In this paper, it is shown that the dominant errors of baro-altimeters can be characterized by bias and scale factor errors. Also an optimal filter for estimating both bias and scale factor is derived based on the concept of model transition. The optimal filter is, however, not realizable because the model transition hypotheses increase exponentially. Therefore a realizable suboptimal filter using the interacting multiple model(IMM) technique is proposed. Computer simulation results show that the estimation errors of the proposed filter are smaller than those of the conventional least squares algorithm with a forgetting factor when both the bias and the scale factor are varying.
This study aims to present a conceptual model for technology valuation based on market approach. We first propose a transition model in which technology itself is endowed with its intrinsic value based on its technology- and market-specific features, which subsequently goes through a transition to the market perceived value. We also discuss the model's logical validity. Based upon the transition model, we develop market approach based technology valuation models by identifying factors comprising each component of the transition model for each case of fixed royalty and running royalty. We also show that the proposed model can be used to describe the relationship between cost, income and market approaches for technology valuation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and test a model to explain the transition state for Korean middle-aged women focusing on the transition concept. Method: A hypothetical model was constructed based on the transition model of Schumacher & Meleis(1994) and tested. Thehypothetical model consisted of 5 latent variables and 11 observed variables. Exogenous variables were demographic characteristics, obstetric characteristics, and health behavior. Endogenous variables were transition state and quality of life with 6 paths. The data from 221 middle-aged women selected by convenience was analyzed using covariance structure analysis. Result: The final model which was modified from the hypotheticalmodel improved to GFI=0.97, AGFI=0.94, NFI=0.94, and NNFI=0.95. The transition state was influenced directly by demographic characteristics, quality of life, and also indirectly by health behaviors. However, the influence of obstetric characteristics was not significant. The transition state was accountable for 68% of the variance by these factors. Conclusion: These results suggest that enhancing health behaviors of the women are necessary to increase quality of life and it consequently contributes toimproving the transition state. This model could be used to explain the health related vulnerability in these ages and to diagnosis individual women.
When high waves and storm surge strike simultaneously, the characteristics of the fluid field change drastically from overtopping according to the wave runup height to overflow through a transition state that combines overtopping and overflows. However, an estimation model or evaluation method has not yet been established because there is not enough engineering data. This study developed a wave overtopping-overflow transition model based on a full-scale experiment involving wave overtopping and overflow transition, which appropriately reproduced the effect of waves or the temporal change in inundation flow. Using this model to perform a calculation for the wave overtopping and overflow transition process under typical circumstances, this study determined the wave runup height and features of the inundation flow under time series changes as an example.
Characterization of wind flows over a complex terrain, especially mountain-gorge terrain (referred to as the very complex terrain with rolling mountains and deep narrow gorges), is an important issue for design and operation of long-span bridges constructed in this area. In both wind tunnel testing and numerical simulation, a transition section is often used to connect the wind tunnel floor or computational domain bottom and the boundary top of the terrain model in order to generate a smooth flow transition over the edge of the terrain model. Although the transition section plays an important role in simulation of wind field over complex terrain, an appropriate shape needs investigation. In this study, two principles for selecting an appropriate shape of boundary transition section were proposed, and a theoretical curve serving for the mountain-gorge terrain model was derived based on potential flow theory around a circular cylinder. Then a two-dimensional (2-D) simulation was used to compare the flow transition performance between the proposed curved transition section and the traditional ramp transition section in a wind tunnel. Furthermore, the wind velocity field induced by the curved transition section with an equivalent slope of $30^{\circ}$ was investigated in detail, and a parameter called the 'velocity stability factor' was defined; an analytical model for predicting the velocity stability factor was also proposed. The results show that the proposed curved transition section has a better flow transition performance compared with the traditional ramp transition section. The proposed analytical model can also adequately predict the velocity stability factor of the wind field.

Effects of inflow Reynolds number (Re), turbulence intensity (I) and pressure gradient on the transition flow over a blade section were studied using the ${\gamma}-Re{\theta}$ transition model (STAR-CCM+). Results show that the $Re_T$ (transition Re) at the transition location ($P_T$) varies strongly with Re, I and the magnitude of pressure gradient. The $Re_T$ increases significantly with the increase of the magnitude of favorable pressure gradient. It demonstrates that the $Re_T$ on different blade sections of a rotating propeller are different. More importantly, when there is strong adverse pressure gradient, the $P_T$ is always close to the minimum pressure point. Based on these conclusions, the $P_T$ on model propeller blade surface can be estimated. Numerical investigations of pressure distribution and transition flow on a propeller blade section prove these findings. Last, a simple method was proposed to estimate the $P_T$ only based on the propeller geometry and the advance coefficient.
A concentration change during grade transition operation in thin slab casting is investigated through computer simulation and the results are compared with experimental measurements. Fluid flow and mixing patterns in various tundish levers and flow rates were analysed by a three-dimensional mathematical model. Based on the contained results, a simple, efficient and accurate computational model is suggested to predict the concentration profile at the outlet of the tundish. Based on the model, mixing in and below the mold was analyzed considering electromagnetic braking force. The predicted concentration profiles show good agreements with the measured values. It is found that the lower vortices in the mold are suppressed by the electromagnetic field and a plug-like flow region develops, which decreases the intermixing of two different grades of steel and shortens the length of transition region.
Two-dimensional prediction capability of several analysis codes, such as XFOIL, MSES, and KFLOW, is compared and analyzed based on computational results of airfoil flows. To this end the transition transport equations are coupled with the Navier-Stokes equations for the prediction of the natural transition and the separation-induced transition. Experimental data of aerodynamic coefficients are used for comparison with numerical results for the transitional flows. Numerical predictions using the transition transport model show a good agreement with experimental data. Discrepancies have been found in the prediction of the pressure drag are mainly caused by the difference in the far-field circulation correction methods.
In this paper, we report our successful implementation of Q tensor model in threedimensional finite element method (FEM) simulator. The 3D-FEM Q tensor-model-based simulation revealed that the spaly-to-bend transition occurs only at 4 V while the vector-model based FEM solver provides an erroneous transition voltage of 8 V.

In the real system application, the interacting multiple model (IMM) based algorithm requires less computing resources as well as a good performance with respect to the various target maneuverings. And it further requires an easy design procedure in terms of its structures and parameters. To solve these problems, a fuzzy interacting multiple model (FIMM) algorithm, which is based on the basis sub-models defined by considering the maneuvering property and the time-varying mode transition probabilities designed by using the mode probabilities as inputs of a fuzzy decision maker, is proposed. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, airborne target tracking is performed. Simulation results show that the FIMM algorithm solves all problems in the real system application of the IMM based algorithm.
