$BaTiO_3$ 세라믹스의 절연파괴거동에 미치는 결정립 크기와 시편두께의 영향 (Grain Size and Thickness Effects of Electrical Breakdown Behavior of $BaTiO_3$ Ceramics)

  • Undoped barium titanate ceramic samples with high density were produced by using both high purity hydro-thermally synthesized and oxalate-derived powders. Sintering temperature was varied in the temperature range 128$0^{\circ}C$-140$0^{\circ}C$ to control the average grain sizes of the samples. Electrical breakdown test was performed at two different temperature with 3$0^{\circ}C$(below Tc) and 15$0^{\circ}C$ (above Tc) for samples immersed in silicon oil bath using 60kV dc power supply. From the experimental results at below and above Curie temperature the grain size and thickness dependence of electrical breakdown strength for BaTiO3 ceramics was presented and breakdown behavior was also studied.

  • Irregular shapes and growth behavior of surface micro-crack showed very complex and nonlinear propeties and many investigators have performed theoretical analysesand experiments on them to characterize fatigue strength. They had difficulties in estimating fatigue life due to random distribution, growth and coalescence of surface micro-cracks. The straightness of crack growth along intergranular and transgranular was prevented from irregular microstructure and precipitates. Euclid geometry can't quantify shape of surface micro-crack but ftractal geometry can. Therefore, it is suggested that average fractal dimension of surface micro-cracks is able to estimate fatigue life but fractal dimension of maximum surface micro-crack is not in Al 2024-T3 alloy.

  • This study proposes the integrity evaluation of bogie frame using ultrasonic waves-fractography analysis. Analysis objectives in this study are to investigate fracture planes of damaged zone by the A-scan method. The surface condition of fracture plane shows degree of degradation by stress concentration. The detection of the natural defects in bogie frame is performed using the characteristics of echodynamic pattern in ultrasonic signal. Results of ultrasonic testing agree fairly well with those of actual fracture plane. In quantitative fractography analysis, microstructures of actual fracture plane turned out to be intergranular and transgranular fracture, Proposed ultrasonic-fractography analysis in this study can be used for the integrity evaluation of the bogie frame

오스테나이트 304 스테인레스 강의 응력부식균열에 미치는 냉간가공의 영향 (Effect of Cold Work on the Stress Corrosion Cracking in Austenitic 304 Stainless Steel)

  • This study was made of the effect of cold working on the stress corrosion cracking(SCC) of austenitlc 304 stainless steel in boiling 42% $MgCl_2$ solution. For this experiment, specimens cold-worked of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% were fabricated respectively, and then experiments of mechanical properties and stress corrosion cracking(SCC) of these specimens were carried out. The results of these experiments indicate that the maximum resistance to SCC showed at 20% of cold working degree and that the SCC susceptibility depended on the volume fraction of deformation-induced martensite by cold working and the work hardening of matrix. On the other hand, the fracture mode was changed. This phenomenon was considered that deformation-induced martensite was grown from transgranular fracture mode to intergranular fracture mode and caused by increased of dislocation density along the slip planes.

  • Super-duralumin has widely been used as the part materials of aerospace and automobile industry because it has high specific strength and also is light. But, we have little design data about the creep behaviors of the alloy. Therefore, in this study, every creep test under four constant stress conditions have been conducted for four temperature conditions. A series of creep tests had been performed to get the basic design data and life prediction of super-duralurnin products and we have gotten the following results. First, the stress exponents showed the descending trend as the test temperatures increase. Secondly, the creep activation energy gradually decreased as the stresses become bigger. Thirdly, the constant of Larson-Miller parameters on this alloy was estimated about 6. And last, the fractographs at the creep rupture showed both the brittle fracture due to the transgranular rupture.

  • The grain structure, dislocation density and second phase particles in various regions including the stir zone(SZ), thermo-mechanically affected zone(TMAZ), and heat affected zone(HAZ) of a friction stir weld 6.35mm thick aluminum 7075-T651 alloy were investigated and compared with the base metal. The microstruectures of nugget zone were compared according to tool rotation speeds and tool transition speeds. The hardness profiles of nugget zone were increased, while decreasing rotation speed and increasing welding speed. The optimal microstructure was gained at the low rotation speed 800rpm and th high welding speed 124mm/min. The nugget microstructures of fracture surface, transgranular dimple and quasicleavage type were showed different fracture type with the HAZ, shear fracture type.

  • The high-temperature strength of Ce-TZP was measured at 200, 650 and 100$0^{\circ}C$ by 4-point bending test. And its fracture behavior was observed by SEM. Below $650^{\circ}C$ of the temperature, where monoclinic fraction was almost zero, the decreasing rate of bending strength was relatively slow, but above this temperature, high temperature strength was largely decreased as a result of the decrease of stress-induced transformation of zirconia. The observation of fracture surface bended at 100$0^{\circ}C$ indicated that the fracture mode changed from intergranular-into transgranular-form with regardless of ceria contents.

  • The mechanical properties of Al2O3-ZrO2 composites fabricated by RBAO(reaction bonded aluminium oxide) process were investigated. As the amount of ZrO2 increased the sinstered density of Al2O3-ZrO2 composites decreased slightly, but wear resistance was enhanced. Bending strength of Al2O3-ZrO2 composites increased in proportion to the amount of al in case of a fixed ZrO2 content. When the amount of Al was fixed bending strength reached its maximum value at 25 wt% ZrO2. The fracture toughness(K1c) increased with increasing content of ZrO2, but decreased with increasing Al amount. On the other hand, the fracture mode of Al2O3-ZrO2 composites was the mixed mode of inter-and transgranular fracture.

Study of Hot Salt Stress Corrosion Crack Initiation of Alloy IMI 834 by using DC Potential Drop Method

  • DC potential drop technique was employed during the slow strain rate tests to study the hot salt stress corrosion crack (HSSCC) initiation at 300 and $400^{\circ}C$. Threshold stresses for HSSCC initiation were found to about 88 % of the yield strength at both temperatures, but the time from crack initiation to final failure (${\Delta}t_{scc}$) decreased significantly with temperature, which reflects larger tendency for brittle fracture and secondary cracking. The brittle fracture features consisted of transgranular cracking through the primary ${\alpha}$ grain and discontinuous faceted cracking through the transformed ${\beta}$ grains.

  • 화학 조성, 열처리 온도 및 시간을 적절히 제어하여 Phlogopite-based 글라스 세라믹스를 제조한 다음 미세구조와 기계적 물성의 관계를 조사하였다. 특히 결정의 크기가 결정화도에 따른 기계적 물성 변화를 관찰하였다. 결정의 크기가 약 1-5$\mu\textrm{m}$이고결정화도가 70%인 시편에서는 $K_{IC}$ 가 1.4MPaㆍ $m^{1}$2/이고 MOR이 140MPa의 값을 얻었으며 이때의 파괴양상은 crack deflection에 의한 transgranular fracture가 주돈 기구임을 관찰하였다. 결정화도가 낮은 영역에서는 뚜렷한 기계적 물성 변화가 없었으며 결정화도가 50~70%인 영역에서 두드러진 기계적 강도 및 인성의 증가가 관찰되었다.
