A Design for Integrated Logistics System with Inventory Control and Transportation Planning Problem (재고와 수송계획문제를 고려한 통합물류시스템 설계)

  • In many distribution systems important cost reductions and/or service improvements may be achieved by adopting an efficient inventory policy and proper selection of facilities. These efficiency improvements and service enhancements clearly require an integrated approach towards various logistical planning functions. The areas of inventory control and transportation planning need to be closely coordinated. The purpose of this paper is to construct an integrated model that can minimize the total cost of the transportation and inventory systems between multiple origin and destination points, where in origin point i has the supply of commodities and in destination point j requires the commodities. In this case, demands of the destination points are assumed random variables which have a known probability distribution. Using the lot-size reorder-point policy and the safety stock level that minimize total cost we find optimal distribution centers which transport the commodities to the destination points and suggest an optimal inventory policy to the selected distribution center. We also show if a demand greater than one unit will occur at a particular time, we describe the approximate optional replenishment policy from computational results of this lot-size reorder-point policy. This model is formulated as a 0-1 nonlinear integer programming problem. To solve the problem, this paper proposes heuristic computational procedures and a computer program with UNIX C language. In the usefulness review, we show the meaning and validity of the proposed model and exhibit the results of a comparison between our approach and the traditional approach, respectively.

  • An operational strategy for inventory control on finished goods in the distribution system has been given attention to many enterprises and many studies regarding this field have been done and is also on-going currently. Many of these studies represented a large scale distribution network with a unified formulation by using defined symbols. These methods have provided the systematic approach of the distribution network but they are impossible to applying the reality system due to not considering the service rate of demand and treating the shortage of inventory. In order to overcome these unrealistic problems, the novel safety stock policy of responding to customers' inventory distribution network is suggested. this paper explores the transportation between Central Distribution Center(CDC) and Regional Distribution Center(RDC). Especially, the relation of transportation cost between CDC and RDC and cost of inventory control according to safety inventory with service level are emphasized. We could obtain the good results of this study by determining the optimal safety stock considering the various variables and constraints.

  • In today's competitive environment, supply chain management is a major concern for a company. Two of the key issues in supply chain management are transportation and inventory management. To achieve significant savings, companies should integrate these two issues instead of treating them separately. In this paper we develop a framework for modeling stochastic programming in a supply chain that is subject to demand uncertainty. With reasonable assumptions, two stochastic programming models are presented, respectively, including a single-period and a multi-period situations. Our assumptions allow us to capture the stochastic nature of the problem and translate it into a deterministic model. And then, based on the genetic algorithm and stochastic simulation, a solution method is developed to solve the model. Finally, the computational results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our model and algorithm.

  • This paper develops an analytic model for minimizing the cost of distributing items by truck from one supplier to many customers under Milk run logistics strategy. The model derives formulas for not only inventory and transportation costs but also costs associated with carbon emission trading scheme. In addition, monetary investment for reducing carbon emissions is considered. We analyze how to determine optimal shipment size and carbon emission reduction investment. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the effects of carbon emission trading scheme on the Milk run logistics strategy in terms of how much to reduce carbon emissions and/or inventory and transportation costs. We analytically show that it is possible to reduce carbon emissions while reducing inventory and transportation costs by introducing cap-and-trade carbon emission trading scheme under certain conditions.

A Study on the Outbound Logistics Network Rationalization of Domestic Automobile Industry (국내 완성차 물류 네트워크 합리화 방안 연구)

  • Many of logistics-related research in automobile industry has focused on inbound logistics and procurement. Research into outbound logistics is relatively few. As a starting research into outbound logistics in automobile industry, this paper examined its logistics network problems with three aspects - location strategy, inventory strategy and transportation strategy. We proposed alternatives of logistics network design resolution, and presented three practical scenarios based on those alternatives. Based on interview, on-site visit and internal data collection processes, we identified major domestic outbound logistics problems such as redundant logistics bases, inefficient delivery policy, insufficient inventory capacity, inventory stock quality deterioration, inefficient transportation system, and etc. In order to cope with those problems, we proposed such strategic alternatives as introduction of hub-and-spoke system, integration of logistics bases, introduction of (automatic) parking building, diversification of transportation mode, and etc. At the same time, we constructed three practically executable scenarios based on those ideas. The first is "Center Hub" scenario, the second is "Metropolitan Hub" scenario. The third and last scenario is "Regional Consolidation of Warehouses (distribution centers)".

  • This paper considers an integrated inventory-distribution system with a fleet of heterogeneous vehicles employed where a single warehouse distributes a single type of products to many spatially distributed retailers to satisfy their dynamic demands and the product is provided to the warehouse via procurement ordering from any manufacturing plant or market The Problem is formulated as an Mixed Integer Programming with the objective function of minimizing the sum of inventory holding cost (at the warehouse and retailers), and transportation cost and procurement ordering cost at the warehouse, subject to inventory-balancing constraints, ordering constraints, vehicle capacity constraints and transportation time constraints. The problem is Proven to be NP-hard. Accordingly, a Lagrangean heuristic procedure is derived and tested for its effectiveness through computational experiments with some numerical instances.

  • The construction of the transportation history database system is to serve the scheduling and seat inventory controling. Recently, lots of countries have been faced with the advance era because of the new railway transportation system, like the high speed railway and/or magnetic levitation vehicle system. This can be reasonably translated as those of operators are willing to provide the more various and high quality schedule to the customer. Those operators' these ideas make possible to forecast that scheduling process is going to be complicated more and more The seat inventory control, so to speak Yield Management System(YMS), goes a long way to improve the total passenger revenue at the railway business. The YMS forecasts the number of the last reservation value(DCP# END) and recommends the optimal values on the seat sales. The history database system contains infra-data(ie, train, seat, sales) that will be the foundation of scheduling and seat inventory control application programs. The development of the application programs are reserved to the next step. The database system is installed on the pc platform(IBM compatible), using the DB2(RDBMS). And at next step, the platform and DBMS will be considered whether they can meet the users' requirement or not.

  • Rapid globalization of production and marketing functions makes choice of international transportation mode of great importance. In this paper, transportation mode is characterized by two factors, mean and variability of transportation lead time. We developed a simple mathematical model to estimate the relative impact of mean lead time, lead time variance and demand variance on the required average inventory level under specified service rates.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine optimal transportation routes through the comparison of Korean - European transportation routes of automotive parts and to suggest information that can be utilized in Korea - Europe trade activities or trade route selection by establishing multipath. This study analyzed the direct transportation cost, inventory cost, and warehouse inventory cost of the sea and TSR / TCR railroad transport based on characteristics of automotive parts logistics and multimodal transportation. Also, this study identifies the most effective transportation route from the viewpoint of total logistics cost. In addition to the economic factors, we conducted an in-depth analysis through interviews with corporate executives to identify the importance of the factors with the behavioral factors, and the reliability was further secured through interviews. Through this study, it is possible to understand various aspects of international logistics by analyzing the factors of transportation choice in terms of economic and behavioral perspectives concurrently by differentiating from existing research.
