  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the trend of clinical research on 'mild and sub-clinical depressions' in China. Method : The journal search was performed using China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI). Our inclusion criteria were as follows: TCM clinical trials for mild, sub-clinical, early stage of depression. Exclusion criteria were the following: non-TCM clinical trials, disease-associated depression related clinical trials. Results : We included 16 papers in this study. 1. In this study, we realized there have been several mild and sub-clinical depressions related clinical trials conducted in the field of TCM. 2. The result of 10 Journals used the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale for diagnosis and assessment criteria of mild and sub-clinical depressions. 3. The selected journals categorized by various interventions, such as, herbal medicine(7), acupuncture(4), miscellaneous(5). 4. Also, 7 Journals showed the significant improvements in patients with mild and sub-clinical depressions by TCM interventions, and 5 studies of TCM patent prescription reported that herbal medicine therapy has less side effect than the western medicine. Conclusion : Through this study, we found out that several researchers in China performed clinical trials on mild and sub-clinical depressions constantly. From the result of this study, we need to concern about the necessity of research on the mild and sub-clinical depression in Korea. Therefore, this result could be used as a meaningful reference for the design of future clinical trials.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the research trend of 341 studies published in Journal of Korean Clinical Nursing Research from 1995 to 2008. Methods: This study was conducted from May to November, 2009. The tool for analysis developed through literature reviews and discussions of researchers consisted of 7 categories such as characteristics of researchers, research designs, subjects, data collection methods, ethical consideration, nursing interventions, and dependent variables. Data were analyzed by frequency and percentage. Results: The mean number of author per study was 4.7, and clinical nurses were the most frequent as the first author (79.7%) and as a corresponding author (67.1%). Quantitative study was 97.6% and nonexperimental study was 51.7%. The most frequently used research designs were quasi-experimental study (73.9%) among experimental studies and survey study (79.1%) among nonexperimental studies. Patients were the most frequent subjects for studies (55.8%). 46.1% of studies gathered data with questionnaire, 57.7% of studies had consent from patients, and 44.3% of studies used nursing skills for nursing interventions, and 60.0% of studies used clinical end points for dependent variables. Conclusion: The research trend of clinical nursing studies shows that clinical nurses mostly perform quasi-experimental researches to solve patients' problem and frequently use nursing skills for nursing intervention and explore the effect of nursing interventions on clinical end points.

  • Objectives : This study was aimed to review the trend of clinical studies in Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry since 2001 to 2010. Methods : We collected 260 clinical studies and analyzed them for publish year, sorts of disease or symptoms, pattern identification diagnosis, and classification of clinical studies. Among them, we selected 46 clinical experimental studies and these studies were further analyzed for publish year, research institution, sort of disease or symptoms, sorts of treatments, number of subject, and pattern identification diagnosis. Results : The number of clinical studies in Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry have increased since the year of 2001. There were 62 kinds of diseases and symptoms and Hwa-Byung had the highest number of studies followed by depression, headache, insomnia and so on. The clinical experimental studies, which took up 17% of the clinical studies, have increased since 2001 and was varied with year. There were 13 reserch institutions for clinical experimental studies and they studied about stress, dementia, Hwa-Byung, and so on. Most of studies researched treatment about acupuncture, herb medicine, and meditation treatment for persons under 144. There are only 22% of studies using pattern identification diagnosis. Conclusions : For the development of oriental medicine for psychiatric disease, we need more qualifying clinical studies like RCT. We hope more researchers for psychiatry disease of oriental medicine will be interested in the publication of clinical studies and this will serve to produce advance of oriental medicine as evidence based medecine.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate whether dairy intake was associated with the severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) disease and the probability of hospitalization of patients. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 141 patients with COVID-19 with an average age of 46.23 ± 15.88 years. The number of men (52.5%) participating in this study was higher than that of women. The association between dairy intake and COVID-19 was evaluated by multivariable logistic regression analysis. The risk of hospitalization in the highest tertile of dairy intake was 31% lower than in the lowest tertile (odds ratio [OR], 0.69; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.37-1.25, p trend = 0.023). Higher milk and yogurt intake was associated with a reduced risk of hospitalization due to COVID-19. Patients in the third tertiles were about 65% (p for trend = 0.014) and 12% (p for trend = 0.050) less likely to be hospitalized than those in the first tertile, respectively. Dairy consumption, especially low-fat ones, was associated with a lower risk of hospitalization due to COVID-19 and lower severity of COVID-19.

  • Objectives : Hapgok (LI4) is one of the most widely used acupoints in clinical practice. This study aims to investigate the trend of clinical studies including LI4 acupoint stimulation in Korea. Methods : Papers of clinical researches including LI4 acupoint stimulation in Korean journals were searched in Korean databases of Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal, Korean Studies Information Service System, Korea Citation Index, DBpia, Research Information Sharing Service, and ScienceON. The papers were then analyzed focusing on the number of publications by year, the types of the clinical research, interventions, research topics, institutes, and journals. Results : A total of 154 publications were included in this study. The first paper was published in 1981, and the number of papers has gradually increased since the 1990s. Although LI4 acupoint stimulation was included, most of the papers had additional acupoints and interventions. Diseases of the nervous system were the most common, followed by diseases of the digestive system and diseases of the circulatory system. Kyung Hee University is the institution that published the most papers, and the journal that published the most papers is The Journal of Korean Oriental Internal Medicine. Conclusions : Since the 1990s, the number of clinical studies on LI4 acupoint has increased. However, the results of the studies are insufficient to prove the efficacy of LI4 acupoint because most of the studies were case reports using additional acupoints and interventions. Therefore, more rigorous studies are needed to prove the efficacy of LI4 acupoint.
