Development of Prediction Model for Average Temperature in the Roughing Mill (열연 조압연공정에 있어서의 평균온도 예측모델 개발)

  • A mathematical model was developed for the prediction of the average temperature and RDT(RM Delivery temperature) in a roughing mill. The model consisted of three parts as follows (1) The intermediate numerical model calculated the deformation and heat transfer phenomena in the rolling: region by steady state FEM and the heat transfer phenomena in the interpass region by unsteady state FEM (2) The Off-line prediction model was derived from non-linear regression analysis based on the results of intermediate numerical model considering the various rolling conditions, (3) Using the heat flux in rolling region, temperature profile along thickness direction was calculated. For validation of the presented model, the rolling force per pass and RDT measued in on-line process was compared with those of model and the results showed close agreement with the existing data. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model, the various rolling conditions was tested.

  • A kinematic modeling method is proposed which models the sliding and skidding at the wheels as pseudo joints and utilizes those pseudo joint variables as augmented variables. Kinematic models of various type of wheels are derived based on this modeling method. Then, the transfer method of augmented generalized coordinates is applied to obtain inverse and forward kinematic models of mobile robots. The kinematic models of five different types of planar mobile robots are derided to show the effectiveness of the proposed modeling method.

  • This paper is concerned with the active vibration control of flexible cantilever beam system using electromagnetic farce actuator. The main objective of this paper is to propose the control algorithms and to implement the experimental setups for active vibration control. Dynamic equations of the electromagnetic actuator and the beam are combined to find the transfer function from the electromagnetic actuator to the laser sensor. The final transfer function is determined by considering only the first and second modes, and experiments confirm that this model works well. Several control algorithms are proposed and implemented on the experimental setups to show their efficacy. These include a PID control design, an optimal H$_2$ control design, and a fuzzy PID control design. Effectiveness and performance of the designed controller were verified by both simulation and experiment results.

  • In this paper, an index for the evaluation of vehicle intake booming noise is developed through a correlation analysis of objective measurement data and subjective evaluation data. First, intake orifice noise is measured at the wide-open test condition. And then, acoustic transfer function between intake orifice noise and interior noise at the steady state condition is estimated. Simultaneously, subjective evaluation was carried out with a ten-scale score by 8 engineers. Next, the correlation analysis between the psycho-acoustic parameters derived from the measured data and the subjective evaluation is performed. The most critical factor was determined and the corresponding index for the intake booming noise is obtained from the multiple factor regression method. At last, the effectiveness of the proposed index is validated.

  • This paper studies generator rescheduling technique for congestion management in power system with wind farms. The proposed technique is formulated to minimize the rescheduling cost of conventional and wind generators to alleviate congestion subject to operational line overloading. The generator rescheduling method has been used with incorporation of wind farms in the power system. The locations of wind farms are selected based upon power transfer distribution factor (PTDF). Because all generators in the system do not need to participate in congestion management, the rescheduling has been done by generator selection based on the proposed generator sensitivity factor (GSF). The selected generators have been rescheduled using linear programming(LP) optimization techniques to alleviate transmission congestion. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology has been analyzed on IEEE 14-bus systems.

  • The present study deals with a numerical investigation of heat and mass transfer in a Sweeping Gas Membrane Distillation (SGMD) used for desalination. The governing equations expressing the conservation of mass, momentum, energy and species with coupled boundary conditions were solved numerically. The slip boundary condition applied on the feed saline solution-hydrophobic membrane interface is taken into consideration showing its effects on profiles and process parameters.The numerical model was validated with available experimental data and was found to be in good agreement particularly when the slip condition is considered. The results of the simulations highlighted the effect of slip boundary condition on the velocity and temperature distributions as well as the process effectiveness. They showed in particular that as the slip length increases, the permeate flux of fresh water and process thermal efficiency rise.

  • The objectives of this paper are to study the characteristics of heat transfer and pressure drop of the micro channel heat exchangers using diffusion bonding technology. Four types of heat exchangers are designed and manufactured, which are straight type, long dot type, splited wavy type and straight double side type. Heat transfer and pressure drop performance of each heat exchangers are measured in various operating conditions, and compared each other. The results show that the $(j/f)^{1/3}$ performance of splited wavy type and long dot type increases about 10.3% and 6.1% at the Reynolds number 470 compared to that of straight type, respectively. On the other hand, $(j/f)^{1/3}$ performance of straight double side type decreases 19.7%.

  • High speed and large transfer capability of railroad has been an important issue in Korean since KTX opening at 2004. Improvement projects for railway electrification are progressed in the conventional line as well as high speed line because various operation plan is performed such as interaction between high speed line and conventional line and operation of tilting train etc. Especially, railway electrification has many advantages which are cost effective and eco-friendly. But it also has some problems such as construction costs and accidents due to electrification. Therefore this paper developed measuring index of electrification railway benefit. By comparing between diesel and electrical locomotive, the operations of before and after the electrification and measurements quantitative index such as energy efficiency, enlargement of transfer capability, environmental pollution and maintenance and efficiency of operation is presented. In the future, Overall benefit and cost of railway electrification will be analyzed.

  • This paper evaluates FACTS control on the available transfer capability (ATC) enhancement. Technical merits of FACTS technology on boosting ATC are analyzed. More effective control means for line flow and bus voltage require the application of FACTS. In this paper, the power flow calculation method for the power systems with FACTS is based on the current injection model (CIM) and the Newton-Raphson method. An integrated scheme for ATC calculation, which considers the dynamic characteristic of the power system, is suggested. The study is applied to the IEEE 57-bus power system to demonstrate the effectiveness of FACTS control on ATC enhancement.
