As a rapid increase of mobile network usage, many studies on solution for network traffic's demand problem have been done. Especially network environment measurement area provides basis for solving network traffic's demand problem by finding causes of problems through accurate network analysis. However, as increase of demand for smartphone, we should consider effects of mobile platform's property measuring mobile network. In this paper, we design a network traffic measurement system considering mobile platform. Through the information from packets, this system calculates packet transmission delay and throughput. We minimize computation cost required for a mobile device that is a client in this system. When fully using network resources, we found that Wi-Fi has shorter transmission delay, higher maximum throughput and lower loss rate than 3G, Android has shorter transmission delay and higher maximum throughput than iOS, and UDP has longer transmission delay and higher maximum throughput through this system.
Binocular-pair images obtained from two cameras can be used to calculate the three-dimensional (3D) world coordinate of a feature point. However, to apply this method, measurement accuracy of binocular vision depends on some structure factors. This paper presents an experimental study of measurement distance, baseline distance, and baseline direction. Their effects on camera reconstruction accuracy are investigated. The testing set for the binocular model consists of a series of feature points in stereo-pair images and corresponding 3D world coordinates. This paper discusses a method to increase the baseline distance of two cameras for enhancing the accuracy of a binocular vision system. Moreover, there is an inflexion point of the value and distribution of measurement errors when the baseline distance is increased. The accuracy benefit from increasing the baseline distance is not obvious, since the baseline distance exceeds 1000 mm in this experiment. Furthermore, it is observed that the direction errors deduced from the set-up are lower when the main measurement direction is similar to the baseline direction.

Traffic information can be broadly categorized into point information and spatial information. Point information can be obtained by chocking only the presence of vehicles at prespecified points(small area), whereas spatial information can be obtained by monitoring large area of traffic scene. To obtain spatial information by image processing, we need to track vehicles in the whole area of traffic scene. Image detector system based on global tracking consists of video input, vehicle detection, vehicle tracking, and traffic information measurement. For video input, conventional approaches used auto iris which is very poor in adaptation for sudden brightness change. Conventional methods for background generation do not yield good results in intersections with heave traffic and most of the early studies measure only point information. In this paper, we propose user-controlled iris method to remedy the deficiency of auto iris and design flame difference-based background generation method which performs far better in complicated intersections. We also propose measurement method for spatial traffic information such as interval volume/lime/velocity, queue length, and turning/forward traffic flow. We obtain measurement accuracy of 95%∼100% when applying above mentioned new methods.
Increasing network traffic and multimedia application services need realtime analysis of network traffic for improvement of QoS and effective management of network resource. Because difficulty of measurement based on software method, study of meter architecture for efficient capture function is necessary. Therefore we design and implement hardware metering system for efficient packet capture using embedded linux. And we analyze required bandwidth of system bus and memory for 10Gbps traffic through simulation.

This study developed the optimization method to correct the measured traffic volume of the expressway that minimizes the measurement error and satisfies the traffic balancing with TCS. For this purpose, the model constructed in this study was compared and verified with the true traffic volume. Verification result of the model, it was found that the measurement error is reduced when the measured traffic volume is corrected for the traffic volume balance. As a result of applying it to 40 links of the Kyoungbu expressway, the measured traffic volume was corrected by -8.1%~9.6% and the measurement error was decreased as much as the corrected traffic volume. This research is meaningful in improving the accuracy of the measured traffic volume of the expressway, while the scale and role of the expressway are increasing.

The network environment is presently becoming very increased. Accordingly, the study of traffic classification for network management is becoming difficult. Automatic signature extraction system is a hot topic in the field of traffic classification research. However, existing automatic payload signature generation systems suffer problems such as semi-automatic system, generating of disposable signatures, generating of false-positive signatures and signatures are not kept up to date. Therefore, we provide a fully automatic signature update system that automatically performs all the processes, such as traffic collection, signature generation, signature management and signature verification. The step of traffic collection automatically collects ground-truth traffic through the traffic measurement agent (TMA) and traffic management server (TMS). The step of signature management removes unnecessary signatures. The step of signature generation generates new signatures. Finally, the step of signature verification removes the false-positive signatures. The proposed system can solve the problems of existing systems. The result of this system to a campus network showed that, in the case of four applications, high recall values and low false-positive rates can be maintained.

Traffic Matrix estimation has always caught attention from researchers for better network management and future planning. With the advent of high traffic loads due to Cloud Computing platforms and Software Defined Networking based tunable routing and traffic management algorithms on the Internet, it is more necessary as ever to be able to predict current and future traffic volumes on the network. For large networks such origin-destination traffic prediction problem takes the form of a large under- constrained and under-determined system of equations with a dynamic measurement matrix. Previously, the researchers had relied on the assumption that the measurement (routing) matrix is stationary due to which the schemes are not suitable for modern software defined networks. In this work, we present our Compressed Sensing with Dynamic Model Estimation (CS-DME) architecture suitable for modern software defined networks. Our main contributions are: (1) we formulate an approach in which measurement matrix in the compressed sensing scheme can be accurately and dynamically estimated through a reformulation of the problem based on traffic demands. (2) We show that the problem formulation using a dynamic measurement matrix based on instantaneous traffic demands may be used instead of a stationary binary routing matrix which is more suitable to modern Software Defined Networks that are constantly evolving in terms of routing by inspection of its Eigen Spectrum using two real world datasets. (3) We also show that linking this compressed measurement matrix dynamically with the measured parameters can lead to acceptable estimation of Origin Destination (OD) Traffic flows with marginally poor results with other state-of-art schemes relying on fixed measurement matrices. (4) Furthermore, using this compressed reformulated problem, a new strategy for selection of vantage points for most efficient traffic matrix estimation is also presented through a secondary compression technique based on subset of link measurements. Experimental evaluation of proposed technique using real world datasets Abilene and GEANT shows that the technique is practical to be used in modern software defined networks. Further, the performance of the scheme is compared with recent state of the art techniques proposed in research literature.

The development and demand for the system that provides users with traffic information and efficient road use have continued. also, this system provides the basic technology of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS). The most used traffic information collection tools are Vehicle detectors (VDS) and short-range wireless communication (DSRC) on express way. In order to generate reliable traffic information, it is necessary to efficiently manage and utilize the collected data as well as high-quality traffic data collection and processing technology. In this study, traffic information collection·processing·provision systems were investigated, and analyze the current status and problems of traffic information collected through VDS. Based on this, we would like to present an improved collection algorithm that utilizes the Kalman filter for vehicle information measurement of VDS data. By using the algorithm of this study, it is possible to minimize the time delay of the estimated value as well as the noise removal that inevitably occurs during measurement.
A point based speed enforcement system(SES) has been widely used in roadways to reduce the operating speeds and potential traffic accidents. Recently, the needs for introudcing new SES using point-to-point speed measurement was presented, however, no practical guidelines or justification of the system was available. This study investigated the effectiveness of the current SES and introduction of the new SES through user interview survey method. Survey results showed that 33% of respondents were unsatisfactory to the current way of SES operation, which was 11% higher than satisfactory respondents, and about 70% of the respondents supported the introduction of point-to-point based SES operation. A majority of respondents preferred the straight roadway segment, bridge and tunnel, and curved roadway segment for a start application site with the segment length of 1-5 km long. Using these survey results, an introduction scheme was discussed in terms of legal bases, installation criteria, and operational guidelines.

In this paper, we propose a method about the extraction of vehicle and tracking trajectory for moving vehicle tracking system in road. This system applied to the monitoring system of the traffic flow for ATMS(advanced traffic management system) of ITS(intelligent transport system). Also, this system can solve the problem of maintenance of loop sensor. And we detected vehicle using differential image analysis. Because of the road environment changes by real time. Therefore, the method to use background image is not suitable. And we used Kalman filter and innovation value and variable search area for vehicle tracking system. Previous method using fixed search area is sensitive to the moving trajectory and the speed of vehicle. Simulation results show that proposed method increases the possibility of traffic measurement more than fixed area traffic measurement system.
