Dye-sensitized solar cell(DSSC) has aroused intense interest owing to its competitive price and stabilized properties than Si based solar cells. Recently, many studies have been reported on the DSSC, especially development of a transparent conductive oxide-less dye-sensitized solar cell(TCO-less DSSC). In this paper, a thick and porous Ti electrode for low cost DSSC developed its properties. To estimate the Ti electrode, the films are tested FESEM and J-V evaluation method. An increase in Ti thickness from 50 nm to 200 nm mainly affects the fill factor without noticeably changing the photocurrent density. It was confirmed that optimal DSSC efficiency was obtained at Ti 150 nm.
Some of factors affecting photo-conversion efficiency of dye sensitized solar cells (DSCs) are discussed in terms of $TiO_2$ electrodes. The first topic is on the surface modification of $TiO_2$ nano-particles, which is associated with electron traps on the surface of $TiO_2$ nano-particles. The surface is modified with dye molecules under pressurized $CO_2$ atmosphere to increase the surface coverage of $TiO_2$ nano-particles with dye molecules. This increases Jsc because of an increase in the amount of dye molecules and a decrease in the amount of trapping sites on $TiO_2$ nano-particles. In addition, the decrease in the amount of trap sites increases Voc because decreases in Voc are brought about by the recombination of $I_2$ molecules with electrons trapped on the $TiO_2$ surfaces. Selective staining for tandem cells is proposed. The second topic is on the contact between a $SnO_2$/F transparent conductive layer (TCL) and nano-particles. Polishing the TCL surfaces with silica nano-particles increases the contact, resulting in Jsc increases. The third topic is the fabrication of ion-paths in $TiO_2$ layers. Electro-spray coating of $TiO_2$ nano-particles onto TCL is shown to be effective for fabricating ion-paths in $TiO_2$ layers, which increases Jsc.
Au/PDMS membranes are widely used to fabricate strain sensors which can detect input signals. An interfacial adhesion between metal films and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrates is one of the important factors determining the performance of strain sensors, in terms of robustness, reliability, and sensitivity. Here, we fabricate Au/PDMS membranes with (3-mercaptopropyl) trimethoxysilane (MPTMS) treatment. PDMS membranes were fabricated by spin-coating and the thickness was controlled by varying the spin rates. Au electrodes were deposited on the PDMS membrane by metal sputtering and the thickness was controlled by varying sputtering time. Owing to the MPTMS treatment, the interfacial adhesion between the Au electrode and the PDMS membrane was strengthened and the membrane was highly transparent. The Au electrode, fabricated with a sputtering time of 50 s, had the highest gauge factor at a maximum strain of ~0.7%, and the Au electrode fabricated with a sputtering time of 60 s had the maximum strain range among sputtering times of 50, 60, and 120 s. Our technique of using Au/PDMS with MPTMS treatment could be applied to the fabrication of strain sensors.

This paper reports the enhanced fabrication and characterization of a $3{\times}3$ array tactile actuator composed of cellulose acetate. The array tactile actuator, with dimensions of $15{\times}15{\times}1mm^3$, consists of 9 pillar-supported cells made from a cellulose-acetate molding. The fabrication process and performance test along with the results for the suggested actuator are explained. To improve the cell-array fabrication, a laser cut was adopted after the molding process. The displacement of the unit cell increased the input voltage and frequency. Various top masses are added onto the actuator to mimic the touch force, and the acceleration of the actuator is measured under actuation. When 2 kV is applied to the actuator, the maximum acceleration is 0.64 g, which is above the vibrotactile threshold. The actuation mechanism is associated with the electrostatic force between the top and bottom electrodes.

In this work, the electrical and optical properties of the two different p-type GaN electrode schemes, ZnNi/ITO and ZnNi/Au, were compared each other, and applied to the top-emitting GaN/InGaN light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The ZnNi/ITO electrode showed much higher transmittance (90%) and slightly lower contact resistance $(1.27{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}cm^2)$ than those (77%, $(2.26{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}cm^2)$) of the ZnNi/Au at a wavelength of 460 nm. In addition, GaN LEDs having ZnNi/ITO showed accordingly higher light output power and luminous intensity than those having ZnNI/Au did at the current levels up to 1 A.

This is a brief review on light trapping in Si based thin film solar cells with textured surfaces and transparent conducting oxide front electrodes. The light trapping scheme appears to be essential in improving device efficiency over 10%. As light absorption in a thin film solar cells is not sufficient, light trapping becomes necessary to be effectively implemented with a textured surface. Surface texturing helps in the light trapping, and thereby raises short circuit current density and its efficiency. Such a scheme can be adapted to single junction as well as tandem solar cell, amorphous or micro-crystalline devices. A tandem cell is expected to have superior performance in comparison to a single junction cell and random surface textures appears to be preferable to a periodic structures.

Early detection of infiltration is one of the most important tasks of nurses to minimize skin damage due to infiltration. For subjects receiving invasive intravenous treatment, the bioelectrical impedance (impedance) were measured in the frequency range of 5 to 500 kHz using bioelectrical impedance spectroscopy (BIS). After attaching electrodes at both ends of a transparent dressing mounted on the skin in which IV solution was infused into the vein, the change in impedance was measured as a function of time and frequency before and after infiltration. The experimental results are described as follows. When IV solution was properly infused into the vein, the impedance was nearly constant over time and decreased with increasing frequency. However, when infiltration occurred, the impedance decreased significantly and thereafter gradually decreased with time. In addition, impedance decreased with time for all applied frequencies. In this study, when IV solution penetrated into the surrounding skin and subcutaneous tissue by infiltration, impedance was quantitatively analyzed for as a function of time and frequency. This suggests a method for early detection of infiltration using BIS.

For the evaluation of the plasma display panel (PDP)'s noise, vibration and sound characteristics of fanless PDP are measured and investigated. PDP is a type of two-electrode vacuum tube which operates on the same principle as a household fluorescent light. An inert gas such as argon or neon is injected between two glass plates on which transparent electrodes have been formed, and the glass is illuminated by generating discharge. For this discharge, both high voltage and currents are needed and cause an acoustic noise. We investigated the noise characteristics connected with both a electromagnetic elements from SMPS to panel through X, Y and logic board, and a mechanical elements form panel to case through transfer path which related with vibration and heat. To reduce the noise of PDP, a discharge pulse memory design related with both higher brightness and lower power consumption is important and mechanical characteristics connected with dissipation process of both heat and vibration generated by panel discharge must be investigated.

In order to increase the efficiency of LED, transparent electrodes should be also developed. also suitable anti-reflection coating (ARC) is necessary for practical device applications. In our paper, Al-doped ZnO (AZO) films were fabricated by sputtering on GaP substrate(wavelength:620nm). Choosing optimum substrate temperature and sputtering rate, high quality AZO films were formed. We confirmed that the surface and electrical properties, which implemented using the methods of AFM, Hall measurement. The properties of AZO thin films especially depended on the thickness. We presumed that the change of the increase the external quantum efficiency of LED according to the AZO thin film of thickness.
