  • This paper investigates the problem of protecting multicast sessions in mesh wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) networks against single link failures, for example, a fiber cut in optical networks. First, we study the two characteristics of multicast sessions in mesh WDM networks with sparse light splitter configuration. Traditionally, a multicast tree does not contain any circles, and the first characteristic is that a multicast tree has better performance if it contains some circles. Note that a multicast tree has several branches. If a path is added between the leave nodes on different branches, the segment between them on the multicast tree is protected. Based the two characteristics, the survivable multicast sessions routing problem is formulated into an Integer Linear Programming (ILP). Then, a heuristic algorithm, named the adaptive shared segment protection (ASSP) algorithm, is proposed for multicast sessions. The ASSP algorithm need not previously identify the segments for a multicast tree. The segments are determined during the algorithm process. Comparisons are made between the ASSP and two other reported schemes, link disjoint trees (LDT) and shared disjoint paths (SDP), in terms of blocking probability and resource cost on CERNET and USNET topologies. Simulations show that the ASSP algorithm has better performance than other existing schemes.

  • Quality of Service (QoS) is a critical feature of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) with routing algorithms. Data packets are moved between cluster heads with QoS using a number of energy-efficient routing techniques. However, sustaining high scalability while increasing the life of a WSN's networks scenario remains a challenging task. Thus, this research aims to develop an energy-balancing component that ensures equal energy consumption for all network sensors while offering flexible routing without congestion, even at peak hours. This research work proposes a Gravitational Blackhole Search Optimised splay tree routing framework. Based on the splay tree topology, the routing procedure is carried out by the suggested method using three distinct steps. Initially, the proposed GBSO decides the optimal route at initiation phases by choosing the root node with optimum energy in the splay tree. In the selection stage, the steps for energy update and trust update are completed by evaluating a novel reliance function utilising the Parent Reliance (PR) and Grand Parent Reliance (GPR). Finally, in the routing phase, using the fitness measure and the minimal distance, the GBSO algorithm determines the best route for data broadcast. The model results demonstrated the efficacy of the suggested technique with 99.52% packet delivery ratio, a minimum delay of 0.19 s, and a network lifetime of 1750 rounds with 200 nodes. Also, the comparative analysis ensured that the suggested algorithm surpasses the effectiveness of the existing algorithm in all aspects and guaranteed end-to-end delivery of packets.

  • Multicast Protocol for multimedia service on the Internet can be classified into two types, e.g., source based tree and shared tree according to difference of tree construction method. Shared tree based multicast is known to show outstanding results in the aspect of scalability than source based tree. Generally, There have been lots of researches on the method to satisfy QoS constraints through proper Rendezvous Point (RP) in the shared tree. In addition, as the multicast group members join and leave dynamically in the service time, RP of the shared tree should b be reselected for guranteeing Qos to new member, But, RP reselection method has not been considered generally as the solution to satisfy QoS C constraints. In this paper, new initial RP selection and RP reselection method are proposed, which utilize RTCP (Real Time Control Protocol) report packet fields. Proposed initial RP selection and RP reselection method use RTCP protocol which underlying multimedia application service So, the proposed method does not need any special process for collecting network information to calculate RP. New initial RP selection method s shows better performance than random and topology based one by 40-50% in simulation. Also, RP reselection method improves delay p performance by 50% after initial RP selection according to the member’s dynamicity.

  • The clock skew is one of the major constraints for high-speed operation of synchronous integrated circuits. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical partitioning based clock network design algorithm called Advanced Clock Tree Generation (ACTG). Especially new effective partitioning and refinement techniques have been developed in which the capacitance and edge length to each sink are considered from the early stage of clock design. Hierarchical structures obtained by parhtioning and refinement are utilized for balanced clock routing. We use zero skew routing in which Elmore delay model is used to estimate the delay. An overlap avoidance routing algorithm for clock tree generation is proposed. Experimental results show significant improvement over conventional methods.

  • This paper presents a P2P (Peer-to-Peer) overlay multicast tree construction algorithm to support stable multimedia service over the Internet. While constructing a multicast tree, it takes into account not only the link delay, but also peer stability. Since peers actually show dynamic and unstable behavior over P2P-based network, it is essential to consider peer stability. Furthermore, the weighting factor between link delay and peer stability is adaptively controlled according to the characteristics of the multicast tree. Basically, Genetic algorithm is employed to obtain a near optimal solution with low computational complexity. Finally, simulation results are provided to show the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • Abstract This paper presents a heuristic method for optimal design of water distribution system with multiple sources and potential links. In multiple source pipe network, supply rate at each source node affects the total cost of the system because supply rates are not uniquely determined. The Linear Minimum Cost Flow (LMCF) model may be used to a large scale pipe network with multiple sources to determine supply rate at each source node. In this study the heuristic method based on the LMCF is suggested to determine supply rate at each source node and then to optimize the given layout. The heuristic method in turn perturbs links in the longest path of the network to obtain the supply rates which make the optimal design of the pipe network. Once the best tree network is obtained, the frequency count of reconnecting links by considering link failure is in turn applied to form loop to enhance the reliability of the best tree network. A sample pipe network is employed to test the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method can yield a lower cost design than the LMCF alone and that the proposed method can be efficiently used to design irrigation systems or rural water distribution systems.

  • Recently, seismic Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) methods have been developed for process plants, such as gas plants, oil refineries, and chemical plants. The framework originated from the PSA of nuclear power plants, which aims to assess the risk of reactor core damage. The original PSA method was modified to adopt the characteristics of a process plant whose purpose is continuous operation without shutdown. Therefore, a fault tree, whose top event is shut down, was constructed and transformed into a Bayesian Network (BN), a probabilistic graph model, for efficient risk-informed decision-making. In this research, the fault tree-based BN from the previous research is further developed to consider the multi-hazard of earthquake-induced fire and explosion (EQ-induced F&E). For this purpose, an event tree describing the occurrence of fire and explosion from a release is first constructed and transformed into a BN. And then, this BN is connected to the previous BN model developed for seismic PSA. A virtual plot plan of a gas plant is introduced as a basis for the construction of the specific EQ-induced F&E BN to test the proposed BN framework. The paper demonstrates the method through two examples of risk-informed decision-making. In particular, the second example verifies how the proposed method can establish a repair and retrofit strategy when a shutdown occurs in a process plant.

  • In this paper, we propose virtual direction multicast (VDM) for video multicast applications on peer-to-peer overlay networks. It locates the end hosts relative to each other based on a virtualized orientation scheme using real-time measurements. It builds multicast tree by connecting the nodes, which are estimated to be in the same virtual direction. By using the concept of directionality, we target to use minimal resources in the underlying network while satisfying users' quality expectations. We compare VDM against host multicast tree protocol. We simulated the protocol in a network simulator and implemented in PlanetLab. Results both from simulation and PlanetLab implementation show that our proposed technique exhibits good performance in terms of defined metrics.
