This subject is about the study on digital contents development of traditional Korean furniture to find our traditional peculiarity that is disappearing gradually in the rapid computerization. In order to carry out this subject, we established some methodology to industrialize the culture, the style, the manufacturing process and the configuration details of traditional furniture in the form of digital contents with reference to books regarding the furniture in Chosun Dynasty and furniture collection in possession of museum, gallery, etc. This study made a database about traditional Korean furniture systematically to be used as basic materials that are available for diverse culture business as a whole with Korean identity in the future. The contents of this study are as follows: 1) Style of traditional furniture 2) Decoration of traditional furniture 3) Manufacturing process of traditional furniture 4) Configuration details of traditional furniture The contents work of traditional Korean furniture was to secure the identity of Korean furniture from the point of culture and to provide an alternative of modernization by re-illuminating the superiority of traditional furniture in discontinuation from the point of industry.

This study explores terminology for legs and feet in the traditional Korean and Western furniture. Pieces of traditional Korean and Western furniture have been largely made of the eco-friendly material, natural wood, and thus important in the latest trends of wellness, such as LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) and a green period. Legs in traditional Korean furniture appeared in dinging tables, and the feet in wardrobes. The limited use of legs and feet seems to be influenced by floor-oriented lifestyles of Korean ancestors. In contrast, most pieces of Western furniture, which is from the chair and bed culture, have various styles of foot and leg. While th two groups are from different backgrounds, both of them have developed various legs and feet applying natural subjects such as animals and plants to each of their furniture including wardrobes, cabinets, dining tables, chairs, consoles, etc. It is also found that the traditional Korean furniture can be influenced by a traditional Chinese chair foot called Neabunmajae, which describes inner horse foot. Neabunmajae was known in Korean furniture legs and feet, but the terminology has not been known. The study suggests that terms which appear in traditional furniture but are unknown should be studied more.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the preference of traditional lacquered furniture and to suggest furniture design guideline. Subjects consisted of 336 residents aged up 20 years old in Seoul and Kyung-ki. area. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. The results of descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test and ANOVA are presented. The result of this study showed that the traditional and environmental values of the traditional lacquered furniture were highly appraised. With a furniture plan, modernized and stylelike design was desired and the table type furniture were wanted. And preference of traditional lacquered furniture was distinct by sex and age groups. Women and older age group wanted more decorative and luxury design than other groups. These results provide a practical guideline for the development of the traditional lacquered furniture design for users.

Currently, the beauty of Korean traditional furniture has been changed irregularly and even the traditional character has been distorted. The purpose of the study is to examine the current situations of traditional bedroom-furnitures that are reproduced and sold at the markets in Korea. The eight companies were selected as a research sample. All those companies also participated at the "Living-design Fair 2003 and 2004" The traditional bedroom-furnitures were the limited products as a research target. As a method of the research, the content analysis such as names, dimensions and types was used. The results of research were as follows： 1) Using the confused names for a same item, 2) Changes of dimensions, 3) Diversification of the types, 4) Mixing with Japanese style furniture in the Korean traditional furniture market. On the basis of the results, selected eight companies were divided into three types： First, representation of traditions near to the prototype, second, reforming to be suitable to the contemporary life-style, and the last, mixing of Japanese style furniture. This research will make us be concerned about reproduced Korean traditional furniture and established the position to seek for Koreanity. This research expected to be a reference to develope Korean traditional furniture industry, opportunity of verification for reproduced Korean traditional furniture companies and find out the change of life-style through a comparison analysis of the original traditional furniture.furniture.

The purpose of this research is to provide new direction on the field of the furniture design and to establish the identity of Korean furniture design as the flow of craft's juxtapose mixture era where it mix and match Korean traditional craft style materials with the modern furniture design. In other words, it is intended to create new furniture design and propose beautiful Korean luxury furniture design based on the precious unique culture with the traditional craft style, juxtaposition of modern furniture, and reinterpretation. It should grant artistic values that can satisfy consumers having various tastes and scarcity values, plus it should put out aesthetic and creative expressions in furniture design putting into the beautiful traditional craft form values. Furthermore, it is required to create new design through values and spirit, materials, techniques, forms, pattern, and usages by interacting, coordinating, and combining tradition and modern East and West, plus craft and design.

The culture of Korea shows political and religious discrimination by changed the era, but in the culture the inherent spirit of Koreans has been more specific at various angles to. But in the last several decades looking at the domestic furniture design field, the introduction of Western technology with high-tech, the mechanical plastics of modern Western European furniture, and imitations have been flooded. Owing to them our spirit were soon altered and made to face the current leads to confusion. Fortunately, in the latest national and international design fair the domestic furniture companies are breaking the ambiguous identity of the design in the meantime they keep studying and developing of our spirit and the demands of the times. Moreover, a new awareness and heightened interest on Korean traditional and stylish furniture are more elevated. At this moment, a study on the Connectivity of Aesthetic Consciousness Appearing in Korean Traditional Architecture and Furniture is required to overcome the today's confusion and to establish identity and the direction of the domestic furniture industry. Thus, this paper purposes to present the new direction for domestic furniture industry by researching and analyzing on the Korean traditional architecture and traditional furniture with the Korean spirit and a sense of beauty.

This study intended to explore English of furniture tenn in relation to the joints and moldings in traditional Korean wood furniture, a base of Korean wood furniture, for the development of Korea furniture in the future. The joints such as butt joint, rabbeted joint, mitered joint, mortise-and-tenon joint, fist joint, and finger joint, and the moldings such as a piece of thread molding, half-circle molding, cove molding, flat molding, and triangle molding were analyzed between English and Korean language. The results were only basic terms which must be researched and unified in the traditional Korean furniture. Therefore, the terms in relation to the types, the details, the hardware, and so on, will have to be studied in terms of the meaning originated from the traditional craftsmen.

The purpose of this study is to find out the current trend of tradition in Modern Korean Residential-furniture. Sample furniture of 374 pieces made by 21 manufacturers which have been shown in the market in September 2000, are selected for this study. To find out the traditional trend, frequency and percentage are used. As the result of the study, the major trend of design in Modern Korean Residential-furniture is modern style based on Modernism. However, it was found that there are tendency while large firms add western traditional elements in their furniture, small manufactures are trying to develop original furniture design which expresses Korean traditional characteristics. It means that the Korean traditional characteristics are not widely spread in Modern Residential-furniture.

Furniture is very important in our lives. Especially traditional wood furniture of Korea has been developed practically in the area of form, compositions, manufacturing technique and etc because of the rapid environmental changes. Jang Sung has a very efficient geographical characters to get the adequate timbers for furniture. And the late Mr Seol SeokCheol had devoted all his life to out-and-out artisan spirit for the purpose of korean wood furniture manufacturing. In this paper, l try to explain regional and cultural characteristics of JS, special designs for wood furniture of JS, manufacturing process of traditional wood furniture, especially in the center of his works. Tradition is an essential power to a country and a race. Now we are living living in the state-of-art age and we share all the cultures and merchandise globally but nevertheless, a nation and a race who has a unique tradition is still a cultural advanced country and these works of our ancestors are the best souvenir for the tourists. So we have to memorize these facts and we will have to raise and develop our power of traditional cultures, including from the traditional wood furniture.

This article aimed to provide objective and practical information on wood terms of making furniture focusing on the wood species that furniture designers and firms in Korea have used to create furniture from the traditional up to the modern times. Through the content analysis method with wood information from literature related to furniture at home and abroad, studios of making the traditional Korean furniture, domestic furniture firms, and the catalogues of Korean crafts council and Korea furniture society, the wood species of making furniture was studied in the terms showing the number of the species classified in needle leaf tree and broad leaf tree. As a result, the furniture wood terms were analyzed about 230 species including 200 broad leaf tree and 30 needle leaf tree. 74 out of 100 domestic species studied have been used from the traditional up to the modern time for creating the traditional Korean wood furniture. The 230 species were classified by such detailed uses as furniture mainly and the related small objects, interiors, architecture, exteriors, materials like plywood, toys, musical instrument, exercise equipment, household items, and so on. In addition, some of the terms were clarified such as Madika to Jelutong, Karin to Paudauk and Narra, Red sandalwood to Indian rose wood, and Cherry blossoms from home, the same family as Cherry from abroad but the different species, and so on.
