Slip displacement is brought into focus to study the tube fretting wear that occurs on the contact by the springs. An oscillating tube was in contact with plate support springs. The contact condition was varied as normal force 5 N, and gaps of 0.1 and 0.2 mm in the experiment. The oscillation range of the tube was also varied as 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.7 mm. Formulas for predicting the slip displacement range were derived in terms of the vibration amplitudes measured during the tube oscillation. It was found that the slip displacement in transverse direction was much higher ($720{\sim}33000$ times) than that in axial one. This resulted in the severer wear on the contact suffered from transverse slip.
Thick composite laminated plates is considered in 3D finite-element. To consider continuity of transverse stresses and displacement field, mixed finite-element has been developed by using layerwise theory and the minimum potential energy principle. Mixed finite-element has been enforced through the thick direction, Z, of a laminated plate by considering six degree-of-freedoms per node. Six degree-of-freedoms are three displacement components in the coordinate axes directions and three transverse stress components ${\sigma}_z,\;{\tau}_{xz},\;{\tau}_{yz}$. The model maintain the fundamental elasticity relations that are stress-strain relation and displacement-strain relation, because the transverse stress components invoked as nodal degrees of freedom by using the fundamental elasticity relationship between th components of stress and displacement. Random vibration analysis of the model is performed by computing consistent mass matrix and computing covariance in frequency domain technique.
Studies on dynamic characteristics of the hanger vibration using field monitoring data are important for the design and evaluation of high-speed railway truss arch bridges. This paper presents an analysis of the hanger's dynamic displacement responses based on field monitoring of Dashengguan Yangtze River Bridge, which is a high-speed railway truss arch bridge with the longest span throughout the world. The three vibration parameters, i.e., dynamic displacement amplitude, dynamic load factor and vibration amplitude, are selected to investigate the hanger's vibration characteristics in each railway load case including the probability statistical characteristics and coupled vibration characteristics. The influences of carriageway and carriage number on the hanger's vibration characteristics are further investigated. The results indicate that: (1) All the eight railway load cases can be successfully identified according to the relationship of responses from strain sensors and accelerometers in the structural health monitoring system. (2) The hanger's three vibration parameters in each load case in the longitudinal and transverse directions have obvious probabilistic characteristics. However, they fall into different distribution functions. (3) There is good correlation between the hanger's longitudinal/transverse dynamic displacement and the main girder's transverse dynamic displacement in each load case, and their relationships are shown in the hysteresis curves. (4) Influences of the carriageway and carriage number on the hanger's three parameters are different in both longitudinal and transverse directions; while the influence on any of the three parameters presents an obvious statistical trend. The present paper lays a good foundation for the further analysis of train-induced hanger vibration and control.
A novel, 6-node, two-dimensional mixed finite element (FE) model has been developed to analyze laminated composite beams by using the minimum potential energy principle. The model has been formulated by considering four degrees of freedom (two displacement components u, w and two transverse stress components ${\sigma}_z$, $\tau_{xz}$) per node. The transverse stress components have been invoked as nodal degrees of freedom by using the fundamental elasticity equations. Thus, the present mixed finite element model not only ensures the continuity of transverse stress and displacement fields through the thickness of the laminated beams but also maintains the fundamental elasticity relationship between the components of stress, strain and displacement fields throughout the elastic continuum. This is an important feature of the present formulation, which has not been observed in various mixed formulations available in the literature. Results obtained from the model have been shown to be in excellent agreement with the elasticity solutions for thin as well as thick laminated composite beams. A few results for a cross-ply beam under fixed support conditions are also presented.

In this study, displacement ductility capacity and plastic hinge regions of reinforced concrete multi-column bent with different transverse reinforcement ratio are investigated. The ductility increases remarkably as transverse reinforcement ratio increase and the multi-column bent loaded along transverse direction is more ductile. The plastic hinge length for special detailing requirements of transverse reinforcement is estimated. For high target ductility, plastic hinge length for confinement should be extended with increased transverse reinforcement ratio. The plastic hinge length of multi-column bent loaded along transverse direction is shorter than that along longitudinal direction, because of the different moment distribution.
An equivalent single layer trigonometric shear deformation theory taking into account transverse shear deformation effect as well as transverse normal strain effect is presented for static flexure of cross-ply laminated composite and sandwich plates. The inplane displacement field uses sinusoidal function in terms of thickness coordinate to include the transverse shear deformation effect. The cosine function in thickness coordinate is used in transverse displacement to include the effect of transverse normal strain. The kinematics of the present theory is much richer than those of the other higher order shear deformation theories, because if the trigonometric term (involving thickness coordinate z) is expanded in power series, the kinematics of higher order theories (which are usually obtained by power series in thickness coordinate z) are implicitly taken into account to good deal of extent. Governing equations and boundary conditions of the theory are obtained using the principle of virtual work. The closed-form solutions of simply supported cross-ply laminated composite and sandwich plates have been obtained. The results of present theory are compared with those of the classical plate theory (CPT), first order shear deformation theory (FSDT), higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) of Reddy and exact three dimensional elasticity theory wherever applicable. The results predicted by present theory are in good agreement with those of higher order shear deformation theory and the elasticity theory.

The new method for evaluating the displacement tolerance of sky-bridges with pin-roller type supports was proposed considering both return period of phase difference between connected buildings and geometrical characteristics of skybridge. Because displacement tolerance is relative value, which is most affected by the phase difference of the connected buildings, the dynamic response of these building with time history analysis should be evaluated. However, the initial phase could not be specified, so the result of displacement tolerance would be varied with respect to initial value. Thus, the tolerance can be reasonably evaluated SRSS calculation with design displacements based on statistical approach and of each building. In addition, the geometrical characteristics of sky-bridge should be considered because the transverse displacement of sky-bridge span causes the shear deformation of the bridge and longitudinal displacement tolerance cannot release the shear deformation. Therefore, the some pin-end support in sky-bridge should have longitudinal displacement tolerance to accommodate the shear deformation. By resolving this shear deformation, it is possible not only to accommodate transverse displacement, but also to avoid the complicated joint details such as both pot bearing and guided supports with shear key.

The purpose of the present study is to analyze the response of pipelines subjected to liquefaction-induced permanent ground displacement and to discuss the failure prediction of domestic waterway pipelines. Initially here, characteristics of liquefaction are reviewed and then permanent ground displacement is investigated base on previous earthquake hazard cases. Next, considering the distribution of the transverse permanent ground displacement and equivalent spring constant effect, formulas obtained by a beam theory are established to analyze continuous pipelines. This analysis was performed without consideration of axial effects. So the finite element analysis was used in order to consider the axial stiffness of soil. As a result, degree of liquefaction, width of deformed ground and axial stiffness are crucial points for evaluation the failure of pipelines subjected to permanent ground displacement.
In this study, the supersonic panel flutter of doubly curved composite sandwich panels with variable thickness is considered under aerothermoelastic loading. Considering different radii of curvatures of the face sheets in this paper, the thickness of the core is a function of plane coordinates (x,y), which is unique. For the first time in the current model, the continuity conditions of the transverse shear stress, transverse normal stress and transverse normal stress gradient at the layer interfaces, as well as the conditions of zero transverse shear stresses on the upper and lower surfaces of the sandwich panel are satisfied. The formulation is based on an enhanced higher order sandwich panel theory and the vertical displacement component of the face sheets is assumed as a quadratic one, while a cubic pattern is used for the in-plane displacement components of the face sheets and the all displacement components of the core. The formulation is based on the von $K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n$ nonlinear approximation, the one-dimensional Fourier equation of the heat conduction along the thickness direction, and the first-order piston theory. The equations of motion and boundary conditions are derived using the Hamilton principle and the results are validated by the latest results published in the literature.

A higher order zig-zag plate theory is developed to refine accurately predict fully coupled of the mechanical, thermal, and electric behaviors. Both the displacement and temperature fields through the thickness are constructed by superimposing linear zig-zag field to the smooth globally cubic varying field. Smooth parabolic distribution through the thickness is assumed in the transverse deflection in order to consider transverse normal deformation. Linear zig-zag form is adopted in the electric field. The layer-dependent degrees of freedom of displacement and temperature fields are expressed in terms of reference primary degrees of freedom by applying interface continuity conditions as well as bounding surface conditions of transverse shear stresses and transverse heat flux The numerical examples of coupled and uncoupled analysis are demonstrated the accuracy and efficiency of the present theory. The present theory is suitable for the predictions of fully coupled behaviors of thick smart composite plate under mechanical, thermal, and electric loadings.
