Analysis of PLR for Shared Switch Fabrics

  • A modular upgrade design for packet transport switch nodes is presented where packet loss is dramatically reduced by intra-module and inter-module buffer sharing. This modular design offers significant cost and power reduction in a high-data-rate system where buffers are highly costly and power-greedy.

  • In this study, we aim to develop energy efficient walking and running robot with compliant leg. So, we propose the energy efficient locomotion control method. And, we experiment the proposed control method applying to the experimental robot with compliant leg. From the experiment, we look at whether the proposed control method can the robot walk and run energy efficiently.

  • Great impetus has come from the renewed emphasis on improving public transport in many countries. In Korea, built over 12 years at a cost of ${\$}12$ billion and modeled on the TGV of France, the Korea Train Express will open for regular traffic on April, 2004. The schematic design of terminal building for Kwang-Myeong station was chosen by the international competition in 1997. Mooyoung Architects and Engineers joined with AREP, French Architect awarded.

  • Photonic switching systems with throughput above Tbit/s are reuried to transport vast amounts of information for the coming B-ISDN. In this paper, we proposed a new time-division hybrid WDM photonic swithc architecture, the proposed basic switch module has simple configuratin consisted of frequency routers for wavelength division and cell coders and star couplers for time division. Through the comparison with other sysems in field of switching capacity, hardware complexity and cost effect of implemetnation, we proved that the proposed system is suitable for large-capacity photonic switching system.

  • The Korean government has made efforts to establish ITS (Intelligent Transport System) strategic plans and to implement ITS. Commercial Vehicle Operation (CVO) has been developed in Korea as one of five subsystems in ITS and also in the context of Integrated Logistics Information Systems (ILIS). A low-level strategic plan of CVO is fixed on October, 1997, which has two subsystems and six major services. In this paper, services, requirements and information technologies for CVO are introduced as well as operational tests, deployment cases and cost-effectiveness.

  • Generally scheduling papers focused on the processing time only. But this paper intend to develope the scheduling problem which deal with the precessing time, transport time between machine and processing cost in a flexible manufacturing system(FMS) simultaneously. And this work considers a releasing, loading and alternative routing problem together. As a case study, numerical example is demonstrated to show the simplicity and the effectiveness of the proposed model.

  • In the train schedule plan corresponds to a master plan for transport services. This service plan must be constructed to minimize operational cost or maximize revenue considering transportation demands and resource capacities in the operation company, and it includes several sub-planning activities such as train operation frequency plan, train schedule plan, train capacity assignment plan, and rolling stock requirement plan. In this paper, we present profitability evaluation system for the current train schedule plan. The proposed system can be used for evaluating profitability by estimating train service revenue considering customer demands.

  • Light-rail transit system has many characteristics of better accessibility. frequency service, low construction cost, reduced air pollution and medium-capacity public transport etc. Light rail transit system as a urban transportation system has been growing worldwide since the late 20th century. More than 300 cities around the world have light railway systems. Many medium-size cities in domestic site is planning the construction of light railway. This paper describes the development strategies for the light rail transit industry.

Using Waste Foundry Sands as Reactive Media in Permeable Reactive Barriers

  • Permeable reactive barriers (PRBs) are in-situ barriers constructed in a subsurface to treat contaminated groundwater using various reactive media. The common reactive medium used in PRB is zero-valent iron, which has been widely used to treat chlorinated solvents (i.e., PCE, TCE). A disadvantage of iron media is high cost. In this study, waste foundry sands were tested to determine the feasibility of their use as a low cost reactive medium. Batch and column tests were conducted with TCE to determine transport parameters and reactivity of the foundry sands. The reactivities of foundry sands for common groundwater contaminants are comparable to or slightly higher than those for Peerless iron, a common medium used in PRBs. In addition, the TOC and clay in foundry sands can significantly retard the movement of target contaminant, which may result in lower effluent concentration of contaminant due to biodegradation. In general, PRBs 1-m thick can be constructed with many foundry sands to treat TCE provided the zero-valent iron content in the foundry sand is higher than 1%.
