  • In this study, monthly and seasonal dissolved oxygen trends of 19 water quality measurement stations in Sapgyo stream watershed were analyzed using monthly dissolved oxygen (DO) data measured for 16 years (1995~2010). Mann-Kendall trend test and Sen's slope estimator were carried out for trend analysis. Furthermore, Sapgyo stream watershed was divided into four different sections (Sapgyo stream, Muhan stream, Gykgyo stream, and Sapgyo lake) and chi-square test of homogeneity for DO trend was carried out for four different sections. The study results indicated that most of water quality measurement stations showed increasing or non-significant trend of DO on a monthly and seasonal basis. The chi-square test of homogeneity for each water quality measurement station showed the statistical homogeneity in seasonal DO trend; however, the test results showed the statistical non-homogeneity in monthly DO trend for the stations located in the reservoir. Overall, the dissolved oxygen trend in each water quality measurement station showed different patterns depending on the location of each station and season.

  • The goal of this paper is to analysis the trend of stream quality about the upstream, middle stream and high areas of Nakdong River measurement points from January 1998 to December 2006. and to suggest some policy alternatives in Nakdong river. It used the three different monthly time series data such as BOD (biochemical oxygen demand), TN (Total Nitrogen) and TP(Total Phosphorus), of the three of Nakdong River measurement points. BOD, TN and TP data are analyzed with the LOWESS(Locally Weighted Scatter plot Smoother) nonparametric method.

  • Chungcheongnam-do has been measuring the flow rate and water quality of streams in the province once a month since 2011 in order to water environment policies. Based on the results, after evaluating the coefficient of variation and the tendency of the water quality trend by using the Mann-Kendall test and Sen's Slope for each stream, the streams subject to priority introduction of Total Pollution Load Management at Tributaries were selected through the Stream Grouping Method. The water quality trend analysis results for 125 streams using the Mann-Kendall test and Sen's Slope were evaluated as streams showing a tendency of deteriorating water quality Biochemical oxygen demand (BOD): 13 streams, Total Phosphorus (T-P): 16 streams). Streams with deteriorating water quality were classified into A-D groups using the Stream Grouping Method. Group A, which has a high flow rate and high water quality, is a stream that requires priority management, and was selected as a stream for introduction of Total Pollution Load Management at Tributaries. There are 7 streams that need to be introduced into the BOD category, and there are 7 streams that need to be introduced into the T-P category. In this study, based on flow and water quality monitoring data accumulated over a long period of time (2011-2022), statistical techniques are used to select watersheds in which water quality is deteriorating. Accordingly, it is expected that it will be useful in establishing a water quality improvement plan in the future.

  • A new approach based on the Seasonal Mann-Kendall Trend Analysis, was presented in this paper, in order to estimate effect of water quality management policy in Kyoungan Stream which is one of major tributaries into the Lake Paldang. The estimation was undertaken by comparing water quality trend slopes before and after implementation of the policy. The monthly water quality data of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Nitrogen (TN) and Total Phosphorus (TP) measured from 1992 to 2005, were analyzed to determine the Kendall slopes before and after the Han River special policy implemented at 1998. The results indicated that the 1998 special policy would be effective in water quality improvement not at upstream but at downstream. This result agrees well with the previous water quality studies at Kyoungan stream. It was suggested that the presented approach could be an useful tool to estimate effect of a water quality management policy.

  • The goal of this study is to forecast the trend of stream quality and to suggest some policy alternatives in Gumbo river. It used the five different monthly time series data such as BOD, COD, T-N and EC of the nine of Gumbo River measurement points from Jan. 1998 to Dec. 2006. Water pollution is serious at Gumbo2 and Palgeo stream measurement points. BOD, COD, T-N and EC data are analyzed with the exponential smoothing model and the trend is forecasted until Dec. 2009.

  • Flow rate, watertable and selected water quality of 2 small rural streams and 6 observation well located in Kangwon-do, Korea, were monitored land use of the watersheds was investigated to describe the trend of stream water quality for 2 years and groundwater quality for 1 year. Water qualities were analyzed with respect to BOD, SS, T-N, Nitrate, T-P and E-coli. Stream water quality and gorundwater quality directly concerned with the amount of rainfall and paddy fields. but water quality of watersheds is existed with other factor. Therefore, We have to continued monitoring and developing the best management practice.

  • Anyang Stream including its main branch is the biggest branch stream of Han River in Korea. The geological and geomorphological characteristics were investigated to the affected area of Anyang Stream, in which rainfall characteristic was analyzed. The water quality surveyed that the analysis of water pollution used to biotic index and biological water pollution. The rainfall pattern in this area was like to that of typical Korea, but the rate of trigger and runoff during summer season(June~August) is more higher than mean of Korea. Before 2003, a dried stream is severe status, which was due to abundant runoff, but this status are improved. After 1997, water quality of stream is recovering status such as water pollution of stream steeply decreased. Especially after 2003, this trend is more quickly improved. Although, owing to the increasing of a T-N and SS at upstream wastewater were due to bad collection of industrial factories, livestock's and mans living, the water quality worsted at upstream. Water quality in total section of main stream was severely contaminated that water-quality limit is 5 with polysaprobic by water self-purification. That of main branch was 1~3limits with ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-mesosaprobic in Anyang city area, But water quality in all area about another branch of Anyang stream except Anyang city area was almost under of 3 grades. Though trying of Anyang city for recover movement(completion of 2nd Sewage Treatment Plant and Water supply pipe system) on Anyang stream, water pollution states of upper branch in Anyang stream was not better than its of 2002 because it may be difference of control area on other cities.

  • The goal of this paper is to investigate the trend of stream quality and the quality of water in Nakdong river by the method of factor analysis. It used the fourteen different monthly time series data such as pH, BOD, COD, SS, TN and etc. of the thirty four of Nakdong River measurement points from Jan. 1998 to Dec. 2006. The result of factor analysis is that the factor 1 results from organic water pollution is occupied 29.288% such as BOD, COD, TN and EC, and the factor 2 explained from sewage and a seasonal variation is occupied 16.467% such as SS.

  • In this study, we analyzed the trends of water quality along the main stream in Nakdong river basin using the recent data and seasonal Mann-Kendall test. Monthly averaged values of DO, BOD, SS, COD, TN, and TP from 1989 to 2014 for 14 stations (including 2 TMDLs stations) were used in the study. The trend analysis results showed that BOD and TP at most stations has decreasing temporal trend except a few stations while COD and SS showed increasing trend at most stations. Temporal trends in TN at 8 stations were found to be statistically significant and 5 of them showed increasing temporal trend. Temporally averaged BOD, COD, TN and TP were generally increasing as going downstream and the worst water quality were found at Goryeong and Hyunpung station. Overall, water quality of Nakdong river especially in COD, SS, and TN getting worse in time at most stations and as going downstream.
