From the end of the 18th century to the end of the 19th century, the late 19th century was a genre of a new art that was in contrast to the distribution between social class and low class, and it was also a popular culture that attempted to transform the late Joseon Dynasty's social class. It is no exaggeration to say that it is the origin of the Korean folk art, started as popular art concepts, use colorful techniques and decorations which doesn't yield to ordinary iconography. But, because of the attempt of this technique was used by lower class, the meaning of the idea was lowered from iconography to secular picture. Ethics character picture, passed on to the present from going through the upheaval cultural time, was started from secular picture and transformed into hyukpil time illustration, and it represented popular arts until now. This thesis aims to reflect the meaning, various visual expressions and the lifestyle of Ethics Character Picture of filial piety and brotherly love, which is a unique genre of popular arts. Also, propose to suggest about the kinetic typography using video media, and how the traditional ethics character picture, which are combined with video technology, effects to the advertisements. These kind of attempts will show the world about the korea's traditional contents, and through the various media information it can be recreated as national symbolic key words. Furthermore, its meaningful to pass down the noble and cultural Ethics Character Picture of filial piety and brotherly love to younger generations. And by realigning to modern expression, it is predicted that it will be significantly meaningful to pass down and make the younger generations to understand to spirit of the ancestors. This will allow various attempts to reconstruct various items of contents from Korea's traditional contents to new media content that merged with video media.
In this study, it was witnessed that a variety of tests are implemented in a type of convergence of multimedia such as photos, sounds, and videos as well as letters and drawings, components of existing traditional comics as comics are digitalized and are converted to various devices. Therefore, we studied the concept of multimedia comics as a basis of this study by judging that new barometer to comics lies in convergence with such multimedia. After recognizing components of multimedia comics which are currently emerging, we categorized them into three types depending on how to use these elements. First, convergence type webtoon has a very similar format with existing vertical scrolling webtoon and has characteristics that background & effects sounds are added to emphasize the features of webtoon, or photos or videos are inserted in part, and there is no function to control these elements; Second, motion comic, a medium format between comic and animation has a characteristic that sound, video, paging are auto-played like watching animation but it keeps the format of comics within one frame; Third, interactive comic has a characteristic that effects sound, motion, and story are made by active participation of viewers. As a result of analyzing comics which having above multimedia characteristics, its implications are as followings: First, multimedia elements should be used depending on genre, age, and media; Second, high level of control technology considering the features of comic-viewers is needed. In other words, in continuously evolving media environments, comic contents being proper to targets and use purposes of viewers should be developed. For this, multimedia elements of comics should be used in order that comic-viewers can have active & interactive communication with contents.
Study about existence of illusion which human beings feel from imitated image based reality have been continuing by copy theory and conventionalism for a long time. Traditional copy theory which had controlled representation theory from plato have explained illusion by similarity of image and representation objects. According to copy theory, image is natural sign unlike language but the late in the 20th century, conventionalism from N, Goodman insists they are not any special similarity between image and representation objects. They insist image and conventional sign just as language. These opposit theory rearranged conventionalism by the entrance on the cognitive science. The copy theory couldn't explain the problem of representational gap between reality and duplication, but photo media makes new paradigm about theory of the illusion. The problem of representational gap was disappeared by CGI images on the base of digital media. We are exposed exquisite duplication for a example, movie, advertisement, printings. Sometimes duplications are more real than the original works. Digital is a non-material object by 0 and 1. Specially real lighting skill and mechanism are copied perfectly by photon mapping skills and the duplications are produced more real than the original works. By disappearance of representational gap, we need new theory model for explaining of digital illusion and copy theory can be the key.
Interactive Media Art has been developed a lot in digital age. Especially, the audience try to make interactions by accessing the world of art as one of main interacting figures, while they used to be totally separated from the art in traditional art. Also, it is one of exclusive features distinguished from the other art genres. In this thesis, the intercommunication process of interactive media art is classified and compared with Merleau-Ponty's corporeity phenomenology theories. Merleau-Ponty's corporeity phenomenology insists integrated perception through body against the western intelligence philosophy focusing on binomial reasons. Merleau-Ponty's corporeity phenomenology, which suggested the new perception way towards the art, is analyzed in this thesis by comparing it with detailed factors of Intercommunication process of Interactive Media Art. The Intercommunication process of Media Art is classified into , , , , . Additionally, they are studied and compared with the concept of , , , , out of Ponty's corporeity phenomenology theories. Therefore, it is concluded clearly that corporeity, synesthesia, poly sensation and spaciality drawn from Intercommunication process of Media Art have something in common with Ponty's corporeity phenomenology theories rather than the other art genre or minimalism art styles. Furthermore, a new direction of study upon modern Interactive Media Art is suggested.
The digital cartoons market is looking for a new growth momentum as the radical increases of the demands and markets about the mobile contents with portable instrument popularization. The conventional digital cartoons markets which are based on web-toon, page viewer cartoons and e-paper cartoons have been studied various fields to overcome some limitations such as the traditional cartoons had. The mobile cartoons which have been changed more and more, have some canvas limitations due to the mobile screen size. These limitations lead to the communication problems between the cartoonists and the subscribers and resulting some obstacles of mobile cartoons activations. In this paper, we developed a authoring tool applied the Screen Flow method to overcome inefficiency of conventional authoring methods. This proposed method can reflect the cartoonists' during the process of authoring mobile cartoons, thereafter we studied about the authoring method of mobile cartoons and its effects. For the convenience of users creating and distributing content in a way has been studied.
Recently, traditional books based on printing on the paper have expanded to e-book media in smart device because of developing digital technology. Especially, app book applied application makes users' experience increase and provides immersion to them, because it allows them basically delivering information, educational effect and fun elements with multimedia technology. There are various experimental trials to make enhance effect of reformatting for application media. The purpose of this study is to analyze reformatting effect for app book with funology which is convergence of digital technology and a fun. Then this article would provide design guide and be applied to new application contents. For this research, the first of all, we would discuss concept and elements of funology by publication including thesis, articles, and books. Secondly, this article will be focused on 'Moo, Baa, La La La!' which is reformatting application for iPad to analyze type of funology. Thirdly, we would make sure that app book makes users get emotional effect comparing original book by FGI(Focus Group Interview). In conclusion, sensitive funology used the sound allows user emotional effect and they prefer to intuitive and immediate motion and response of interactive funology. In other way, funology of fun in itself which is strong concept in original book diminishes in app book. Then users concentrate interactive factors like game structure. This results make that app books could be created by strength of original contents and advantage of funology. Therefore this makes us expect the possibility of reformatting effect with funology and we need to discuss the points of issue that there are considerations and limitations to successful app book for users.
With the emergence of SNS, TV, newspapers and radio, which are one-way communication media, have become less important. Therefore social networking enables social networking beyond the constraints of time and space, and communication and emotional communication required for social relations have emerged as a factor in the importance of social media. Social media, which is based on rapid connectivity and scalability, is an medium of expression that is advantageous for companies and consumers to communicate more easily than traditional advertising media. Advertising can form a consensus that consumers and companies can create an atmosphere of friendly conversation because of the social media that has the efficiency of communication. This study compares two ads. One is the advertisement of 'Bear and Hare', an animation of John Lewis department store in the UK, where a new form of advertising marketing strategy is fused with emotional storytelling and social media. The second is an advertisement of LG, 'I love you LG' to be. Social media should be remembered as a warm and loving company in the heart of customers through open communication with customers, rather than companies that pursue merit profits by using social media ads as a medium of emotional transmission to consumers. It is a study on useful advertising strategy that can pursue the sales of the company at the same time.
The character is not dependent on an original story world any more. It is not limited to it's own story, but gets out and expands the other story with new character, background story, and event regardless of genre and media. The purpose of this study is to analyze why should this phenomenon happen from the media perspective and to build a character storytelling model through the specific examples. With the advent of the digital paradigm the storytelling model is emphasized character storytelling. Character is no longer limited to just one narrative and extended beyond the boundary narrative, media and genre. There are four background. First, disappearance of the big story with the advent of postmodernism and the emergnece of small story. Second, the emergence of fandom culture and charater's liberalization. Third, character as public goods with database. Fourth, changes in author's position. In fact, in the traditional narrative theory there has been discussion about the character all the time. But character storytelling meets transmedia storytelling, discussions were accelerated. The character was preceded by a narrative independent existence. Even if that character has occurred even while leading cause narrative. In this paper, we suggest two model as specific methodology to expand the story world fixed character. One is phychology transition, another is roll transition. This study get the value to build the new storytelling model with digital paradigm.
Recently, 3D displays are supplied in the 3D markets so that the demand for 3D stereoscopic contents increases. In general, a simple method is to use a stereoscopic camera. As well, the production of 3D from 2D materials is regarded as an important technology. Such conversion works have gained much interest in the field of 3D converting. However, the stereoscopic image generation from a single 2D image is limited to simple 2D to 3D conversion so that the better realistic perception is difficult to deliver to the users. This paper presents a new stereoscopic content production method where foreground objects undergo alive action events. Further stereoscopic animation is viewed on 3D displays. Given a 2D image, the production is composed of background image generation, foreground object extraction, object/background depth maps and stereoscopic image generation The alive objects are made using the geometric transformation (e.g., translation, rotation, scaling, etc). The proposed method is performed on a Korean traditional painting, Danopungjung as well as Pixar's Up. The animated video showed that through the utilization of simple object transformations, more realistic perception can be delivered to the viewers.
For several decades in history of cartoon, it was about the era of publishing tendency based on printing technique just until few years before now. Like these, base on the progress of various forms in webtoon, this study will suggest 3 concept about expansion of Spatial Expressions of expression and cognition such as 'Reminiscent of The Vertical Image', 'The Vertical Panorama' and 'The Morphing into Spaces'. Also, , , the works of Doha Kang who is in the spotlight as the webtoonist of avant-garde and dynamic works, will be examined and analysed as the texts. Doha Kang was selectied as a 'Contemporary Twenty Webtoonist in Korea' from a survey of the cartoon's experts in korea by Bucheon Cartoon Information Center in 2009. He has recognized as the most experimental and be influential webtoonist from beginning of webtoon era to today. In this context, the analyses of his two works that was published in 2007, 2009 each, will helps understanding from diverse viewpoint about webtoon's expressions and structures. Furthermore, this study helps focus on values of webtoon as expansion art of Spatial Expression.
