UV-INDUCED POLYMERIZATION OF SIZE-CONTROLLED PLATINUM/POLY[STYRENE-DIVINYLBENZENE-TRI(PROPYLENE GLYCOL) DIACRYLATE] HYDROPHOBIC CATALYST BEADS IN MICROFLUIDICS

  • The catalytic exchange of hydrogen isotopes between hydrogen and water has been known to be a very useful process for the separation of tritium from tritiated water. For the process, a highly active hydrophobic catalyst is needed. This study provides an effective fabrication method of size-controlled platinum/poly[styrene-divinylbenzene-tri(propylene glycol) diacrylate] [Pt/poly(SDB-TPGDA)] hydrophobic catalyst beads with a narrow size distribution. Platinum nanoparticles were prepared by ${\gamma}$-ray-induced reduction in the aqueous phase first, and then uniformly dispersed in SDB-TPGDA comonomer after the hydrophobization of platinum nanoparticles with alkylamine stabilizers. The porous Pt/poly(SDB-TPGDA) hydrophobic catalyst beads were synthesized by the UV-initiated polymerization of the mixture droplets prepared in a capillary-based microfluidic system. The size of as-prepared catalyst beads can be controlled in the range of $200-1,000{\mu}m$ by adjusting the flow rate of dispersed and continuous phases, as well as the viscosity of the continuous phase. Sorbitan monooleate and cyclohexanol were used as coporogens to control the porosities of the catalyst beads.

Preparation and C-V characteristics of $Y_2O_3-StabilzedZrO_2$ Thin Films by PE MO CVD (플라즈마 화학 증착법에 의한 $Y_2O_3-StabilzedZrO_2$박막의 제조와 Capacitance-Voltage특성)

  • Yttria-stabilized zirconia(YSZ) films were prepared onto p-type (100) silicon wafer by a plasma-enhanced metallorganic chemical vapor deposition(PE MO CVD) processing involving the application of vapor mixture of tri(2.2.6.6-tetramethyl-3, 5-heptanate) yttrium$[Y(DPM)_3]$, zirconiumtriflouracethyla cetonate$(Zr(tfacac)_4$ and oxygen gas. The x-ray diffraction(XRD) and fourier transform infrared spectra(FT1R) results showed that the deposited YSZ films had a single cubic phase. $Y_2O_3$ content of YSZ film was analyzed by PIXE(partic1e induced x-ray emission). The experimental results by PIXE revealed that 12.lmol%, 20.4mol% and 31.6mol% $Y_2O_3$ could be obtained as the $Y(DPM)_3$ bubbling temperature varied at $160^{\circ}C, 165^{\circ}C$ and $170^{\circ}C$ respectively. The increase of $Y(DPM)_3$ bubbling temperature caused shifting flat band voltage to have a negative value.

  • Si wafer, which was treated with TMSP-TBA (N-trimethoxysilylpropyl-n,n,n-tri-n-butylammonium bromide), was used foF a substrate to grow a MFI membrane. Growth of membranes was conducted in various conditions such as temperature and gravity, and their structures were in detail studied with field emission scanning electron microscope and x-ray diffractometer. The structures of membranes grown on substrates were strongly dependent on growing temperature and gravity.

  • The early hydration of tri-calcium silicate $(C_3S)$ with different cooling conditions was studied by varing water/solid ratio and atmosphere. The cooling condition and water/solid ratio affected to the second peak of heat liberation but it had no correlation to the induction period. The $Ca^{2+}$ concentration in the aqueous solution was maximized at the starting point of the second peak of heat liberation but in the $CO_2$ exsistence the $Ca^{2+}$ concentration was low and $SiO_2$ con-centration was increased. The hydration rate of $C_3S$ was so accelerated that the induction period could not appear in the $CO_2$ exsistence.

Influence of the Structural Characteristics of Amino Acids on Direct Methylation Behaviors by TMAH in Pyrolysis

  • Direct methylation behaviors of 20 amino acids with tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) were studied under diluted conditions with silica. Amino acid concentration was controlled by dilution with silica ($SiO_2$) and the molar ratios of amino acid/silica were 0.20, 0.50, and 2.0. The molar ratios of amino acid/TMAH (0.51 - 4.64) also varied. It was found that arginine, asparagine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamic acid, and glutamine did not generate any directly methylated pyrolysis products, whereas alanine, glycine, isoleucine, leucine, methionine, phenylanaline, valine, and proline generated all the directly methylated pyrolysis products. Tri- and tetra methylated products of lysine consisted of two types. Histidine and threonine hardly generated the partly methylated products. Mono- and dimethylated products of serine, tryptophan, and tyrosine were not observed. Relative intensities of the methylated products varied with the amino acid concentration, TMAH concentration, and pyrolysis temperature. Direct methylation behaviors of amino acids were explained by the structural characteristics of amino acids.

  • This study examined the pharmacokinetic disposition of SJ-8029. a novel anticancer agent possessing microtubule and topoisomerase inhibiting activities. in mice. rats. rabbits and dogs after i.v. administration. The serum concentration-time curves of SJ-8029 were best described by tri-exponential equations in all these animal species. The mean CI. $V_{ss}$ and $t_{1/2}$ were 0.3 L/h. 0.1 Land 63.2 min in mice. 1.5 L/h. 1.6 Land 247.7 min in rats. 13.8 L/h. 39.6 Land 245.9 min in rabbits. and 29.2 L/h. 44.6 Land 117.4 min in dogs. respectively. Performance and Variation-Immunity Benefits of Segmented-Channel MOSFETs (SegFETs) Using HfO2 or SiO2 Trench Isolation

  • Segmented-channel MOSFETs (SegFETs) can achieve both good performance and variation robustness through the use of $HfO_2$ (a high-k material) to create the shallow trench isolation (STI) region and the very shallow trench isolation (VSTI) region in them. SegFETs with both an HTI region and a VSTI region (i.e., the STI region is filled with $HfO_2$, and the VSTI region is filled with $SiO_2$) can meet the device specifications for high-performance (HP) applications, whereas SegFETs with both an STI region and a VHTI region (i.e., the VSTI region is filled with $HfO_2$, and the STI region is filled with $SiO_2$) are best suited to low-standby power applications. AC analysis shows that the total capacitance of the gate ($C_{gg}$) is strongly affected by the materials in the STI and VSTI regions because of the fringing electric-field effect. This implies that the highest $C_{gg}$ value can be obtained in an HTI/VHTI SegFET. Lastly, the three-dimensional TCAD simulation results with three different random variation sources [e.g., line-edge roughness (LER), random dopant fluctuation (RDF), and work-function variation (WFV)] show that there is no significant dependence on the materials used in the STI or VSTI regions, because of the predominance of the WFV.

  • The major constituents in spent FCC catalysts are Si, Al, Fe, Ti, alkali metals and some others. The spent catalyst is also composed small amounts of rare metals such as Ce, Nd, Ni and V. The selective adsorption and concentration of Ce and Nd from the leaching solution of spent FCC catalysts with sulfuric acid($0.25mol/dm^3$) were carried out by the column method with a chelate resin having a functional group of aminophosphoric acid type. Ce and Nd were separated from eluate liquor containing Al, Nd and V by the precipitation process with oxalic acid. Vanadium is purified from chloride ion coexistance by solvent extraction, employing tri-n-octyl phosphine oxide as extractant with Al in the raffinate solution. Rare metals with the purity of 99 percent were obtained from the spent FCC catalyst.

Properties Optimization for Perovskite Oxide Thin Films by Formation of Desired Microstructure

  • Perovskite oxide materials are very important for the electronics industry, because they exhibit promising properties. With an interest in the obvious applications, significant effort has been invested in the growth of highly crystalline epitaxial perovskite oxide thin films in our laboratory. And the desired structure of films was formed to achieve excellent properties. $Y_1Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ (YBCO) superconducting thin films were simultaneously deposited on both sides of 3 inch wafer by inverted cylindrical sputtering. Values of microwave surface resistance R$_2$ (75 K, 145 GHz, 0 T) smaller than 100 m$\Omega$ were reached over the whole area of YBCO thin films by pre-seeded a self-template layer. For implementation of voltage tunable high-quality varactor, A tri-layer structured SrTiO$_3$ (STO) thin films with different tetragonal distortion degree was prepared in order to simultaneously achieve a large relative capacitance change and a small dielectric loss. Highly a-axis textured $Ba_{0.65}Sr_{0.35}TiO_3$ (BST65/35) thin films was grown on Pt/Ti/SiO$_2$/Si substrate for monolithic bolometers by introducing $Ba_{0.65}Sr_{0.35}RuO_3$ (BSR65/35) thin films as buffer layer. With the buffer layer, the leakage current density of BST65/35 thin films were greatly reduced, and the pyroelectric coefficient of $7.6\times10_{-7}$ C $cm^{-2}$ $K^{-1}$ was achieved at 6 V/$\mu$m bias and room temperature.

Effects of dentin surface preparations on bonding of self-etching adhesives under simulated pulpal pressure

  • Objectives: This study evaluated the effects of different smear layer preparations on the dentin permeability and microtensile bond strength (µTBS) of 2 self-etching adhesives (Clearfil SE Bond [CSE] and Clearfil Tri-S Bond Universal [CTS]) under dynamic pulpal pressure. Materials and Methods: Human third molars were cut into crown segments. The dentin surfaces were prepared using 4 armamentaria: 600-grit SiC paper, coarse diamond burs, superfine diamond burs, and carbide burs. The pulp chamber of each crown segment was connected to a dynamic intra-pulpal pressure simulation apparatus, and the permeability test was done under a pressure of 15 cmH2O. The relative permeability (%P) was evaluated on the smear layer-covered and bonded dentin surfaces. The teeth were bonded to either of the adhesives under pulpal pressure simulation, and cut into sticks after 24 hours water storage for the µTBS test. The resin-dentin interface and nanoleakage observations were performed using a scanning electron microscope. Statistical comparisons were done using analysis of variance and post hoc tests. Results: Only the method of surface preparation had a significant effect on permeability (p < 0.05). The smear layers created by the carbide and superfine diamond burs yielded the lowest permeability. CSE demonstrated a higher µTBS, with these values in the superfine diamond and carbide bur groups being the highest. Microscopic evaluation of the resin-dentin interface revealed nanoleakage in the coarse diamond bur and SiC paper groups for both adhesives. Conclusions: Superfine diamond and carbide burs can be recommended for dentin preparation with the use of 2-step CSE.
