  • $TiO_2$ films prepared by RF magnetron sputtering, electron beam evaporation, ion assisted deposition (IAD) and sol-gel method are prepared on c-Si substrate and vitreous silica substrate respectively. From the transmission spectra of $TiO_2$ films on vitreous silica substrate in the spectral region from 190 nm to 900 nm, k($\lambda$) of $TiO_2$ is obtained. Using k($\lambda$) in the interband transition region the coefficients of the quantum mechanical dispersion relation of an amorphous $TiO_2$ and hence n($\lambda$) including the optically opaque region of above fundamental transition energy are obtained. The spectroscopic ellipsometry spectra of $TiO_2$ films in the spectral region of 1.5-5.0eV are model analyzed to get the film packing density variation versus i) substrate material, ii) film thickness and iii) film growth technique. The complex refractive index change of these $TiO_2$ films versus water condensation is also studied. Film micro-structures by SE modelling results are compared with those by atomic force microscopy images and X-ray diffraction data.

  • The wave interaction with flexible membrane such as PVC and PU fabrics is studied to prove its applicability to portable breakwaters. To analyze the wave deformation due to the flexible membrane. eigen-function expansion method is employed. The fluid domain is seperated into two regions. The velocity potential in each regions and the deformation of membrane are coupled by the body boundary conditions. Herein the deformation of membrane is obtained by solving the membrane equation. As a numerical example, transmission and reflection coefficients according to the change of several design parameters such as tensile force. mooring line stiffness and membrane height are investigated. It is found that the efficiency of flexible membrane breakwater is significantly affected by these design parameters. The angle of incident wave is an important role to the performance of breakwater. Finally we conclude that flexible membrane can be used to engineering material for the future breakwaters.

  • To reduce the complexity of video transcoder, transcoding techniques generally use intermediate data such as macroblock types, motion vectors, DCT coefficients, which are extracted from incoming video bitstream. In this Paper, we Propose a new adaptive INTRA update scheme utilizing the importance of each macroblock in a given frame. The importance measure is calculated from the motion vectors which are extracted from the decoding procedure of a incomming video data.'rho ratio of the macroblock to be referred by the next frame is calculated by the motion vectors of the next frame and the macroblocks to be refered higher ratio has more effect on the next frame and the followed frames. The proposed scheme can obtain transcoded bitstreams which has better image quality and more improved resilience against transmission errors.

  • In this paper, We proposed extraction method using EZW a specific character and then add watermark significant coefficient of image. After wavelet transform in image, the significant coefficient value add to watermark information image. In this method, the locations of nonzero wavelet coefficients are encoded with a tree structure, called zerotree, which can exploit the self-similarity of the pyramid decomposition across different scales. The simulation shows that this method provides a superior performance over conventional method and can be successfully applied to the application areas that requires of progressive transmission and search for image data.

  • Bragg reflection of water waves by three kinds of surface-piercing fixed structures with rectangular, cosinoidal and triangular shapes is studied. Boundary element method is used to analyze the wave scattering by these structures based on the linear wave theory. Results of reflection and transmission coefficients are validated by comparing with those available in literature. These structures with proper configurations are proved to be effective in attenuating waves by using Bragg reflection, and the triangular structures are found to be the best choices among the structures with same width and same area. Systematic calculations are then carried out for the triangular structures by varying the number, the draft, the width, the gap and the combination of width and gap of the structures to analyze their influences on the characteristics of Bragg reflection. The results are of reference values for design of the structures to attenuate waves based on the Bragg reflection.

  • The dispersion hardened $Cu-TiB_2$ composites are a promising candidate for applications as electrical contact materials. The $Cu-TiB_2$ composites for electrical contact materials can reduce material cost and resource consumption caused by wear, due to their good mechanical and electrical properties. In this study, we investigated the wear phenomenon for $Cu-TiB_2$ composites fabricated with hot extrusion, by varying particle sizes and volume fractions of $TiB_2$. The wear tests were performed under the dry sliding condition with a fixed total sliding distance of 40 m. The contact loads at a constant speed of 3.5 Hz were 20, 40, 60, and 80 N. The friction coefficients and wear losses were measured during wear tests. Worn surfaces and wear debris after wear tests were investigated using the scanning electron microscope and the optical microscope. The microstructures of interface between Cu matrix and $TiB_2$ particle before and after wear tests were studied by the transmission electron microscope.

  • Complex permittivity of dry sand is measured by using an open-ended coaxial probe, which was self-designed and manufactured. As a simple calibration scheme of the probe, the phase difference between the measured and the calculated reflection coefficients of pure water is subtracted from the phase of the measured reflection coefficient for dry sand. And then the complex permittivity of dry sand is reconstructed by applying its measured reflection coefficient into an improved imaginary transmission-line model. The accuracy of our measurement scheme is verified by showing that its reconstructed complex permittivity approaches the precise value of dry sand.

  • This paper proposes the mathematical model of Fresnel effect used to illuminate and simulate a surface character model for defense game play. The term illumination is used to represent the process by which the amount of light reaching a surface character model used on game play is determined. The character surface shaders generally use a mathematical model to predict how light will reflect on triangles. The shading normally represents the methods used to determine the color and intensity of light reflected toward the viewer for each pixel representing the character surface model of the game. This model computes the reflection and transmission coefficients and compares simulated results to the Fresnel equations for the real game improvement.

  • In this study we present a new improved nonlinear calibration method for vector magnetograms made by the Solar Flare Telescope of BOAO. To identify Fe I 6302.5 line, we have scanned monochromatic images of the line integrated over filter passband, changing the location of the central transmission wavelength of a Lyot filter. Then we obtained a filter-convolved line profile, which is in good agreement with spectral atlas data provided by the Sacramento Peak Solar Observatory. The line profile has been used to derive calibration coefficients of longitudinal and transverse fields, employing the conventional line slope method under the weak field approximation. Our improved nonlinear calibration method has also been used to calculate theoretical Stokes polarization signals with various angles of inclination of magnetic fields. For its numerical test, we have compared input magnetic fields with the calibrated ones, which have been derived from the new improved non-linear method and the conventional method respectively. The numerical test shows that the calibrated fields obtained from the improved method are consistent with the input fields, but not with those from the conventional method. Finally, we applied our new improved method to a dipole model which characterizes a typical field configuration of a single, round sunspot. It is noted that the conventional method remarkably underestimates the transverse field component near the inner penumbra.

  • The Korean government plans to establish large-scale horticultural facilities using reclaimed land to improve the competitiveness of the national agricultural sector at the government level. One of the most significant corresponding problems is the ongoing dependence of these facilities on fossil fuel, whereby constant heating is necessary during the winter season to provide the necessary breeding conditions for greenhouse crops. In particular, high-level energy consumption is incurred from the use of heating-related coverings with large heat-transmission coefficients such as those composed of vinyl and glass. This study investigated the potential applicability of waste-incineration heat for use in large-scale horticultural facilities by evaluating the hot-water temperature, heat loss, and available greenhouse area as functions of the distance between the incineration facility and the greenhouse. In conclusion, waste-incineration heat from a HDPE pipe can heat a horticultural facility of 10 ha if the distance is less than 8 km.
