An oscillatory motion of natural convection in a two-dimensional square enclosure fitted with a horizontal partition is investigated numerically. The enclosure was composed of the lower hot and the upper cold horizontal walls and the adiabatic vertical walls, and a partition was positioned perpendicularly at the mid-height of one vertical insulated wall. The governing equations are solved by using the finite element method with Galerkin method. The computations were carried out with the variations of the partition length and Rayleigh number based on the temperature difference between two horizontal walls and the enclosure height with water(Pr=4.95). As the results, an oscillatory motion of natural convection has perfectly shown the periodicity with the decrease of Rayleigh number, and the stability was reduced to a chaotic state with the increase of Rayleigh number. The period of oscillation gets shorten with the decrease of the partition length and the increase of Rayleigh number. The frequency of oscillation obtained by the variations of stream function is more similar to the experimental results than that of the average Nusselt number. The stability of oscillation grows worse with the increase of Rayleigh number. The transition Rayleigh number for the chaos is gradually decreased with the increase of the partition length.
This study was designed to present a river model with an aim at restoring the ecosystem and improving the landscape along the urban rivers on the basin of the Namhan river, a core life channel for the National Capital region. The revelation of botanical status, transition trend and correlation of plants might lead to providing the urban river restoration projects and ecological river formation projects with basic data for a model of ideal aquatic ecology and landscape. The outcomes of this study could be summed up as follows: 1. Communities of Juglans mandshurica, Cornus controversa and Fraxinus mandshurica constitute the main portion of flora at or around uppermost branch streams of the River Namhanis harbored mainly in and around small brooks 2. Typical terrestrial forest communities formed around the River Namhan are composed mainly of Larix leptolepis, Pinus rigida, planned forestation of Pinus koraiensis, Quercus acutissima, Quercus variabilis and Pinus densiflora. 3. The analysis into terrestrial environment of plant communities showed a high content of $P_2O_5$, typical communities found in the artificially disturbed land Finally, it seems also desirable to continue to make every exertion to explore the relationship between fluvial and terrestrial ecologies with a purport of building up a model of natural streams in urban area based on the surveyed factors for plant life, forest communities, soil and landscape and, moreover, on the forecasting for overall influences derived from the relation upon the ecosystem.
Previous simulations posed a problem that they used reduced ion to electron mass ratios to save computation time. It was assumed that ion and electron dynamics are sufficiently separated, but it was not clearly verified. In this study, we examine the effect of ion to electron mass ratios on the generation of ion holes by ion beam driven instability. Ion holes are generated via electron holes in an applied electric field with the given initial condition. First, the ion acoustic instability is excited and nonlinearly develops. After the ion acoustic instability nonlinearly develops, the ion two-stream instability is excited and develops into ion holes. This implies that the previously suggested ion beam driven instability is strongly affected by the coupling between ions and electrons and the ion to electron mass ratio is important on the development of the instability. The energy transition and detail variation is different as reduced mass ratio under the same observation value based on FAST satellite. Although, the parameters are rescaled by conserving the kinetic energy to obtain the proper results, the nonlinear evolution is not perfectly identical.
The complex, unsteady, self-sustained pressure oscillations induced by supersonic flow past a rectangular cavity is investigated using numerical simulations. The present numerical study is performed using a parallel, multiblock solver for the two-dimensional, compressible NavierStokes equations. Open cavities with length-to-depth (L / D) ratio in the range 0.5 - 3.3 are considered. This paper sheds light on the cavity physics, cavity oscillatory mechanism, and the organisation of vortical structures inside the cavity. The vortex shedding phenomenon, the shear layer impingement event at the aft wall and the movement of the acoustic/compression wave within the cavity are well predicted. The vortical structures· and the source of the acoustic disturbances are found to be located near the aft wall of the cavity. With the increase in the cavity length, strong recompression of the flow near the aft wall leading to a sudden jump in the cavity form drag is observed. The estimated cavity tones are in good agreement with the available semiempirical relation. Multiple peaks are noticed in deep and long cavities. For the present freestream Mach number 1.71, it is observed that around L/D=2.0, the cavity oscillatory mechanism changes from the transverse to longitudinal oscillatory mode. The effects of this transition on various fluid dynamics and acoustic properties are also discussed.

The influence of unsteady wake on the flow and heat transfer characteristics in a four-vane linear cascade was experimentally investigated. The unsteady wake was generated with four rotating rectangular plates located upstream of the cascade. Tested inlet Reynolds number based on chord length was set to 66,000 by controlling free-stream velocity. A hot-wire anemometer system was employed to measure turbulent velocity components. For the convective heat transfer coefficients measurement on turbine blade surface, thermochromic liquid crystal and gold film Intrex were used. It was found that the unsteady wake enhances the turbulent motion in the cascade passage and accordingly promotes the development and transition of boundary layer. It was found that the heat transfer coefficients on the blade surface increase as the plate rotating speed increases. However, the increasing of heat transfer coefficients is not significant in the case that Strouhal number is higher than 0.503.

Buoyancy-assisted melting of an unconstrained ice in an isothermally heated horizontal enclosure was numerically analyzed in a range of wall temperatures encompassing the density inversion point. The problem as posed here involves two physically distinct domains each of which has its own scales and respective heat transfer mode. These two domains join at the junction where the liquid squeezed out of the film region flushes into the lower melt pool. Both of these domains have been treated separately in the literature by a patching technique which invokes several, otherwise unnecessary, assumptions. The present study eliminates successfully such a superfluous procedure by treating the film and lower melt pool regions as a single domain. As a result of this efficient solution procedure, the interaction of the water stream ejected at the junction and the natural convection in the melt pool could be clarified for different wall temperatures. Though limited by two-dimensionality, the present results conformed indirectly the earlier reported transition of the flow pattern, as the wall temperature was increased over the density inversion point. The transient evolution of the melting surface, the time rate of change in melt volume fraction, the local and temporal variation of the heat transfer coefficients are analyzed and presented.
In this study, the breakup characteristics of mono disperse droplets were studied with various fuels, ethanol, diesel fuel, biodiesel fuel extracted from soybean oil, and pure water. In order to investigate the droplet behavior in air cross-flow conditions, the experimental equipment was composed of a droplet generator with an air nozzle, and a high-magnification photo detecting system. Droplets produced by the droplet generator were injected into the air stream flowing normal to a direction of liquid drop jet. Digital images of the droplet behavior in air flow field were recorded by controlling the air flow rate. From the inspections, droplet breakup mechanism is primarily classified into the two kinds of stage, first breakup stage and second breakup stage. At the first breakup stage, droplet deformation rate seems to be affected by the force induced by the surface tension and the viscosity. On the other hand, at the second breakup stage, droplet is broken up mainly induced by the surface tension, so the breakup transition can be divided by the regular Weber number.

An experimental study Is conducted in a four-vane linear cascade in order to examine the influence of the wake behind rectangular bars on the flow and heat transfer characteristics. Flow and heat transfer measurements are made for the inlet Reynolds number of 66000(based on chord length and free-stream velocity). Turbulent intensity and stress are measured using a hot-wire anemometer, and to measure the convective heat transfer coefficients on the blade surface liquid crystal/gold film Intrex technique is used. Each of experimental cases is characterized by the unsteadiness measured at the entrance of the cascade. The wake behind the rectangular bars enhances the turbulent motion of the flow in the cascade passage. It also promotes the boundary layer development and transition. The results show that heat transfer coefficients on the blade surface increase with increasing unsteadiness.

Laminar and turbulent boundary layers on a rotating sector and a helical blade are calculated by differential method. The estimation of three dimensional viscous flows provide quite useful informations for the design of propellers and turbo-machinery. A general method of calculation is presented in this paper. Calculated laminar boundary layer on a sector shows smooth development of flows from Blasius' solution at the leading edge to von Karman's solution of a rotating disk at the down-stream. Eddy viscosity model is adopted for the calculation of turbulent flows. Turbulent flows on a rotating blade show similar characters as laminar flows. But cross-flow angle of turbulent flows are reduced in comparison with laminar boundary layers. Effects of rotation make flow structures significantly different from two-dimensional flows. In the range of Reynolds number of model scale propellers, large portion of the blade are still in the transition region from laminar to turbulent flows. Therefore viscous flow pattern might be quite different on the blade of model propeller. The present method of calculation is to be useful for the research of scale effects, cavitation, and roughness effects of propeller blades.

Accurate predictions of heat transfer coefficient of vertical laminar film-boiling are very important in many engineering applications. There are many predictions, however they are not exact as yet, since they have used the assumption of constant thermodynamic properties in the analysis. In this paper, heat transfer of vertical film boiling was analysized by Runnge Kutta method using veriable thermodynamic properties. 1/4 interval method was exployed for the prediction of unknown wall boundary condition. Numerical computations were performed with varying the wall temperature and the free stream velocity of liquid. Results show that assumption of constant thermodynamic properties induced considerable error in predicting the heat transfer coefficient, friction factor, film thickness, and critical length for transition to turbulent flow. Comparision of the predicted heat transfer coefficient of present analysis with that from Bromley's correlation shows that the use of general latent heat in Bromely equation instead of modified latent heat is more desireable since it makes the coefficient of Bromley equation into constant.
