  • Small BAseline Subset (SBAS) technique using multi master interferograms can be effective to detect surface deformation in forest area. In this paper, The analysis reveals area of 2-dimension surface deformation at Seguam Island in Aleutian Arc., Alaska. We acquired ERS-1/2 data from track 201 and 473 datasets on Seguam Island from 1992 to 2008. This study analyze surface deformation applying Differential Interferometry Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) and SBAS time series method using two adjacent tracks. As a results, it was calculated that subsidence -1~2 cm in LOS direction and - 2~3 cm in vertical direction. The horizontal direction was repeated contraction and expansion. The observation of 2-dimension displacements explained the volcanic activity on Seguam island. Also, it is believed to be used for basic data to estimate movements of magma source.

  • Wenchuan earthquake (Mw 7.9) occurred in Sichuan province, China, May 2008 had resulted in a huge fault displacement around the Lungmenshan fault. Preliminary results of the fault displacement observed by ALOS PALSAR interferometry are presented. The surface deformation by the Wenchuan earthquake was reported up to 10m consisting of thrust- and right-slip compnents. A significant reduction in ionospheric density was also reported. Twenty differential interferograms and twenty multiple aperture SAR interferometry (MAI) pairs were produced over four ALOS tracks. It was observed from differential interferograms that i) LOS deformation decreases steadily from northnorthwest of the Longmenshan fault to the fault, ii) the LOS deformation sharply increases at areas around the fault, and iii) the decrease of the LOS deformation is observed from the Longmenshan fault to the south-southeast of the fault. Horizontal movement of the reverse fault displacement can better be observed by MAI technique, and the MAI phases show that i) the south-southeast directional reverse fault displacement (negative along-track deformation for an ascending track) of the north-northwest block gradually increases to the Longmenshan fault, ii) the reverse fault movement of the south-southeast block is sharply reversed to the north-northwest of the fault, and iii) the northnorthwest movement gradually decreases to the south-southeast of fault. Although the Lonmenshan Fault line is a center of earthquake epicenter, the boundary of surface movement exists to the north-northeast of the fault. Since the ionosphere was not stable even forty days after the mainshock, MAI phases were seriously corrupted by ionospheric effect. It is necessary to acquire more data when the ionosphere recovered to a normal state.

  • The Paved Track is applied to reduce maintenance cost of conventional line. The Paved Track could be used in all types of lines including earthwork, bridge, tunnel and turnout sections. In case of earthwork section, the construction joint is the most critical factor to track durability. The construction joint does not affect to the track structure directly, but the gap due to discontinuity of slabs may affect to the long-term serviceability. To evaluate this problem, the accelerated track test has been performed on the construction joint and the middle part to of the real scale Paved Track. The purpose of this test is that evaluate the vulnerability of construction joint section comparing the trends of settlement and earth pressure under repeated loads of construction joint with those of the middle slab part.

  • In this study, the structural analysis of the track was performed according to the gap between the rails due to thermal expansion by the frictional contact between the wheels of the train in motion. The equivalent stress and total deformation at the condition for which the gap between joints are wide as the winter condition (model B) can be seen to happen more than at the summer condition (model A) in which the joints are narrow. If the results of this study are applied to the design of railway tracks, it is thought to be highly useful in preventing fatigue failure and increasing its durability. By applying the durability analysis at the seam of railroad track by season, this investigation result is seen to be favorable as the convergent research applied to the aesthetic design.

  • This work elaborately investigates the influences of the guideway geometry parameters and track irregularity on the dynamic performances of the suspended monorail vehicle-guideway system (SMVGS). Firstly, a spatial dynamic analysis model of the SMVGS is established by adopting ANSYS parameter design language. Then, the dynamic interaction between a vehicle with maximum design load and guideway is investigated by numerical simulation and field tests, revealing the vehicle-guideway dynamic features. Subsequently, the influences of the guideway geometry parameters and track irregularity on the dynamic performances of the SMVGS are analyzed and discussed in detail, and the reasonable ranges of several key geometry parameters of the guideway are also obtained. Results show that the vehicle-guideway dynamic responses change nonlinearly with an increase of the guideway span, and especially the guideway dynamic performances can be effectively improved by reducing the guideway span; based on a comprehensive consideration of all performance indices of the SMVGS, the deflection-span ratio of the suspended monorail guideway is finally recommended to be 1/1054~1/868. The train load could cause a large bending deformation of the pier, which would intensify the car-body lateral displacement and decrease the vehicle riding comfort; to well limit the bending deformation of the pier, its cross-section dimension is suggested to be more than 0.8 m×0.8 m. The addition of the track irregularity amplitude has small influences on the displacements and stress of the guideway; however, it would significantly increase the vehicle-guideway vibrations and rate of load reduction of the driving tyre.

  • Ballast track needs maintenance works because it is supported by the compressible trackbed and subgrade layers. Maintenance works are essential to secure riding comfort and extend the life cycle of it. The necessities of maintenance works are determined from track irregularities measured by EM120. Track irregularities is the results of the track deformation. Therefore, it is natural to evaluate the cause of it. This paper focuses on the points the track irregularities come from the trackbed and the subgrade. Nondestructive techniques, such as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Portable Falling Weight Deflectometer (PFWD) are applied to evaluate the trackbed conditions, ballast layer thickness and vertical track stiffness, in the test section 500m long of Gyungbu line. The trackbed investigation results are compared with the track irregularities measured by EM120 and maintenance works. Conclusively, it was found that some maintenance works were unnecessary on the test section.

  • In this study, by considering the rail fastening support distance and the distance between the bridge and the abutment, the behavior of concrete track installed on a railway bridge end deck and the bridge end rotation were analyzed. In order to analyze the track-bridge interaction, bridge and abutment specimens with concrete track structures were designed and used in laboratory testing. At a constant fastening support distance, an increase in the bridge end rotation caused an increase in the displacement of the rail. Therefore, the displacement of the rail directly affects the rail and clip stress. Further, it is inferred that the results of multiple regression analysis obtained using measured data such as angle of bridge end rotation and fastening support distance can be used to predict the track-bridge interaction forces acting on concrete track installed on railway bridge deck ends.

  • Ballast layer has an important role in vertical stiffness and stability of railway track. In most of the Middle East countries and some of the Asian ones, significant parts of railway lines pass through desert areas where the track (particularly ballast layer) is contaminated with sands. Despite considerable number of derailments reported in the sand contaminated tracks, there is a lack of sufficient studies on the influences of sand contamination on the ballast vertical stiffness as the main indicator of track stability. Addressing this limitation, the effects of sand contamination on the mechanical behavior of ballast were experimentally investigated. For this purpose, laboratory tests (plate load test) on ballast samples with different levels of sand contamination were carried out. The results obtained were analyzed leading to derive mathematical expressions for the strain modulus ($E_V$) as a function of the ballast level of contamination. The $E_V$ was used as an index for evaluation of the load-deformation characteristics and bearing capacity of track substructure. The critical limit of sand contamination, after which the $E_V$ of the ballast reduces drastically, was obtained. It was shown that the obtained research results improve the current track maintenance approach by providing key guides for the optimization of ballast maintenance planning (the timing of ballast cleaning or renewal).

  • A seat track product is a car seat part that provides a base for vehicle seats. An ultra-high strength steel sheet is used to reduce the weight of vehicle body parts. However, the formability of an ultra-high strength steel sheet is poor because of its very low elongation and very high elastic deformation. For this reason, a new forming technology of an ultra-high strength steel sheet is required. The influence of spring-back of seat track parts on the shape freeze in forming processes was investigated to be solved by adjusting the appropriate tool design such as minus clearance between punch and die, and punch angle. This paper describes how to apply the spring-back prevention technique for improving shape freeze by using the ultra-high strength steel sheet with 980MPa to develop lightweight seat tract parts.

  • This paper examines a high-speed railway CRTS-II ballastless track-bridge system. Using the stationary potential energy theory, the mapping analytical solution between the bridge deformation and the rail vertical geometric irregularity was derived. A theoretical model (TM) considering the nonlinear stiffness of interlayer components was also proposed. By comparing with finite element model results and the measured field data, the accuracy of the TM was verified. Based on the TM, the effect of bridge deformation amplitude, girder end cantilever length, and interlayer nonlinear stiffness (fastener, cement asphalt mortar layer (CA mortar layer), extruded sheet, etc.) on the rail vertical geometric irregularity were analyzed. Results show that the rail vertical deformation extremum increases with increasing bridge deformation amplitude. The girder end cantilever length has a certain influence on the rail vertical geometric irregularity. The fastener and CA mortar layer have basically the same influence on the rail deformation amplitude. The extruded sheet and shear groove influence the rail geometric irregularity significantly, and the influence is basically the same. The influence of the shear rebar and lateral block on the rail vertical geometric irregularity could be negligible.
