  • The purpose of this study is to propose a ‘nature-friendly’ kindergarten playground design process, which is adopted from users needs. The concept of the design was decided by the pictures drawn by children, kindergarten owner's educational philosophy, and by the request of the teachers. As a result the concept approached to 'our neighborhood (Korean traditional village)'image, and was planned with a focus on an open space, which allows nature-like elements(earth ground, trees, flowers vegetable farm water and sand etc.) and various play activities.

  • Cohousing is communities balance the traditional advantages of home ownership with the benefits of shared common facilities and ongoing connections with your neighbors. It is characterized by private dwellings with their own kitchen living-dining room etc, but also extensive common facilities. These cooperative neighborhoods are one of the most promising solutions to many of today's most challenging social and environmental concerns. The purpose of this study is suggest planning direction to cohousing as alternative house. It focuses on the planning method through case study. The result of the study are summarized as follow ; Size of cohousing is 20${\sim}$50 family. Location of cohousing is urban. Type of house is detached house+row house. Size per family is 0${\sim}$15m$^2$. Common house makes up kitchen, dining-room living-room, guest room nursery room and so on.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how the concept of Korean traditional characteristics has been reflected in modem residential complex. The specific objective of this study is to identify the features of space planning in the exterior design of modem residential complex. This study is based on the content analysis in the site-plans of the selected case and adopteded in quantitative analysis for spatial characteristic using the space syntax modeling methods.

DETERMINANTS OF APARTMENT RENTS IN THE SEOUL METROPOLITAN REGION: SPATIAL ECONOMETRIC APPROACHES

  • This research aims to analyze the determinants of apartment rents in the Seoul Metropolitan area using spatial econometrics approaches. Since spatial econometrics approaches have advantages to solve limitations of ordinary multiple regression such as spatial dependence and spatial heterogeneity. This research includes structural variables such as number of rooms and baths, neighborhood variables such as number of housing units in the apartment complex, and location variables including distances to subway stations, to traditional markets, to educational institutes, and to urban services such as parks, etc. The result shows that the accessibilities to the CBD, to subcenters, to subway station, to school, and to parks contribute to apartment rent uplift and also shows different spatial variations in rent premiums by accessibility variables. In particular, apartments located south of Han river along the Lines 2, 3, 7 and 9 have the highest rent premiums due to the accessibility to the subway.

  • Interest in family living culture is decreasing in Korea, compared to interest in culture technology and culture industry which are rapidly increasing. Although expenditure on cultural activities is generally increasing, activities that are most preferred are concentrated on personal leisure or public performances. This study takes an in-depth look at the underlying issues related to family living culture in order to highlight its necessity and importance to productive family life. For this purpose, the dynamics of past and current family living culture in Korea are analyzed, with a particular focus on the role of education. Trial family living culture program are suggested based on overall findings.

  • This study is performed to establish the basis of the development of unique tropical botanical garden that will be connected with the identity of the local inheritance resources, 'Silla'. The glasshouse is the traditional 'Silla; housing and the landscape facilities are tried to imagine 'Silla' kingdom. Combination of the plant exhibition and the cultural inheritance resources can create their own unique theme. The garden divided into five spaces by life cycles of plants and the purpose of appreciation, the palm garden, ornamental foliage garden, flower garden, water lily garden, and tropical fruits garden. The appropriate flowers and trees are selected by their flowering time and the purpose of enjoyment. Especially, Ficus religiosa is the symbol plant of buddhism which is the state religion of 'Silla'.

  • The Modern architecture, generally represented as Functionalism, had brought the important problems of the absence of cultural meaning and of the public alienation. Robert Venturi is one of the major architects who suggested the new theory of Architecture. Postmodernism, for solving these problems . Therefore the purpose of this study is to analyze his design ideas and works especially for four residential projects : Vanna Venturi House, Guild House, Brant Johnson House and Brant House, His design ideas are Complexity and Contradition, Symbolism. Ornamentalism and Pluralithy of meaning . The various historical and traditional elements are refereed as symbolic and ornamental elements. The symbolic and cultural meaning of architecture through their images, memories, and associations concerning historical motifs help communicate with the public . Robert Venturi tries to pursuit Populism in architecture through historical allusion and pop art.

A Study on the Characteristic of the Folk Houses' Plans compared with Central Region's ones in Che-chun City (중부형민가와 비교를 통한 제천지역 민가의 평면특성에 관한 조사연구)

  • After 18th century in Korea, a tendency of the traditional folk houses shows not only the typical types but also the cultural areas in terms of each regional part. The existing folk houses are selected in order to compare the characteristic of the plans with those of the central region in Korea. Moreover this region has been a collided zone of culture and military from the old period of the Three Kingdoms, because the district of Che-chun is located between the southern part and the central one. So its culture and housing plan showed as unique forms, so-called the Culture of Frontier and Composite. Consequently the purposes of this study are to grasp the characteristic of those plans and to compare the plan types with ones of the central region. For the attainment of the above goal, this investigated study is prosecuted by means of the existing 6-folk houses in Che-chun city.

  • The populations of major cities in Australia are increasing rapidly and facing an acute housing shortage. Traditional apartment procurement techniques involve lengthy lead-times and factory-based, or offsite manufactured (OSM) multi-storey apartment buildings may offer the opportunity to help fulfill the need by significantly reducing build times. Other advantages of OSM may include superior quality, low weight ratios, economies of scale achieved through repetition of prefabricated units, use on infill sites, sustainable design standards and better occupational health and safety. There are also positive labour and training implications, which may help to alleviate an industry-wide shortage of skills through use of semi-skilled labour. Previous uncertainties about the adoption of offsite due to the high capital costs and perception issues were generally based on pre-cast concrete structures, which are quite a different building type in terms of flexibility, construction, delivery and finishes. Identification of drivers and constraints assists in the determination of current industry status, allows for a benchmark to be established and future opportunities and directions for OSM to be determined.

A Study on the Construction Process of the Garden in 'Unbo's House' Focused on the Individual Relationship (인물관계로 본 '운보의 집' 정원의 조영과정)

  • The study is aimed at establishing basic data to identify the original forms of the garden in Unbo's House. Through interviews and related data comparison analysis the ideas and major events of the person involved in establishing a garden in Unbo's House. Also, derived the direct and indirect effects of these people on gardening. The results are as follows: First, Those directly related to garden in Unbo's House are representative figures of cultural heritage and traditional art in Korea. Based on their expertise and abundant experience in traditional spaces, they contributed greatly to the creation of Unbo's House as a traditional space. Unbo Kim, Gi-Chang who directly influenced Unbo's House gardening, which affected the site selection, location, and the installation of major garden plant plants and traditional landscaping facilities. Hyegok Choi, Soon-Woo recommended Wabon Kim, Dong-Hyun at the request of Kim Ki-Chang and was involved in the overall plan. Housing design, space design and design of major facilities such as pond were confirmed Wabon Kim Dong-Hyun. Second, Kim, Gi-Chang's wife Jeong, Rae-Hyun, who motived to construct a garden. Nosan Lee, Eun-Sang and Korean artist Lee, Seok-Ho were created a signboard and board of the Pillar to encourage simple life in paintings. The themes of the article motived image as creative. In addition, Kim, Hyeong-Sik and Kim, Wan who son of Unbo, has been with Unbo for a long time, watching and influencing garden changes in Unbo's House. Third, The main factors that influenced the garden by character are as follows. Unbo Kim, Ki-Chang had a thorough record-setting spirit and his longing for his mother and wife affected the selection of the site and setting the direction of the garden. His art world with the symbolic emphasis of traditional landscapes, including traditional facilities, and especially plant materials. Choi, Sun-Woo reflected his traditional consciousness and experience in the construction of Unbo's House. Kim, Dong-Hyun applied the basic framework of a traditional building based on Yeonkyongdang hall in Changdeokgung palace. He also reflected on the traditional landscaping design the facilities of ponds acquired through excavation of Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, Gyeongju. Nosan Lee, Eun-Sang and Lee, Seok-Ho completed their unique place in Unbo's House. Kim, Hyung-Sik was involved in the process of changing, while Kim Wan ran the Unbo's House which he inherited from Kim, Ki-Chang.
