  • In this paper, very simple methods based on the exponential analysis are presented by which transfer function models for processes can easily be obtained. These methods employ step responses or impulse responses of the processes. These can also give a more precise transfer function model compared to the well-known graphical methods. Transfer functions are determined based on Prony method, which is one of the oldest and the most representative methods in the exponential analysis. Here, the method is reformed and applied to obtain the so-called low-order transfer function with pure time delay from the data of the step response. The effectiveness of the proposed method is examined through several numerical examples and experiments of the 2-tank level control process.

  • In this paper, a method for IMC-PID controller tuning is proposed based on obtaining a controller from closed-loop transfer function. It is considered a plant with the second-order plus dead time(SOPDT) model and selected the third-order plus dead time transfer function model as a target function. The filter function is derived from the suitable target function to satisfy the design specifications. A robustness test was done to verify the robust-stability.

  • To support daily ground-level $O_3$ forecasting in Seoul, a transfer function model(TFM) has been developed by using surface meteorological data and pollutant data(previous-day [$O_3$] and [$NO_2$]) from 1 May to 31 August in 1997. The forecast performance of the TFM was evaluated by statistical comparison with $O_3$ concentration observed during September it is shown that correlation coefficient(R), root mean squared error(RMSE), normalized mean squared error(NMSE) and mean relative error(MRE) were 0.73, 15.64, 0.006 and 0.101, respectively. The TFM appeared to have some difficulty forecasting very high $O_3$ concentrations. To compare with this model, multiple regression model(MRM) was developed for the same period. According to statistical comparison between the TFM and MRM. two models had similar predictive capability but TFM based on $O_3$ concentration higher than 60 ppb provided more accurate forecast than MRM. It was concluded that statistical model based on TFM can be useful for improving the accuracy of local $O_3$ forecast.

  • The 2nd order response surface method (RSM) has been carried out to get optimum thermal design for enhanced heat transfer on square channel with bleed holes. The RSM was used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged navier-stokes equation. Turbulence model for heat transfer analysis used RNG k-epsilon model. The wall function used enhanced wall function. Numerical local heat transfer coefficients were similar to the experimental tendency. Two design variables such as attack angle of rib (${\alpha}$), rib pitch-to-rib height ratio (p/e) were chosen. Operation condition considered bleeding ratio per bleed hole ($BR_{hole}$). A response surface were constructed by the design variables and operation condition. As a result, adjusted $R^2$ was more than 0.9. Optimization results of various objective function were similar to heat transfer in channel with and without bleed flow. But friction factor was lower than channel without bleed flow.

  • A general equivalent circuit model is developed for a wireless energy transfer system composed of multiple coils via coupled magnetic resonances. To verify the developed model, four types of wireless energy transfer systems are fabricated, measured, and compared with simulation results. To model a system composed of n-coils, node equations are built in the form of an n-by-n matrix, and the equivalent circuit model is established using an electric design automation tool. Using the model, we can simulate systems with multiple coils, power sources, and loads. Moreover, coupling constants are extracted as a function of the distance between two coils, and we can predict the characteristics of a system having coils at an arbitrary location. We fabricate four types of systems with relay coils, two operating frequencies, two power sources, and the function of characteristic impedance conversion. We measure the characteristics of all systems and compare them with the simulation results. The flexibility of the developed model enables us to design and optimize a complicated system consisting of many coils.

  • The ship motion of large LNG ships affects ships' safety. The purpose of this study was to estimate the transfer function of roll motion among the hull motion of 153,000 m3 class LNG vessels. The ship motion transfer function was modeled using a Linear Time-Invarient system with single input, single output, and transfer function. The transfer function of the ship motion was estimated by the system identification method using single ocean wave as input of the model, and using the roll motion of the LNG ship obtained through ANSYS as the output of the model. The usefulness of the experimental results was evaluated using the precision and estimation rate of the model for cases wherein the different transfer function dimensions. Results of the experiment showed a precision at 99% and 98%, with estimation rate at 78% and 50%. From these results, we found the proposed method of estimating the transfer function of ship motion in this study reasonable. In the future, data of ship motion in actual sea conditions will be acquired and it will be applied to make the construction of models with multiple inputs and multiple outputs for practical use.

  • This paper proposes a frequency transfer function synthesis for simplifying a high-order model with time delay to a low-order model. The model reduction is based on minimizing the m function weighted by the numerator polynomial of reduced systems. The proposed methods provide a better fitness within low frequency. Four examples are given to illustrate the feasibilities of the suggested schemes.

  • Dynamic characteristics of a hydraulic power supply are studied theoretically and computationally. The transfer function between the supply pressure and the load flow is derived considering relief valve dynamics, accumulator dynamics, and flow line dynamics. Frequency responses and time responses are obtained in many conditions using the transfer function and nonlinear mathematical model respectively.

  • Color reproduction n CRT monitors needs colorimetric characterization concluding two stages with 3x3 matrix and three TRCs (Tone-Reproduction Characteristics). The 3x3 matrix is based on the additivity of RGB emissions, and the TRC represents the non-linearity between the input digital counts and the output luminance. The objective of this project is to evaluate the accuracy of color reproduction on LCD monitors using conventional CRT model(GOG model). For two different manufacturers, colorimetric characterizations of desktop LCDs have been performed. Because the transfer function for LCD is very differ from TRC of CRT, some researchers had reported that GOG model is inadequate for the colorimetric characterization of LCDs. However in our experiment, the degree of accuracy was dependent on the shape of electro-optical transfer functions of LCD. It has been founded that the GOG model could be applied for LCD monitors having monotonically increased Electro-optical transfer function.
