  • This paper presents the standard for dividing/tieing the distribution lines and installing optimally the automated distribution switch-gear in multi-line faults. Also this paper recommends the distribution system design in consideration of the live load transfer of the concentrated load in the last load-side. This recommendation will be useful for designing the distribution network, developing the feeder automation software and operating the distribution automation system.

  • ATS(Automatic Transfer Switch), the secondary power supply system prepared for' temporary power fail on main in KEPCO in industrial field or running a important system. is developed. In this development, we prove that the proposed system is safe with results in a few environment testing focused on a solution against a poor environment by making virtual environment for a solution on problems of system reliability to switch more safely.

  • A new SEPIC-Flyback converter is proposed. The proposed converter is the integration of SEPIC and Flyback converter. Not only SEPIC output but also Flyback output could be fully regulated by constant frequency PWM control. Merged SEPIC and Flyback topology can share the transformer and power MOSFET. When the switch turns on, one topology operates via capacitive energy transfer. The other topology acts as inductive energy transfer while the switch is off. So, it can increase power density per one cycle. The experimental result is presented and verified.

  • Recently, Broadband ISDN(B-ISDN) has received increased attention as a communication architecture which can support multimedia applications. Also, Asynchronous Transfer Mode(ATM) is considered as a promising technique to transfer and switch various kinds of media, such as telephone speech, data and motion video. Comparisons among a variety of ATM switching systems which have already been proposed will provide quite useful information for the new ATM switching system design. To facilitate the comparison, we introduce the design requirements and classification criteria for the ATM switch, and propose a performance analysis model for the Banyan network which is the basic switching fabric of most multi-stage ATM switching systems. The model is based on the standard discrete-time Markov chain analysis and can be conveniently used for extensive Banyan network analysis. The computational results are also presented.

  • This paper proposes a new fault restoration method which adopts the recloser as top agent to release the problems of the data concentration and fault processing delay of the existing DAS(distribution Automation System) under the ubiquitous distribution system. In proposed method, top agent collects the data based on the multi-casting communication with the tie switches of the interconnection point, and then selects a closed switch(tie switch) to transfer the sound outage load to other feeders based on the heuristic search strategy step by step until the load transfer work is finished. Here, a new heuristic rule is developed which can guarantee the relational load balancing and line loss from the collected voltage data. Finally, the several faults are simulated for typical multi-section and multi-interconnection distribution system to prove the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, in particular, for each simulation cases, the load balancing index and line loss index of the obtained solution from the proposed method is compared with those of all of feasible solutions.

  • We propose and fabricate an 1${\times}$2 asymmetric optical switch by TOE using SOI wafer based on silicon which has very large TOE figure and it is a good material for optical devices. SOI wafer consists of 3 layers; upper Si layer for device(waveguide;core, n=3.5), buried oxide layer for insulator(clad, n=1.5) and Si substrate layer. We designed 1${\times}$2 asymmetric y-branched single mode optical waveguide switch by BPM simulation and metal heater by heat transfer simulation. Fabricated switch shows about 3.5 watts of power consumption and over 20dB of crosstalk between output channels.

  • In this paper, a performance evaluation model of the switch router with the multiple-buffered crossbar switches is proposed and examined. Buffered switch technique is well known to solve the data collision problem of the crossbar switch. The proposed evaluation model is developed by investigating the transfer patterns of data packets in a switch with output-buffers. The performance of the multiple-buffered crossbar switch is analyzed. Steady state probability concept is used to simplify the analyzing processes. Two important parameters of the network performance, throughput and delay, are then evaluated. To validate the proposed analysis model, the simulation is carried out on a network that uses the multiple buffered crossbar switches. Less than $2\%$ differences between analysis and simulation results are observed. It is also shown that the network performance is significantly improved when the small number of buffer spaces is given. However, the throughput elevation is getting reduced and network delay becomes increasing as more buffer spaces are added in a switch.

Design Guidelines for a Capacitive Wireless Power Transfer System with Input/Output Matching Transformers

  • A capacitive wireless power transfer (C-WPT) system uses an electric field to transmit power through a physical isolation barrier which forms a pair of ac link capacitors between the metal plates. However, the physical dimension and low dielectric constant of the interface medium severely limit the effective link capacitance to a level comparable to the main switch output capacitance of the transmitting circuit, which thus narrows the soft-switching range in the light load condition. Moreover, by fundamental limit analysis, it can be proved that such a low link capacitance increases operating frequency and capacitor voltage stress in the full load condition. In order to handle these problems, this paper investigates optimal design of double matching transformer networks for C-WPT. Using mathematical analysis with fundamental harmonic approximation, a design guideline is presented to avoid unnecessarily high frequency operation, to suppress the voltage stress on the link capacitors, and to achieve wide ZVS range even with low link capacitance. Simulation and hardware implementation are performed on a 5-W prototype system equipped with a 256-pF link capacitance and a 200-pF switch output capacitance. Results show that the proposed scheme ensures zero-voltage-switching from full load to 10% load, and the switching frequency and the link capacitor voltage stress are kept below 250 kHz and 452 V, respectively, in the full load condition.

  • In the case of 4 wheel drive (4-WD) type car, power switching occurs to 4-WD by operating lever or switch that operates power switching device attached in transfer case which can operate motor by electric signal. So if the RPM of motor is high, power switching will not exactly occur and can cause damage to gear in transfer case according to circumstances. So in this study, we applied 2 level of planet gear type motor spindle of motor drive part of a power train. And conducted decelerating to increase torque to switch power safe and accurately. Also, we researched efficiency of gear by designing reduction gear ratio and gear type and by calculating contact stress and bending strength. Based on researched content, we made drive head of power switching device and a reduction module which uses type that uses motor spindle as sun gear and ring gear as cover.

Performance analysis of priority control mechanism with cell transfer ratio and discard threshold in ATM switch (ATM 스위치에서 폐기 임계치를 가진 셀전송비율 제어형 우선순위 제어방식의 성능 분석)

  • ATM switch handles the traffic for a wide range of appliations with different QOS(Quality-of-Service) requirements. In ATM switch, the priority control mechanism is needed to improve effectively the required QOS requirements. In this paper, we propose a priority control mechanism using the cell transfer ratio type and discard threshold in order to archive the cell loss probability requirement and the delay requirement of each service class. The service classes of our concern are the service class with high time priority(class 1) and the service class with high loss priority control mechanism, cells for two kind of service classes are stored and processed within one buffer. In case cells are stored in the buffer, cells for class 2 are allocated in the stored and processed within one buffer. In case cells are stored in the buffer, cells for class 2 are allocated in the shole range of the buffer and cells for class 1 are allocated up to discard threshold of the buffer. In case cells in the buffer are transmitted, one cell for class 1 is transmitted whenever the maximum K cells for class 2 are transmitted consecutively. We analyze the time delay and the loss probability for each class of traffic using Markov chain. The results show that the characteristics of the mean cell delay about cells for class 1 becomes better and that of the cell loss probability about cells for class 2 becomes better by selecting properly discard threshold of the buffer and the cell transfer ratio according to the condition of input traffic.
