A Slow Portscan Attack Detection and Countermove Mechanism based on Fuzzy Logic (퍼지 로직을 이용한 느린 포트스캔 공격 탐지 및 대응 기법)

  • The slow port scan attack detection is the one of the important topics in the network security. We suggest an abnormal traffic control framework to detect slow port scan attacks using fuzzy rules. The abnormal traffic control framework acts as an intrusion prevention system to suspicious network traffic. It manages traffic with a stepwise policy: first decreasing network bandwidth and then discarding traffic. In this paper, we show that our abnormal traffic control framework effectively detects slow port scan attacks traffic using fuzzy rules and a stepwise policy.

Analysis of Accident Severity by the Level of Traffic Culture (교통문화 수준별 교통사고 심각도 분석)

  • This study aims to analyze and discuss the accidents based on the level of traffic culture (LOT). In pursuing the above, LOT are divided into three categories based on the standardized index of traffic culture. Also, this study focuses on developing the accident models using GLM (generalized linear model). The main results are as follows. First, the null hypotheses that the ratios of fatal and serious injured persons (FSI) are the same over categories are rejected. Second, as the common variables, the ratio of turn signal usage and elderly population are analysed to be impacted to the ratio of FSI. Third, the traffic culture indicators among 5 accident factors which give impact to 'high level' are judged to affect the reduction of FSI. Fourth, compared to other levels, the traffic law violations among 7 accident factors of 'medium level' are estimated to influence the increase of FSI. Finally, in 'low level', the increasing ratio of traffic culture index compared to that of previous year and the number of hospital beds per person are evaluated to be significant to reducing the ratio of FSI. This study can be expected to give some policy implications to regional traffic safety policy-making.

Analysis of the Effect of Traffic Safety Investment on Traffic Accident Reduction Using Panel Data (패널자료를 이용한 교통안전투자 종류별 사고감소 효과)

  • There are many investment budget drafts in the filed of a road traffic safety. The traffic safety budget is spitted into following three major areas: 1) traffic safety facility (Engineering), 2) traffic enforcement (Enforcement), and 3) traffic safety education & public relation (Education). The three area are known as so-called 3E policy. This study investigates the effect of the investment in the 3E policy on the reduction of traffic accidents analyzing the data annually collected from the 15 local governments during 1992 to 2007. The analysis employing the traffic accidents as the dependent variable reveals that the effect of the investment is higher if same amount of investment is made on areas of the traffic safety education and public relation than the area of facility improvement. The similar conclusions are resulted from the separate investigation of traffic accidents data by 6 different types. All the results consistently indicate that the current traffic safety investment being primarily made on traffic safety facility needs to shift to the areas of traffic safety education and public relation budget.

  • This paper proposes a high-speed contention resolution scheme featuring high flexibility to the bursty traffic for an input buffering ATM switching architecture and its hardware strategy. The scheme is based on the threshold on the occupancy of the input buffer. As the proposed scheme utilizes the threshold, it has high flexibility to the fluctuations of the input traffic. The hardware strategy for the proposed policy is provided with the aim of the simple structure that achieves the reduction of the signal path and the power consumption. The performance on the average buffer size of the proposed policy is performed and compared with the conventional schame under the bursty traffic through both the analysis based on the markov hain and the simulation. The relations among the parameters on the proposed policy is analyzed to improve the performance.

PLANNING AGNAINST NOISE IN HONG KONG

  • The impacts of road traffic noise in Hong Kong are pervasive. About one million peoople are affected by road traffic noise at levels higher than a standardd recommended fro planning of new developments. The Environmental Protection Department of Hong Kong has promulgated a set of planning standards and guidelines for reference of planners, engineers and architects in their preparation of land use proposals which include road and residential developments. This paper will describe, in connection with road traffic noise in Hong Kong, the planning objectives, the various practicable mitigation measures available to a high density modern city, and the achievements through conscientious planning efforts made over the past years.

  • Difficulties in riding, driving and parking are a common issue which inevitably appears in city urbanization and city modernization development all over the world. However, those cities differ in controlling the traffic. According to the specific practice in Shanghai, this article presents the various factors which affect the traffic capacity and the operation quality. This article also outlines transportation system management technique of overall coordination and comprehensive control in the following seven aspects: controlling traffic motivation; improving traffic distribution; reasonably and scientifically selecting travel mode, travel route and travel time; reinforcing traffic management and road construction. The article finally suggests that above mentioned points are cost-effective ways of handling traffic plight for metropolitan transport.

Analysis of abnormal traffic controller deployed in Internet access point (인터넷 액세스점에서의 이상 트래픽 제어기 성능분석)

  • ATC (Abnormal traffic controller) is presented as next generation security technology to securely support reliable Internet service and to guarantee network survivability, which is deployed in Internet access point. The key concept of the ATC is abnormal traffic monitoring and traffic control technology. When fault factors exist continuously and/or are repeated, abnormal traffic control guarantees service completeness as much as possible. The ATC with control policy on abnormal traffic is superior to the ATC with blocking policy as well as conventional network node, when the ratio of effective traffic to abnormal traffic is higher than $30{\%}.$ When traffic intended unknown attack occurs, network IDS is high false positive probability and so is limited to apply. In this environment, the ATC can be a key player to help the network node such as router to control abnormal traffic.
