  • Due to change in circumstances in the 2000s such as severe birthrate decline and shortened military service period, the armed forces of the Republic of Korea is currently turning to technologies and equipments from manpower, developing it to become high-tech, high-speed, and complex, resulting in an environment in which a single mistake could cause a mass mortality crisis. It is also evident that, considering aspects such as safety training curriculums and achievements of advanced countries and private education, hands-on training is a must in preventing suicides and accidents in the military, and establishing safety training centers is crucial for systematic and effective hands-on training.Soldiers who are joining the army as of now have experienced the Internet ever since they were born and easily use both virtual and augmented reality, and the current level of science and technology has developed to the point where most of the public safety experience centers are able to be replaced by virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR). Therefore, considering the aspects such as installation space, construction costs, maintenance costs, user characteristics, and education effects, other than for those trainings where real models and objects are more effective such as first aid training, it is with a strong recommendation that establishing military safety training facilities with VR/AR (Virtual and augmented reality) is a must in the coming future. We have derived the need for hands-on training by considering the development of virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), analysis of operation status of the public safety experience centers, characteristics of military units, installation and maintenance costs, and proposed plan to establish safety training centers where effective training performance can be achieved at a lower cost than the public safety experience center. In addition, we suggested the scale of the required safety training center and the composition of the experience rooms considering the number of trainees and the environment of each military units. Given this analysis it will contribute to the prevention of military safety and suicide by building a safety training center in the future.

  • Foodservice management practices in 52 educare centers in Jeonbuk province were evaluated in order to provide basic informations and guidelines for the standardization of foodservice management and facilities in the educare centers. The survey was conducted using the structured questionnaire. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Only 10% of the centers investigated had the stationed dietitian, therefore most of foodservice management was not conducted by a professional personnel. The average number of kitchen employees was 1.3 and significantly different with type(p<0.05) and size(p<0.001) of the centers, which was not enough to meet the regulation. 2. Menu planning was performed mostly(59.6%) by managers and teachers of educare centers. Food items were purchased(94.7%) and recieved(91.6%) by kitchen employees or center managers and teachers. Produced foods were also evaluated(97.7%) and distributed(100%) by kitchen employees or center managers and teachers depending on their experience without any supervision of the professional personnel for the mass production. 3. Among the centers studied, 84.6% of them conducted nutrition education programs regularly by teachers. About 77.3% of them evaluated that these programs did not accomplish the proper training for good food habit because of the lack of nutritional knowledge(54.5%) and educational media(27.3%). 4. In general, the hygienic maintenance was evaluated as fair state to need the improvement. 5. Kitchen facilities and equipments were similar to those of home cooking and did not meet the standards for institutional practices. Besides, automated machinery and tools for safety, sanitation and improvement of work efficiency were far short. 6. Log book for the foodservice management was not prepared properly, which made the systematic planning and operation of the foodservice facilities difficult.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the hygiene status of 145 child-care foodservices, which were newly registered in the Center for the Children's Foodservice Management (CCFSM) in Changwon, Gyeongnam. Sanitary inspection checklist (40 food safety items) of Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) was used by the CCFSM in Changwon, Gyeongnam. Average score from the total safety items in 145 child-care foodservices was 21.41 points out of 40 points. Score gaps between the lower group (71 foodservices, 13.92 points) and higher group (74 foodservices, 28.61 points) showed a significant difference (P<0.001). The top five priorities of sanitary measures needing corrective actions for child-care foodservices were as follows: 'provide hand washing and sanitizing tools, and supply manuals on how to wash hands properly', 'supply record form for access/inspection', 'conduct education for cooks on standards in the selection of sanitizer for raw vegetables and proper methods to wash and sanitize raw vegetables', 'provide a refrigerator and a freezer with installed thermometers and temperature record monitoring logs', 'encourage separation of contamination operating zone and clean zone or conduct training for cooks on ways to prevent cross-contamination by performing work separately by the hour'. For the higher group, most were national/public facilities (83.3%), whereas in the lower group, private facilities (62.1%) were more common than national/public ones (37.9%). Therefore, a significant difference (P<0.001) was detected in the two groups. These private facilities should be supported.
