The present article is concerned with the application of the kinetic Monte Carlo simulation to electrochemistry of lithium intercalation from the kinetic view point. Basic concepts of the kinetic Monte Carlo method and the transition state theory were first introduced, and then the simulation procedures were explained to evaluate diffusion process. Finally the kinetic Monte Carlo method based upon the transition state theory was employed under the cell-impedance-controlled constraint to analyse the current transient and the linear sweep voltammogram for the $LiMn_2O_4$ electrode, one of the intercalation compounds. From the results, it was found that the kinetic Monte Carlo method is much relevant to investigate kinetics of the lithium intercalation in the field of electrochemistry.

In this paper, we proposed a fuzzy-neuro controller to control the speed of wound rotor induction motor with slip energy recovery. The speed is limited at some range of sub-synchronous speed of the rotating magnetic field. Control speed by adjusting resistance value in the rotor circuit that occurs the efficiency of power are reduced, because of the slip energy is lost when it passes through the rotor resistance. The control system is designed to maintain efficiency of motor. Recently, the emergence of artificial neural networks has made it conductive to integrate fuzzy controllers and neural models for the development of fuzzy control systems, Fuzzy-neuro controller has been designed by integrating two neural network models with a basic fuzzy logic controller. Using the back propagation algorithm, the first neural network is trained as a plant emulator and the second neural network is used as a compensator for the basic fuzzy controller to improve its performance on-line. The function of the neural network plant emulator is to provide the correct error signal at the output of the neural fuzzy compensator without the need for any mathematical modeling of the plant. The difficulty of fine-tuning the scale factors and formulating the correct control rules in a basic fuzzy controller may be reduced using the proposed scheme. The scheme is applied to the control speed of a wound rotor induction motor process. The control system is designed to maintain efficiency of motor and compensate power factor of system. That is: the proposed controller gives the controlled system by keeping the speed constant and the good transient response without overshoot can be obtained.

An abrasion due to continuous friction between a work roll and strip causes the mass of the work roll to be unbalanced in the rolling process. We developed a mathematical model for the rolling mill considering the unbalanced mass and verified the model experimentally. The work roll was approximated as a rigid rotor with eccentricity, and the effect of the unbalanced mass on chatter vibration was investigated. The joint forces computed by quasistatic analysis were applied to the work roll in the rolling mill. Transient responses were obtained, and frequency analysis was performed by solving equations of motion using a direct integration method. Horizontal vibrations were more strongly affected by eccentricity than vertical vibrations. In the horizontal direction, a small eccentricity of 1% of the work roll radius considerably increased the amplitude of the chatter frequency.
There have been many studies on the two dimensional thermo-elasto-plastic analysis in welding process, mostly from viewpoint of residual stresses. In this study, the temperature distribution, transient thermal stress, and angular distortion during bead-on-plate gas metal arc welding of rectangular plates were analyzed by using the finite element method. A nonlinear heat transfer analysis was first performed by taking account of the temperature-dependent material properties and convection heat losses on the surface. This was followed by a thermo-elasto-plastic stresses and distortion analysis that incorporates the constrained boundary condition of the two dimensional solution domain to get the three dimensional size effect of the plate. The constrained boundary conditions adopted in this study were the constant displacement condition over the whole two dimensional section for axial movement in the welding direction, and the force boundary condition for rotational movementof the domain around the axis of the welding direction. It could be revealed that the theoretical predictions of the angular distortion have an improved agreement with the experimentally obtained data presented in the previous study.

In injection molding, the mold temperature is one of most important process parameters that affect the flow characteristics and part deformation. The mold temperature usually varies periodically owing to the effects of the hot polymer melt and the cold coolant as the molding cycle repeats. In this study, a pulsed mold temperature control was proposed to improve the part quality as well as the productivity by alternatively circulating hot water and cold water before and after the molding stage, respectively. Transient thermal-fluid coupled analyses were performed to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of the proposed pulsed mold heating and cooling system. The simulation results were then compared with those of the conventional mold cooling system in terms of the heating and cooling efficiencies of the proposed pulsed mold temperature control system.
Process of particle bombardment for efficient transformation of Cymbidium virescence rhizome microcross sections was investigated using Biolistic particle delivery system with pBI121 harboring the ${\beta}-glucuronidase$(GUS) and the neomycin phosphotransferaseII(nptII). The best result was obtained from the combination of $1.11{\;}{\mu}m$ tungsten particles coated with pBl121, $77.33kg/cm^2$ helium pressure, 6.35 mm gap distance, and 7.0 cm target distance. Transient expression of the reporter gene, GUS, bombarded into the rhizome microsections was observed by the histochemical assay. The marker gene, nptII, delivered by bombarding the tungsten particles coated with the plasmid DNA was identified in the transformed rhizome by polymerase chain reaction.
This paper deals with the space-time finite element analysis of two-dimensional vibration problem with a single variable. The method of space-time finite elements enables the simpler solution than the usual finite element analysis with discretization in space only. We present a discretization technique in which finite element approximations are used in time and space simultaneously for a relatively large time period. The weighted residual process is used to formulate a finite element method for a space-time domain. A stability problem is described and some investigations for chosen type of rectangular space-time finite elements are carried out. Instability is caused by a too large time step of successive time steps in the traditional time-dependent problems. It has been shown that the numerical stability of time-stepping on the larger time steps is quite good. The unstructured space-time finite element not only overcomes the shortcomings of the stability in the traditional numerical methods, but it is also endowed with the features of an effective computational technique. Some numerical examples have been presented to illustrate the efficiency of the described method.

The cooling of a injector effects on the vapor pressure of cryogenic oxidizer spray, and it decides the phase transition point at the ignition process, when the combustion chamber pressure increases drastically. The phase transition of oxidizer spray affects the ignition characteristics, and several ignition tests with the LOx/$GCH_4$ uni-element coaxial swirl injector was performed in the different initial temperatures of oxidizer injector, in order to investigate the effect of injector cooling on the ignition transient characteristics. At the transition point of oxidizer phase, where the combustion chamber pressure increased over the LOx vapor pressure, the temporary quenching phenomenon of the flame occurred. The lower temperature of chilled down injector and tubing tends to move up the phase transition earlier.

This is an experimental study conducted to visualize the nucleate boiling phenomena and flow regimes occurring inside the liquid pool in a closed two-phase thermosyphon. To meet this purpose, an annular-type thermosyphon was designed and manufactured using a glass tube and a stainless steel tube, being assembled axisymmetrically. The heat to be supplied to the working fluid is generated within a very thin layer of stainless steel tube wall by applying a high frequency electromagnetic field through the induction coil, axisymmetrically set around the evaporator zone. Some important results were as follows ; 1) Considering the structural complexity of the tested thermosyphon, it showed good performance for the range of heat flux 2< q" <25kW/$m^2$ and saturation vapor pressure, 0.1<Pv<1.1bar 2) different type of nucleating boiling regimes were observed as described below, -Pulse boiling regime : Flow pattern changed cyclically with time during 1 cycle of pulse boiling process. The onset of Nucleation was followed by expulsive growing of vapor bubble, resulting in the so called blow-up phenomenon, massive expulsion of large amount of liquid around the bubble. -Transient : Some spherical vapor bobbles were observed growing out from 2~3 nucleating sites, that was dispersed at the lower part of the heated tube wall in the liquid pool. But the rest upper region above the nucleating sites were filled with churns or bubbles of vapor. -Continuous nucleate boiling regime : The whole zone of evaporator was filled with lots of spherical vapor bubbles, and the bubbles showed tendency to decrease in diameter as the heat flux increased.ased.
Occupational neurotoxic diseases have become increasingly common in Taiwan due to industrialization. Over the past 40 years, Taiwan has transformed from an agricultural society to an industrial society. The most common neurotoxic diseases also changed from organophosphate poisoning to heavy metal intoxication, and then to organic solvent and semiconductor agent poisoning. The nervous system is particularly vulnerable to toxic agents because of its high metabolic rate. Neurological manifestations may be transient or permanent, and may range from cognitive dysfunction, cerebellar ataxia, Parkinsonism, sensorimotor neuropathy and autonomic dysfunction to neuromuscular junction disorders. This study attempts to provide a review of the major outbreaks of occupational neurotoxins from 1968 to 2012. A total of 16 occupational neurotoxins, including organophosphates, toxic gases, heavy metals, organic solvents, and other toxic chemicals, were reviewed. Peer-reviewed articles related to the electrophysiology, neuroimaging, treatment and long-term follow up of these neurotoxic diseases were also obtained. The heavy metals involved consisted of lead, manganese, organic tin, mercury, arsenic, and thallium. The organic solvents included n-hexane, toluene, mixed solvents and carbon disulfide. Toxic gases such as carbon monoxide, and hydrogen sulfide were also included, along with toxic chemicals including polychlorinated biphenyls, tetramethylammonium hydroxide, organophosphates, and dimethylamine borane. In addition we attempted to correlate these events to the timeline of industrial development in Taiwan. By researching this topic, the hope is that it may help other developing countries to improve industrial hygiene and promote occupational safety and health care during the process of industrialization.
