The Lakhta Center is a Multifunction Complex Development (MFCD) consisting of 1) an 86 story office tower rising 462 m above the ground to provide high-end offices for Gazprom Neft and Gazprom Group affiliates 2) a Multi-Function Building (MFB) that includes, a scientific/educational center, a sport center, a children's technopark, a planetarium, a multi-transformable hall, an exhibition center, shops, restaurants, and other public facilities 3) a Stylobate 4) "The Arch, which forms the main entrance to the tower, restaurants, and cafes 5) underground parking and 6) a wide range of large public plazas. While each of the MFCD buildings is technically challenging in its own right, the focus of the paper is to present the development and integration of the structural and foundation systems of the bowed, tapered, and twisted shape of the tower into the fabric of the tallest Tower in Europe.
Because of the continuous growth of energy consumption and also the tendency to site power lines and pipelines along the same route, the close proximity of power lines and buried metallic pipelines has become more and more frequent. Therefore there has been and still is a growing concern about possible hazards resulting from the influence of power lines on metallic pipelines. When a ground fault occurs in an electrical installation the current flowing through the earthing electrode produces a potential rise of the electrode and of the neighbouring soil with regard to a remote earth. This paper analyzes the effects of ground faults when the current will flow into the soil from the foot of 345kV transmission line tower.

The lightning causes the damage of power system equipments as well as large power failure. Therefore, the insulation design should be established not only to decrease the damage of the facilities itself but also to increase the reliability of electric power system. This paper describes the useful way applying underbuilt ground wire and guy wire in transmission tower that safely protect the substation equipments. One or more shield wires under the phase conductor will not intercept lightning stroke, but they may improve reduce lightning voltages almost as effectively as if they were above the phase conductors. And the guy wires will mitigate the tower surge response. These would not only reduce backflashover possibility but also minimize crest and duration of surges entering the substation. EMTP is used to analyze the efficiency of the proposed methods.
A comprehensive probabilistic seismic hazard analysis was carried out in Istanbul to examine the seismotectonic features of the region. The results showed that earthquakes can trigger one another, resulting in the grouping of earthquakes in both time and space. The hazard analysis utilized the Poisson model and a conventional integration technique to generate the hazard curve, which shows the likelihood of ground motion surpassing specific values over a given period. Additionally, the study evaluated the impact of seismic hazard on the structural integrity of an existing masonry tower by simulating its seismic response under different ground motion intensities. The study's results emphasize the importance of considering the seismotectonic characteristics of an area when assessing seismic hazard and the structural performance of buildings in seismic-prone regions.

Traditionally, the GPS coordinates of a transmission tower have been measured at the center of the tower on the ground, which usually takes dozens of minutes. However, this method often produces errors of tens of meters or sometimes demands several hours due to signal interference from the huge steel structure of the tower. To solve this problem, in this paper, a new measuring method for GPS coordinates of steel towers is proposed. First, instead of measuring the center of a tower, four GPS coordinates of the edges of the tower are obtained by using a measuring device with three GPS modules, and then are averaged to find the center of the tower. When a measured value is deviated considerably by signal interference, a newly proposed algorithm filters out such an inaccurate coordinate, effectively calculating the center of the tower by using other edge coordinates. Through field tests, it was confirmed that this new algorithm could improve the task efficiency and its measuring accuracy for GPS coordinates in a GPS interference environment.

Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH) has been designed to avoid the blade passing frequency and any instability due to a coupling of dynamic characteristics between the main rotor and the airframe in ground operation. For these design objectives, the vibration analysis and the ground resonance analysis were performed to analyze the dynamic characteristics of the airframe and the main rotor. Then, the whirl-tower test was conducted to identify the dynamic characteristics of the main rotor and the ground vibration test (GVT) was conducted to identify the dynamic characteristics of the airframe. The GVT for KUH was conducted with the test conditions and test articles established in consideration of each flight and ground condition. This paper shows the method and technique for performing the GVT for KUH and presents the correlation technique and the results for the correlated analysis model.
The outgoing longwave radiation (Rlu) for estimation of evapotranspiration is essential to understand energy balance of earth. However, the ground measurement based Rlu has a limitation that the observation can just stand for the exact site, not for an area. In this study, remote sensing technique is adopted to compensate the limitation of ground observation using the geostationary satellite. We calculated Rlu using Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS). We validated Rlu from COMS with Cheongmicheon (CFK) and Sulmacheon (SMK) flux tower observations controlled by Hydrological Survey Center. The results showed that Rlu from COMS represented reasonable correlation with ground based measurement. Based on the results in this study, COMS will be able to be used for estimation of evapotranspiration.
For soft ground, a pile foundation is typically used as a substructure of transmission tower. However, differential settlement between the foundations can cause structural damage of transmission tower. The connected-pile foundation is a type of group foundation consisting of four foundations connected with beams, and it was suggested in USA and Japan. In this study, a series of 1/8 scale model pile tests were performed to investigate the effect of load direction and stiffness of connecting beam on the responses of connected-pile foundation. As a result, the load capacities of the connected-pile foundation were larger than those of the conventional group pile foundation. For example, under the given test conditions in this paper, the resistibility against differential settlement was improved significantly for connected-pile foundation and its efficiency was maximized when the stiffness of connecting beams is about 25% of the mat foundation.
This paper introduces the structural design and construction method for the foundation of the TOKYO SKYTREE, a new digital broadcasting tower in Tokyo, which has a height of 634 meters. The surface layer of the ground is occupied by soft soil, thus the foundation of this tower is an SRC continuous underground wall pile, designed and developed to have horizontal rigidity and pull-out resistance. The structural integrity and construction method of the wall pile was verified with an on-site full scale pull-out test concluding a maximum load of 40,000 kN.
With the transmission line the ratio of lightning breakdown the while whole breaking down is occupying a high share with average 72%, is a tendency which increases continuously. In order decreasing the back flashover faults from like this lightning breakdown, it is very important to maintain grounding resistance of tower below target. In this paper, we synthetically analyzed the grounding resistance reduction effect of tower foundation and standard ground connection from construction site, and investigated efficiency for ways to increase the length of counter poise and expand the size of conductivity concrete materials.
