  • The explosion of a nuclear weapon radiates a gamma-ray in the form of a transient pulse. If the gamma-ray introduces to semiconductor devices, much Electron-Hole Pairs(EHPs) are generated in depletion region of the devices[7]. as a consequence of that, high photocurrent is created and causes upset, latchup and burnout of semiconductor devices[8]. This phenomenon is known for Transient Radiation Effects on Electronics(TREE), also called dose-rate effects. In this paper 3D structure of inverter and NAND gate device was designed and transient pulse gamma-ray was modeled. So simulation for transient radiation effect on inverter and NAND gate was accomplished and mechanism for upset and latchup was analyzed.

  • In this paper, the design sensitivity formula for the control of the transient temperature distribution is developed using the direct differentiation method, and used for the optimal design of induction heating coil position. The temperature distribution is calculated using the heat source of the induced eddy current and heat diffusion equation. The physical property variations of the workpiece depending on the temperature are considered. The eddy current distribution and the temperature distribution are calculated with the 2D finite element procedure. The adjoint variable technique is employed in expressing the design sensitivity. The goal of the design is to have the desired distribution of the temperature on a specific region of the sensitivity. The goal of the design is to have the desired distribution of the temperature on a specific region sensitivity. The goal of the design is to have the desired distribution of the temperature on a specific region of the workpiece. The numerical example shows that the proposed design sensitivity analysis for the control of the transient temperature distribution is very useful and practical in the optimal design of induction heating coils.

  • In this paper dynamic behavior (modal analysis and dynamic transient response) of a novel sandwich T-joint is numerically and experimentally investigated. An epoxy adhesive is selected for bonding purpose and making the step wise graded behavior of adhesive region. The effect of the step graded behavior of the adhesive zone on dynamic behavior of a sandwich T-joint is numerically studied. Finite element analysis (FEA) of the T-joints with carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) face-sheets is performed by ABAQUS 6.12-1 FEM code software. Modal analysis and dynamic half-sine transient response of the sandwich T-joint are presented in this paper. Two verification processes employed to verify the dynamic modeling of the manufactured sandwich panels and T-joint modeling. It has been shown that the step wise graded adhesive zone cases have changed the second natural frequency by about 5%. Also, it has been shown that the different arranges in the step wise graded adhesive zone significantly affect the maximum stresses due to transient dynamic loading by 1112% decrease in maximum peel stress and 691.9% decrease in maximum shear stress on the adhesive region.

  • In this study, the effect of an insulation coating on the start time of a linear region is theoretically investigated when an insulation-coated hot-wire is used for the transient hot-wire method (THWM). For this purpose, important parameters affecting the start time of the linear region are presented from an analytical solution of temperature-rise for an insulation-coated hot-wire. Furthermore, a critical time to ignore the influence of important parameters is studied. The theoretical results indicate that the effect of the insulation coating rapidly disappears with a decrease in the wire radius, coating thickness, thermal diffusivity of insulation material or an increase in the thermal conductivity of the insulation material. The results of this study will be helpful for selecting a proper start time of the linear region for the THWM using insulation-coated hot-wires.

  • The change of microstructures in the base metal during transient liquid phase bonding process of directionally Ni base superalloy, GTD-111 was investigated. Bonds were fabricated using a series of holding times(0-7.2ks) at three different temperatures(1403, 1418 and 1453K) under a vacuum of 13.3mPa. In raw material, ${\gamma}$- ${\gamma}$' eutectic phases, platelet η phases, MC carbide and PFZ were seen in interdendritic regions or near grain boundary and size of primary ${\gamma}$' precipitates near interdendritic regions were bigger than core region. The primary ${\gamma}$' precipitates in dendrite core were dissolved early in bonding process, but ${\gamma}$' precipitates near interdendritic regions were dissolved partially and shape changed. The dissolution rate increased with increasing temperature. Phases in interdendritic regions or near pain boundary continually changed with time at the bonding temperature. In the bonding temperature of 1403K, eutectic phases had not significantly changed, but η phases had transformed from platelet shape to needle morphology and PFZ region had widened with time. The interdendritic region and near pain boundary were liquated partially at 1423k and fully at 1453k by reaction of η phases and PFZ. In the bonding temperature of 1453K, interdendritic region and near pain boundary were liquated and then new phases which mixed with η phases, PFZ and MC carbide crystallized during cooling. Crystallized η phases transformed from rod shape to platelet shape with increasing holding time.

  • Objectives : The present study investigated the effects of Achyranthis Radix on short-term memory, apoptotic neuronal cell death in the hippocampus following transient global ischemia in gerbils. Methods : The gerbils were divided into 5 groups(n=10); Sham operation group, ischemia-induced group, ischemia-induced and 50 mg/kg Achyranthis Radix-treated group, ischemia-induced and 100 mg/kg Achyranthis Radix-treated group, ischemia-induced and 200 mg/kg Achyranthis Radix-treated group. For this study, a step-down avoidance task, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling(TUNEL) assay, immunohistochemistry for caspase-3 and BrdU(5-Bromo-2'-deoxyuridine), and western blotting for bax, bcl-2 were performed. Results : The results revealed that ischemic injury impaired short-term memory and increased apoototic neuronal cell death in the hippocampal CA1(cornu ammonis area 1) region. Ischemic injury enhanced cell proliferation in the hippocampal CA1 region, the compensatory and adaptive process for excessive apoptosis. Achyranthis Radix treatment improved short-term memory by suppressing ischemia-induced apoptotic neuronal cell death in the hippocampal CA1 region. Also, Achyranthis Radix suppressed the ischemia-induced increase in cell proliferation in the hippocampal CA1 region. Conclusions : We showed that Achyranthis Radix alleviates ischemia-induced apoptotic neuronal cell death, thus facilitates the recovery of short-term memory impairment induced by ischemic cerebral injury.

  • We isolated and functionally characterized a Dendrobium Actin1 (DmACT1) promoter that drives strong gene expression in the orchid genus Dendrobium. A genomic fragment containing the region 3227 bp upstream of the coding region of DmACT1 was obtained by inverse PCR. Detailed comparison of the full-length cDNA and genomic sequences revealed that DmACT1 has a 1374 bp first intron in the 5' UTR. However, the 5' flanking sequences upstream of the coding region showed no obvious sequence similarities compared to those of known promoters, including plant actin promoters. Serial deletion constructs of the 5' flanking region from the translation initiation codon were fused to the coding sequence of a GUS/luciferase fusion reporter to identify the regulatory elements necessary for promoter activity. Transient assays in the flowers of Dendrobium revealed that the 5' UTR-intron greatly enhanced promoter activity. Moreover, the DmACT1 promoter with its 5' UTR-intron yielded approximately 10-fold higher reporter activity than the rice Act1 promoter-intron. Our data suggest that the DmACT1 promoter with its 5' UTR-intron is a useful tool for strong expression of transgenes in Dendrobium orchids.

  • A steady-state/transient performance simulation model was newly developed for the propulsion system of the CRW (Canard Rotor Wing) type UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) during flight mode transition. The CRW type UAV has a new concept RPV (Remotely Piloted Vehicle) which can fly at two flight modes such as the take-off/landing and low speed forward flight mode using the rotary wing driven by engine bypass exhaust gas and the high speed forward flight mode using the stopped wing and main engine thrust. The propulsion system of the CRW type UAV consists of the main engine system and the duct system. The flight vehicle may generally select a proper type and specific engine with acceptable thrust level to meet the flight mission in the propulsion system design phase. In this study, a turbojet engine with one spool was selected by decision of the vehicle system designer, and the duct system is composed of main duct, rotor duct, master valve, rotor tip-jet nozzles, and variable area main nozzle. In order to establish the safe flight mode transition region of the propulsion system, steady-state and transient performance simulation should be needed. Using this simulation model, the optimal fuel flow schedules were obtained to keep the proper surge margin and the turbine inlet temperature limitation through steady-state and transient performance estimation. Furthermore, these analysis results will be used to the control optimization of the propulsion system, later. In the transient performance model, ICV (Inter-Component Volume) model was used. The performance analysis using the developed models was performed at various flight conditions and fuel flow schedules, and these results could set the safe flight mode transition region to satisfy the turbine inlet temperature overshoot limitation as well as the compressor surge margin. Because the engine performance simulation results without the duct system were well agreed with the engine manufacturer's data and the analysis results using a commercial program, it was confirmed that the validity of the proposed performance model was verified. However, the propulsion system performance model including the duct system will be compared with experimental measuring data, later.
