이영희의 의상작품에 응용된 한복의 요소 (Design Elements of the Korean Traditional Costume Applied in the Works of Lee Young-Hee)

  • The fashion designers in Korea can achieve the winning position in the competitive international market of fashion industry by adapting our own traditional beauty to the modem fashion design through the modernization of the Korean traditional styles. Therefore, this study attempted to analyze the works of the active Korean fashion designer, Lee Young-Hee, focusing on the subject how she incorporated the modem fashion with the elements of Korean traditional costume. In order to study this subject, both quantitative and qualitative research methods were used to collect and analyse the design elements of Korean costume used in the designer's works found from the major fashion magazines, FASHION TODAY, WWD, ELLE, BAZAAR, Marie Claire, Areumdown-Uri-Ot, The Beauty of Korea and FASHION SHOW from 1993 to 1999. The collected research data, 95 works, was counted and analyzed in terms of the formal characteristics borrowed from Korean traditional clothing items and their application techniques. Other aesthetic characteristics of her works such as color, fabric and pattern were also analyzed. As a result of the study, it was found that Lee Young-Hee has adapted many different kinds of major Korean clothing items including 'chima', 'paji', 'po', and 'chogori'. Also it was apparent to note that the formal characteristics of Korean traditional clothing items were successfully incorporated into her fashion design works expressing the beauty of oriental grace, naturalism, sophistication, and above all, the modem sense.

중국 전통 여성복 디자인 요소의 조형적 분석과 전통복식을 융합한 현대 중국 여성복 선호도에 관한 연구 (A study on the formative analysis of Chinese traditional women's clothing design elements and preference of modern Chinese women's clothing reflecting traditional clothing)

  • In order to reflect traditional elements in modern design, designers should be able to creatively apply elements of traditional Chinese clothing. To understand this, a deep understanding of and insights into the traditional clothing culture are required. In this study, the characteristics of traditional Chinese women's clothing from the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties of China to the Qing Dynasty were analyzed by dividing them into silhouette, color, pattern, materials, and detail. The characteristics of the silhouette were classified into A, H, X, and O types, of which types A and H were the most common. As for the color characteristics, there are relatively many five cardinal colors, and for the contrast of colors complementary colors were mainly used. As the for pattern characteristics, real patterns, animal patterns, character patterns, geometric patterns, and mixed patterns were used. Four types of materials were mainly used: silk, hemp, cotton, and wool. The detail characteristics were also anlyzed by classifying them into collar, sleeve, neckband, and gusset. Based on the results of this analysis, a satisfaction survey was conducted on the design of modern Chinese women's clothing. The result of satisfaction with design elements showed that the images of vest and suit were most preferred, H and X silhouettes, and yellow and white were the most preferred. Geometric and plant patterns were preferred, as were silk and acetate materials. Based on the result of chi-square analysis of design element preferences according to the characteristics of the subject, there was no difference according to occupation, residential area, or income, and there were differences in silhouette, color, materials, and detail according to age.

청주 도시한옥 주공간의 변용에 나타난 지속적 요소에 관한 연구 (Sustainable Elements in Transformation of Dwelling Space of Urban Traditional Houses in Cheongju City of Korea)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the present status of dwelling spaces and deduct sustainable elements in transformation of them by comparing the restored drawings with the surveyed drawings focused on traditional houses that exist in the urban area of cheongju city in Korea. In alteration and extension of these traditional houses, scale of a private room became larger as it has been connected and expanded, the exterior main hall (Daecheong) became the interior living room, and the conventional kitchen was westernized and changed from K type to DK or LDK type. The toilet located at outside was installed by the attached aisle (Toetgan) inside and the existing room. The extension was completed with equipments, storage space, and rental accommodation. The conservative and sustainable elements in the various transformation of them are as follows. Firstly, it was to maintain 3 rooms such as main room (anbang)-main hall (daecheong)-detached room (gunnunbang). Secondly, it was to sustain the circulation of kitchen and arrangement of the - type worktable even though it was westernized. Thirdly, extension of storage space was completed less than 600 mm within the eaves. Although there were functionally and structurally many changes in 18 houses, 4 houses had maintained wooden floor of main hall, 5 houses long planked wooden floor of the attached aisle, and 12 houses rafter ceiling of the main hall and the attached aisle.

한국 기층문화의 전통복식에 나타난 오방색 특성 (The Characteristics of Five-elements Color of Traditional Costume of Korean Basic Culture)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine a unique characteristic of the colors of the costumes in Korean basic culture in the aim of seeking Five-elements color found in Korean civilian's costume culture. The scope of Korean basic culture was 32 items specified as an import intangible cultural asset in the side of religion and art for the majority of the Korean people. Within these limits, the colors of the dress, accessories, instruments were extracted by comparing with the naked eye in NCS Color System. The result of this investigation was that Red was yellowish red and high chromatic and deep tone within 4area. Blue was purplish blue and high chromatic and deep tone within 4area, similarly Red. Yellow was pure yellow and high chromatic and bright tone within 3area. Red and Blue in Korean basic culture were more primary color and more high brightness than Korean traditional colors. Religion and art fer Korean civilian revealing the Korean basic culture reflected impending real-life of Korean civilian who intend to overcome their desperate reality at using Five-elements color in their costume.

일본 마찌나미 보존지구 타케토미마을(竹富島)의 경관활용실태에 관한 사례연구 (A Case Study on Actual Conditions of TAKETOMI Village Ladnsacpe on Machinami Conservational District in Japan)

  • The aim of this study is to provide a conservational and practical using of traditional elements and actual conditions of Taketomi village design as specified Machinami Conservational District in far south Okinawa of Japanese Islands. It was comprised in main contents that this study surveyed historical and cultural elements, dwelling area and housing, and environmental elements designed by participation in Taketomi village people. It was surveyed on from July 5th to 6th in 2006. As a results of this study, I could suggest a conclusions as follows; firstly, it was necessary for them to conceive historical and cultural elements as they designed traditional tourism village. Secondly, Machinami District of Taketomi village has a traditional identity that conserves landscapes of red roof house and coralline street by original form. Thirdly, the form and spatial organization of traditional house keep cultural heritage in Taketomi style. Lastly, they, by themselves, build a rules and ideas of green tourism for managements with experts and NPO.

  • The special characters of traditional architecture has been formed suitably correspond with the purpose of usage and function, which was influenced with various environmental factors such as natural, social, physical, cultural and thoughtful. There was some differences in building placement and space composition according to the regional character such as climate, customs, and a gap of convention (long-established custom) and one's social position system and custom character of family. However, the essential characteristic of traditional architecture are nicely contain the era's architectural character. But these characters are developed or extinct according to the environmental factors. This paper is looking for the elements that formed social cultural element and background architect's thought. And, with the historical background, there are looking for Occupation. A traditional architecture had been formed correspond with the purpose of usage and function, which was influenced with physical nature environment elements such as regional character, climate, customs and social cultural environment elements such as government, economy, society, culture and thoughtful elements.

복식에 나타난 오행색 의미에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Meaning of the Five Elements Colours in the Costume)

  • Influnced by the official uniform system of China, the colour culture of Korea has changed with time. The ancient colour has included the philo-sophical conception as well as the meaning of thoughts. Forming its tradition, the colour has been accepted in usual life. The philosophy of the Five Element has been developed in the area of Oriental culture and it has influnced to the colour of costume. The five colours(blue, red, yellow, white and black) as the Five Elements colours have disticted the social position. Owing to the fackt, the colour costume has preserved the important meaning. In accordance with the theory of the Five Elements the five colours of costume told its purpose, social position and age. Moreover the relationship among the Five Elements, the direction and the reason have been applied to it with time. Yellow and red have been usually used by kings and high ranking officals, white has been the basic colour for traditional Korean clothes, which hs indicated the integrity symbolizing our race. The Five Elements Colours preserving the theory of Korean the Five Elements have been the conception of Korean traditional colour and they have been developing as the meaning of custom.

홍콩 소재 베트남 레스토랑의 음식관련요소 및 공간요소의 특성에 관한 연구 (Evaluation of the Characteristics of Food-related Factors and Interior Space Factors in Vietnamese Restaurants in Hong Kong)

  • This study was conducted to investigate and analyze food related and space related elements of popular Vietnamese restaurants in Hong Kong to identify restaurant images related to food, to examine how Vietnamese traditions are applied to such restaurants, and ultimately, to get their implications for us. Luxury Vietnamese restaurants in Hong Kong tended to be located in major office buildings and famous shopping malls in the downtown area; therefore, they were highly accessible to foreigners. In addition, most Vietnamese restaurants were quite formal in size or atmosphere. The food-related elements of the luxury restaurants reproduced traditional menus, but the table setting and service generally adopted a formal Western style setting. The presentation of foods was also creative and contemporary, to suit international customers' tastes. Regarding the spatial elements, restaurants serving traditional menus had interiors influenced by the French colonial period, while those serving contemporarily adapted menus had interiors with simple contemporary images emphasized by Vietnamese traditional decorations. These characteristics allowed foreigners from diverse countries to access the restaurants without a sense of rejection. Casual restaurants were primarily exposed to many people on busy roadsides, but they tended to be inferior in terms of size and quality. Apart from size and price level, food-related elements failed to reflect Vietnamese unique traditional characteristics. The outward appearance consisted of basic construction materials (glass, chassis, and bamboo) instead of those representing Vietnamese architecture. Additionally, the interior of the casual restaurants contained traditional elements or objects more frequently than luxury restaurants, but they looked rather disorderly and lacked harmony. Overall, the image of casual restaurants was degraded by the use of cheap and low quality finishing materials and furniture. The results of this study may be useful for organizations promoting the Branding of Korea or businesspeople and designers promoting the globalization of Korean foods.

  • 애니메이션 영화 <나의 붉은 고래>는 최근 몇 년 동안 중국 애니메이션 영화의 새로운 시도로 시장의 표현이든 예술 창작이든 모두 한 단계 진보한 것이다. 최근 10년간의 창작 과정에서 <나의 붉은 고래>는 중국 신화의 전설을 깊이 파헤쳐 현대 예술과 결합시켜 표현했다. 본 연구는 영화 속 중국 전통문화 요소를 연구의 출발점으로 삼아 캐릭터 디자인, 장면 디자인, 민족문화 등 다양한 측면에서 분석했다. <나의 붉은 고래>의 전통문화요소 분석을 통해 애니메이션 영화가 더 발전할 수 있는 방향을 찾아본다. 현대예술을 중국 전통문화와 융합시켜 민족문화의 특색을 살리는 것 등이다. 바로 <나의 붉은 고래>에 중국 문화코드가 많이 녹아 있고, 정교하게 설치돼 있어 좋은 평가를 받을 수 있다.

한국적 감성 캐릭터를 활용한 패션 디자인 연구 I - 한국 전통색상과 문양을 응용한 아동복 디자인 개발 - (A Study on Fashion Design Using Korean-Style Emotional Characters I - Design of Children's Wear Based on Korean Traditional Patterns -)

  • In response to the need of developing children's wear design using traditional elements, this study purposed to develop fashion designs emphasizing contemporary images based on the symbolism and formativeness of traditional dresses. For this study, we reviewed the definitions and symbolism of traditional colors and traditional patterns using previous research, and classified them according to formative shape. In addition, this study made three pieces of dress and developed unique designs by applying the traditional patterns and elements of Korean traditional dress styles. The research methods were as follows. First, we examined the images of Korean traditional colors and classified the symbols and meanings of the colors. Second, we identified the types of patterns, and classified them into shapes and symbols. Third, we designed and made actual works by applying traditional patterns. Based on the theoretical studies as presented above, we developed contemporary casual hanbok designs for children by applying symbolic and formative traditional patterns and using DTP (digital textile printing).
