  • As railway trains run faster high performance braking system are necessary because more energy needs to be dissipated due to increased kinetic energy. In this work a portable computer based prediction system for emergency braking distance has been developed. The algorithm for the system is based on braking theory and empirical results of actual braking test. The computer is connected to the sensors to measure the velocity and the braking pressure in real train. It is expected that this system will be utilized to predict emergency braking distance during actual operation of the train

  • This paper explored an effective scheduling method for the Seoul-Busan High Speed Rail. It is important to decide train frequency influencing on scheduling method. Main factors to decide train frequency are location of station, social economic index, land use of station area and travel demand. In this paper, we focused on travel demand which is critical factor to decide train frequency. And we studied on standardized scheduling method. Simulation method is used to analyze the performance of explored method.

  • This paper proposes the connection without cables among display devices in a train using piconet of the Bluetooth. Nowadays, each train has a number of the display devices that are connected with many cables to lead the passengers, so it has the waste of resource and factor of fault. This paper proposes the improvement schemes of those problems in a train using piconet of the bluetooth with low cost, low power, and high security.

  • In railway train operations, a braking distance between two trains must be controlled on their speeds to avoid rear end collisions. The distance is decided by some parameters such that propulsion and braking performance of trains, gradient and etc. When determining this block distance, it is important to consider the two aspects that safety insurance at train running and increase of train running frequency. In this paper, we showed a methodologies of equiblock by consideration gradients and calculated optimal block speeds on the basis of the equivalent block distance.

  • Recently, the microprocessor with network function based control system instead of conventional microprocessor is widely used for industrial applications, and also these technologies are widely adopted for train control and monitoring in modem rapid transit system. The purpose of this paper is to propose a criteria for data transmission, which was designed and realized through Korea High Speed Train. Noise, distortion and attenuation are always present in data transmission system and strictly limit performance. This paper describes a method to calculate the propagation constant, attenuation constant, phase velocity and length of stub.

  • In AC railway feeding system, three phase received from the network is changed to two phase power sources with different phases. The main circuit breaker installed train is automatically open by track signal when the train passes the neutral section. In order to continuously supply power source to train, the changeover system was used in Japan. Therefore, the train is able to operate under powering condition when it was passing through the neutral section. We investigated the control method to reduce the inrush current flowing main transformer in train. To examine the inrush current and operate the static semiconductor switch such as thyristor, we manufactured the small scale the changeover system and carried out performance tests.

  • Korea is a mountainous country, with as much as 70% of the area is covered by hills and mountains. This geography places constraints on the minimum radius of curvature for the rail network. It was expected that the speed of trains could be enhanced on the existing railway network without a huge investment in infrastructure by using tilting trains. The development of tilting trains in Korea started in 2001 as research & development project. A 6-car prototype test tilting train, called the Tilting Train eXpress (TTX), was built in December 2006 and experimental trials began in 2007. TTX has distributed power, is designed to run at 200 km/h, and has a planned service speed of 180 km/h. In this paper, we first describe the performance of tilting train, and then present the estimated running times, and the time saving compared with today's conventional trains and non-tilting trains, based on the Jungang line. So the time saving could be separated into two effects by higher track top-speed and tilting devices.

  • KTX is the high speed train which is designed for 300km/h in maximum operation speed. But its long train set may cause unstable characters as swaying of the tail of a train and when the train is running on conventional line, its running safety is a point to be considered cautiously. In this study, we evaluated the running safety by the numerical analysis using VAMPIRE and compared the result with the test result of KHST, which is being in performance tests, for verifying the validity of analysis results

  • Tilting train has been developed to increase the operational speed of the trains on conventional lines which have many curves. This train are tilted at curves to compensate for unbalanced carbody centrifugal acceleration to a greater extent than compensation produced by the track cant so that passengers do not feel centrifugal acceleration and thus trains can run at higher speed at curves. This paper developed tilting train to evaluate electromagnetic interference(EMI) performance of TTX(tilting train express) with maximum operation speed 160 km/h on Ho_nam Conventional Rail[1].

  • This paper introduces the development of the analysis and design program of valve train system. In order to verify the stability of design and improve the performance of system efficiently, it is required that integrated and interactive simulation program. The presented program is developed in the base of the object-oriented, capsulation, modulization, OLE (objected linking and embedding) and various design theory. It contains the expandability and flexibility of the structure. In addition to that, it is programmed to make the convenient user interface by using the visualization programming. This program can support the modification of the valve element as well as the development of the valve train system in the beginning of design. It is expected to save the cost and time for the design of valve train system.
