  • The purpose of this study was to develop a theoretical model to analyze the vibration of finite railways forced by distributed moving loads. The vibration characteristics of compliantly supported beam utilizing compressional damping model were investigated through the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The distributed moving load was analyzed as the cross correlation function on railways. This allowed the use of statistical characteristics for simulation of the moving train wheels on the rail. The results showed there is a critical velocity inducing resonant vibration of the rail. The mass spring resonance from the rail fastening systems exhibited significant influence on the resulting vibration response. In particular, the effect of the viscoelastic core damping was investigated as an efficient method for minimizing rail vibration. The decrease of the averaged vibration and rolling noise generation by the damping core was maximized at the mass-stiffness-mass resonance frequency.

  • Derailment is likely to have a direct connection with human life and must be eliminated. A traveling safety evaluation method based mainly on derailment coefficient has already established. But this method is very difficult because Derailment is caused by multiple factors. To evaluate the derailment factor of running train that runs on the curved track, we make use of mechanism that wheel loads and lateral forces were affected by track and rolling stock parameter. In this paper, deal with a search on the parameter and derailment factor. According to results of computer simulation value of Q/P, running safety is connected with operation velocity, curve radius, cant, track irregularity, suspension stiffness and static wheel load ratio, etc.

  • To study the trafficability on soft and cohesive benthic terrain, a soil bin is designed and constructed. The information of shear strength of pacific seafloor and the results of dimensional analysis of vehicle-train system are used as basic datum for concept design of soil bin. Cohesive benthic terrain is modeled by means of bentonite-water mixture. The shear strength of the mixture is measured by motorized shear meter. Several facilities are constructed for mixing and evening modeled soil, transporting vehicle model. The shear strength in soil bin is investigated for depth, age and velocity. The result of this study is used as basic information to the experiment, study for development of crawler on benthic terrain.

  • The aim of this study was to identify the characteristics of the flexion withdrawal reflex modulated by the hip angle and hip movement in spinal cord injury (SCI). The influence of the hip position and passive movement were tested in 6 subjects with chronic SCI. Each subject placed in a supine position and lower leg was fixed with the knee at 5 -45 degree flexion and the ankle at 25-40 degree plantar flexion. A train of 10 stimulus pulses were applied at 200 Hz to the skin of the medial arch to trigger flexion reflexes. From results of the regression analysis, static properties of normalized muscle activation of flexor muscles have the linear relationship with respect to hip angle (P< 0.05). In order to verify the neural contribution of flexion reflex, we compared the static and dynamic gains of estimated muscle activations with measured EMG of ankle flexor muscle. Form this study, we postulate that the torque and muscle response of flexion withdrawal reflex have linear relationship with hip angle and angular velocity.

  • This paper presents a neuro-control algorithm for the speed control of a direct drive motor without the knowledge of the dynamics of the motor and the characteristics of a nonlinear load. In the field of motor control, it is not possible to directly use the back-propagation method in order to train a network since the desired output of the network is not known. Hence, we propose an extended back-propagation algorithm to force the closed loop system to give desired results. Experimental results shown that the proposed neuro-controller can reduce the unknown load effects and have the good velocity tracking capabilities.

  • A numerical method is proposed to synthesize automotive cam profiles. An arbitrary acceleration profile for the cam follower motion is divided into several segments, each of them is described by a Hermite curve. A cam profile is defined by control point locations and control variables assigned to each segment. Closed form equations are derived for velocity and displacement constraints which should be satisfied for the curve to be a cam profile. Because the method is flexible and provide arbitrary local controllability, any types of cam acceleration profile can be reproduced by the method. The method is expecially useful for the design of roller type OHC valve trains which need precise local control in the cam profile design to avoid under-cutting problems.

  • Technical requirements associated with derailment to ensure running safety of train are discussed. By using estimated derailment coefficient ratio, interaction of various parameters such as operation velocity, curve radius, cant, track irregularity, suspension stiffness and static wheel load ratio are analyzed to enhance derailment safety. Sensitivity analysis in terms of pattern and passage speed of curve is performed by using rolling stock and track conditions associated with SMRT Line No. 5.

  • Slope stability is affected by various factors. For safety management of slopes, monitoring systems have been widely constructed along railway lines. The representative data from the systems are variations of ground profile such like ground water level and pore water pressure etc. and direct displacement measured by ground clinometer and tension wire sensor. Slopes are mainly effected by rainfall and rainfall causes the decrease of factor of safety(FOS). Because FOS varies linearly by the variation of ground water level and pore pressure, it has a weak point that could not define the time and proper warning sign to secure the safety of the train. In this study, alternative of FOS such as reliability index and probability of failure is applied to slope stability analysis introducing the reliability concept. FOS, reliability index, probability of failure and velocity of probability of failure of the slopes by variation of ground water level are investigated for setting up the specification of safety management of slopes. By executing case study of a slope(ILLO-IMSUNGLI), it is showed to be applied to specification of safety management.

  • This research studies the effects of community noise around railway, noise from the inside/outside noise of the High-Speed EMU. First study part of this year is research of the noise source. The modeling methodology for prediction of noise level including the frequency property, velocity dependence, sound pressure of noise source is investigate. Second part is research on the sound transmission loss. An exclusive program which could analyze the sound transmission loss of the floor, the sides(mirror), insulator in High-Speed EMU has to be developed. Third part is research on the train inside/outside and Prediction for community Noise. In order to predict the noise when the High-Speed EMU is traveling at the outside and along tunnels, the result of the research can be derived by evaluating the effect of the noise on the upper/middle parts of the carriage and on the railroad way round about with using the program.

  • In this paper, we propose a new fuzzy-neural network control scheme for the speed and azimuth control of a mobile robot. The proposed control scheme uses a gaussian function as a unit function in the fuzzy-neural network, and back propagation algorithm to train the fuzzy-neural network controller in the frame-work of the specialized learning architecture. It is proposed a learning controller consisting of two fuzzy-neural networks based on independent reasoning and a connection net woth fixed weights to simply the fuzzy-neural network. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is illustrated by performing the computer simulation for a circular trajectory tracking of a mobile robot driven by two independent wheels.
