  • In this study, for efficiency enhancement of low temperature heat exchanger, the thermal conductivity and the viscosity of carbon nanofluids and oxidized carbon nanofluids were measured at $10^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$, respectively. Carbon nanofluids were made by ultrasonic-dispersing ones in distilled water after Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) mixed Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS, 100 wt%), Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP, 300 wt%) each. Oxidized carbon nanofluids were made by ultrasonic-dispersing Oxidized Carbon Nanotubes (OMWCNTs) in distilled water. The thermal conductivity of carbon nanofluids was measured by using a transient hot-wire method. The viscosity was measured by using a digital viscometer. As a result, the thermal conductivity of oxidized carbon nanofluids was the highest of those compared and the other carbon nanofluids at the same mixture ratio and temperature, and the viscosity was measured the lowest of those compared and the other carbon nanofluids.

  • Stirred tank is widely used in various industries for mixing operations and chemical reactions for single- or multi-phase fluid systems. For designing agitator of high performance, quantity data of internal flow characteristics influenced by mixing performance are definitely confirmed but quantity analysis about the transient flow characteristics of complicate structure is recognized as difficult problem in the present. In this study, two models of commercial CFD code Fluent 6.3 used to propose suitable for the tank analysis. Agitation of Stirred tank is analyzed using a mixed model and the flow in the stirred tank is analyzed using a standard k-${\varepsilon}$ model. Multiple reference frame(MRF) and Sliding mesh(SM), the analysis techniques were used For compare a result of CFD with a visualization experiment result, to grasp internal flow and mixing characteristic in stirred tank and to present fundamental analysis method.

  • The terminal voltage of a synchronous generator is maintained by the field current control of excitation system. Generally AC/DC converter which is component of AVR(Automatic Voltage Regulator) system for excitation current control is connected to diode rectifier and DC/DC converter system. In the case of diode rectifier system of phase controlled converter as AC/DC converter have low power factor and harmonics of lower order in the line current. In this paper, two stage three phase PWM AC/DC converter is studied to solve these problems. The characteristics of a proposed converter reduces the harmonics and reactive power of the distribution line and has fast dynamic response in transient period using boost converter and current control mode buck converts. The proposed method is verified by the computer simulation and experimental results in prototype generation system.

  • An experimental study was carried out, in order to set up the procedure for evaluation of hot fire test, to investigate the effect of mixture on combustion performance and combustion stability , and to determine the optimum design condition for designing the liquid rocket engine. $HNO_3$/Kerosene uni-element liquid rocket engine(thrust 24 $\iota{b}_f$, chamber pressure 200 psia) using impinging streams doublet injector was designed, and ground hot-fire test was carried out. To prevent or reduce the hard start during ignition period, two step ignition method was used. This was accomplished by maintaining about 25% of the designed operating pressure doting transient period, then chamber pressure was built up to the designed operating pressure. Maximum combustion efficiency was at O/F ratio 3.6, and combustion efficiency is decreased with increasing momentum ratio.

  • The circulation flows passing through the Ekman boundary layer on the rotating disk and transfer the angular momentum into the interior region of the container. Consequently, the circulation enhances the momentum transfer and the interior fluid is divided by a propagating shear front. This investigation focuses on computer vision and image processing technique for analysis of Non-Newtonian Fluids. To visualize marching velocity shear front for the transient flow, a particular shaped particles and light are used. To validate the proposed method, quantitative image are compared with the optical data acquired by a direct measurement of LDV (Laser Doppler Velocimetry).

  • This paper describes distribution characteristics of switching surge voltage in stator windings of induction motor driven by IGBT PWM inverter. To analyze the voltage distribution between the turns and coils of stator winding, equivalent circuit model of induction motor including cable was proposed and high frequency parameter is computed by using finite-element method (FEM). From the electro-magnetic transient program (EMTP) simulation of the whole system for induction motor, feeder cable, and PWM inverter, the variable effect on rising time of the inverter, cable length, and switching frequency on the voltage distribution is also presented. In order to experiment, an induction motor, 380[V], 50[HP], with taps from one phase are built to consider the voltage distribution so that these results can be helpful when filter was designed to remove high dv/dt.

  • In a number of industries, porous insulations have been frequently used, reducing thermal insulation space through excellent performance of the thermal insulation's characteristics. This paper suggests an effective thermal conductivity prediction model. Firstly, we perform a literature review of traditional effective thermal conductivity prediction models and compare each model with experimental heat transfer results. Furthermore, this research defines the effectiveness of thermal conductivity prediction models using experimental heat transfer results and the Zehner-Schlunder model. The newly defined effective thermal conductivity prediction model has been verified to better predict performance than other models. Finally, this research performs a transient heat transfer analysis of a thermal protection system with a porous insulation in a high speed vehicle using the finite element method and confirms the validity of the effective thermal conductivity prediction model.

  • The purpose of this work is to present a spatial neutron kinetics computational scheme for the analysis of space-dependent transients like rod ejection accident of pressurized water reactors. In this work modified Borresen's 1.5 group coarse mesh scheme was formulated for the neutronic computation of the space-dependent transients and applied to the analysis of hypothetical rod ejection accident of KNU no. 1 PWR core at BOC, HZP. The computational accuracy of the modified Borresen's scheme is examined by comparing calculations for core power and control rod worths with startup core physics test results. Effects of such parameters as ejected rod worths and number of delayed neution group ell transient results as well as computational efficiency are also examined. OB this basis it is suggested that the modified Borresen's method is a useful scheme for the analysis of spatial neutron transients of PWR's.

  • This paper investigates the accuracy of the vehicle pre-braking speed estimated based upon measured skidding distance. Driver ordinarily takes sudden braking when urgent situation is developed in the front or when the driver is involved in an unexpected situation, and the driver may be inflicted upon an accident depending on the required stopping distance. Among factors influencing the stopping distance of vehicle such as recognition response time of driver, performance of vehicle's braking device, and state of road surface etc, pre-braking speed is seemingly the most important influencing factor. Currently, in the investigating section of traffic accidents, the state of overspeed is determined by the pre-skidding speed calculated based on the length of skid mark. In order to identify the accurate cause of the accident, it is strongly recommended that estimation of pre-braking speed should be estimated taking into account speed reduction during transient time. In this study, we propose a method for estimating more accurate exact speed information of vehicle at the time of traffic accident. The outcomes from this study potentially help better understanding of the characteristics of vehicle for traffic safety in the future.

  • The capacity of passive metal to repassivate after film damage determines the development of local corrosion and the resistance to corrosion failures. In this work, the repassivation kinetics of 316L stainless steel (316L SS) was investigated in borate buffer solution (pH 9.1) using a novel abrading electrode technique. The repassivation kinetics was analyzed in terms of the current density flowing from freshly bare 316L SS surface as measured by a potentiostatic method. During the early phase of decay (t < 2 s), according to the Avrami kinetics-based film growth model, the transient current was separated into anodic dissolution ($i_{diss}$) and film formation ($i_{film}$) components and analyzed individually. The film reformation rate and thickness were compared according to applied potential. Anodic dissolution initially dominated the repassivation for a short time, and the amount of dissolution increased with increasing applied potential in the passive region. Film growth at higher potentials occurred more rapidly compared to at lower potentials. Increasing the applied potential from 0 $V_{SCE}$ to 0.8 $V_{SCE}$ resulted in a thicker passive film (0.12 to 0.52 nm). If the oxide monolayer covered the entire bare surface (${\theta}=1$), the electric field strength through the thin passive film reached $1.6{\times}10^7V/cm$.
