerical analysis, it was confirmed that the liquefaction resistance strength increased as the confining pressure increased under the same relative density, and the liquefaction resistance strength did not decrease below a certain limit even though the confining pressure was significantly reduced at a relatively low relative density. This is judged to be due to a change in confining pressure according to the depth of the ground. As a result of analyzing the liquefaction resistance strength according to the frequency range, it was confirmed that there was no significant difference from the laboratory experiment results in the basic range of 0.1 to 1.0 Hz.
This paper presents the interrelationship between undrained static and cyclic shear behavior. Laboratory works were performed through the undralned static and cyclic triaxial test using Nak-Dong River sand. And static triaxial test involved the triaxial extension test for comparison with cyclic shear behavior Cyclic triaxial test was performed with a variety of combination conditions of initial static shear stress $(q_{st})$ and cyclic stress $(q_{cy})$. In this result, the stress path of cyclic shear behavior was correspondent with static shear behavior passing the critical stress ratio (CSR) line because of the development of flow deformation. After that, a failure occurred according to failure line (FL) of static shear behavior. The stress path of cyclic shear behavior showed essentially the same with static shear behavior, although it appears a little different in test method.
