  • Matching transformer in Dynamic Voltage Compensator is needed for grid connection and isolation. Flux saturation in transformer will be occurred by voltage of transformer from inverter and DC offset voltage and flux saturation makes over current in transformer. In this paper, mathematical modeling of matching transformer is proposed for flux saturation simulation of Dynamic Voltage Compensator.

11-kV Series-Connected H-Bridge Multilevel Converter for Direct Grid Connection of Renewable Energy Systems

  • Due to the variable nature of renewable energy resources and power demand by consumers, it is difficult to operate a power system installed with only one type of renewable energy resource. Grid-based renewable generation may be the only solution to overcome this problem. The conventional approach based on a low-voltage converter with power frequency transformer is commonly employed for grid connection of offshore renewable energy systems. Because of the heavy weight and large size of the transformer, the system can be expensive and complex in terms of installation and maintenance. In this paper, an 11-kV series connected H-bridge (SCHB) multilevel voltage source converter (VSC) is proposed to achieve a compact and light direct grid connection of renewable energy systems. This paper presents the design, simulation and analysis of a five level (5L)-SCHB and an eleven level (11L)-SCHB VSC for 11-kV grid-based renewable energy systems. The performance, cost, modulation scheme and harmonic spectra of the converter are analyzed.

  • In this paper, we introduced about safety algorithm of transformer for MV/LV distribution customers using by fuzzy theory. Overload of transformer becomes different by surrounding temperature. And parameters about overload of transformer are connection each other. Therefore, we organize safety algorithm consider overload of transformer and surrounding temperature in this research. And we induce the relational expression of each parameters using experiment data of IEEE std C57.91-1995. Deduction of result used fuzzy reasoning. We guess the safety algorithm suggested in this paper shows the new direction that heavy electrical equipments including switchboard are going to develop in the future.

Interleaved ZVS Resonant Converter with a Parallel-Series Connection

  • This paper presents an interleaved resonant converter with a parallel-series transformer connection in order to achieve ripple current reduction at the output capacitor, zero voltage turn-on for the active switches, zero current turn-off for the rectifier diodes, less voltage stress on the rectifier diodes, and less current stress on the transformer primary windings. The primary windings of the two transformers are connected in parallel in order to share the input current and to reduce the root-mean-square (rms) current on the primary windings. The secondary windings of the two transformers are connected in series in order to ensure that the transformer primary currents are balanced. A full-wave diode rectifier is used at the output side to clamp the voltage stress of the rectifier diode at the output voltage. Two circuit modules are operated with the interleaved PWM scheme so that the input and output ripple currents are reduced. Based on the resonant behavior, all of the active switches are turned on under zero voltage switching (ZVS), and the rectifier diodes are turned off under zero current switching (ZCS) if the operating switching frequency is less than the series resonant frequency. Finally, experiments with a 1kW prototype are described to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

  • In multiple current source inverter, generally, transformer connection method and direct connection method in output side have been used. But these methods have faults such as the increment of the number of inverter and the need of the transformer for changing phase in order to get above 12 phase. In this system, we obtained the output currents of 24 phase by adding 2taps in 12 phase inverter. Therefore, this system has such characteristics as the miniaturization of devices and the simplicity of control signal by controlling two inverters and two SCRs for changing taps.

A Zigzag Connected Auto-Transformer Based 24-Pulse AC-DC Converter

  • In this paper, a 24-pulse AC-DC converter is designed, modeled, simulated, and developed to feed non-isolated varying loads. The proposed AC-DC converter configuration consists of an auto-transformer based on zigzag connection to overcome current harmonic problems in AC mains. It improves power quality at AC mains and it meets IEEE-519 standard requirements at varying loads. A set of power quality indices on input AC mains and on DC buses for a load fed from 6-pulse and 12-pulse AC-DC converters is also given to compare their performance. It is observed that input current total harmonic distortion(THD) of less than 8% is possible with the proposed topology of AC-DC converter at varying loads.

  • As the various kinds of load who generate higher harmonics increases according as the power electronics technology develops, harmonic treatment standard is proposed by IEEE and IEC. Because establishment of harmonic reduction device is required for existent installment to satisfy harmonic treatment standard, the problem of investment charge and installation space increasing may be occurred. In order to solve these problems, a novel transformer connection method using principles of PCT and ZED is suggested.

하이브리드 몰드 변압기의 온도 특성 해석 (Temperature Characteristics Analysis of Hybrid Transformer)

  • In this paper, the temperature distribution of 400kVA hybrid transformer is predicted by using CFD analysis. The copper loss and iron loss which are heat source are calculated by using Joule heat and Bertotti's equation respectively. To improve the convergence of the numerical calculation and to reduce the computation time, the 1/4 model is used and the incompressible air model is used for external air. To verify analysis result, the temperature rise test and no-load test of the transformer are performed. The experiment result obtained by using thermo-graphic camera is similar to the numerical result of the CFD analysis.

  • Because of increasing demand for safety of the power transformer, the seismic qualification process in accordance with the standard of IEEE Std 693-1997 is essentially required by customer. Dynamic analysis method and static analysis method were used to qualify the seismic withstanding of the power transformer at high seismic level. Maximum stress was detected at the connection between the main structure and appendages, and maximum displacement was detected at the point of appendage's end tip. Load path and substructure system can be considered as important elements to prevent over stress and over displacement.

154 kV 및 345 kV 주변압기 부싱의 내진성능 시험 연구 (The Experimental Study on Seismic Capacity of 154 kV & 345 kV Main Transformer Bushings)

  • In this study, seismic performance of bushings and their connection parts was analyzed by performing shaking table tests for various types of bushings widely used as auxiliary equipment of main transformers in domestic substations. As a result of the seismic tests of five types of 154 kV bushings according to the manufacturers, all the bushings secured the structural integrity even at the acceleration of 1.4 g and it was found that leakage of insulating oil didn't occur. Also, the average acceleration amplification rate at the upper part of the bushings was about 2.5 to 3.0 times higher than the lower one. On the other hand, when a representative 345 kV bushing was subjected to the seismic test, the structural integrity was secured even at 1.0 g acceleration similar to the design earthquake load level, but in this test, leakage of insulating oil occurred. However, when a stiffener restricting the connection of the bushing is installed in the same 345 kV bushing, the displacement of the bushing connection is controlled and the stiffener prevent the oil from leaking even at the acceleration of the designed seismic level.
