  • Due to the fact that the speed of climate change in Republic of Korea exceeds the global average speed, sound conservation and tourism strategies should be prepared based on the comparison between the meteorological factors and the number of tourists. In this context, almost 70 percent of the industries in Ulleung-do are closely related to tourism; hence the significance of tourism is increasing. The annual precipitation variation does not show remarkable fluctuation, and most precipitation has a tendency to fall in summer and autumn However, for the years 2010 and 2011, a different trend was exhibited with higher winter precipitation than any other periods. Precipitation intensity is usually stronger in May (in the morning), June (in the afternoon), and no big difference is shown between morning and afternoon precipitation from July to September. The number of tourist is compared to both the precipitation at Ulleung-do and the number of advisories and warnings in the East Sea of Korea using correlation analysis. The results demonstrate that the meteorological factors that reduce the number of tourist are precipitation and the number of advisories and warnings.

One is to analyze the change of tourism geographies research trends in terms of research approach and major research themes. The other is to bring out the lessons from the research results for the development of Korean tourism geographies research. For these purposes, the selected papers and texts have been analyzed according to four research approaches: (1) empiricist approach, (2) positivist approach, (3) humanist approach, and (4) critical social theory approach. The major research themes are the explanation of destination through descriptive research in empiricist approach, spatial analysis and evolutionary research in positivist approach, tourist behaviour and place identity in humanist approach, and tourism and consumption in critical social theory approach. It is expected that the development of Anglo-American tourism geographies study will continue in the future because of the growth of tourism industry, the close relation of tourism and geography in nature, and the active contribution of tourism geographers.

  • Jeju Special Self-governing Province continues to try to attract tourists on the basis of an active investment in the tourist industry. But most of the researches and studies on Jeju Tourism were made on a viewpoint of hardware. Therefore, the researches and studies which are related to 'the inclination of tourists who visit Jeju Island', 'the tourist satisfaction by a selection of tourist destination' and 'tourists' activities after the visit to Jeju Island' are insufficient. Accordingly, this study will support a basic datum needed for formulating a policy of Jeju tourism by closely examining the related influences among the Jeju tourists' inclination, their satisfaction and their activities after a tour of Jeju.

  • This study was carried out to identify the key drivers behind the rapid growth of the cosmetic medical tourism industry in recent years and determine the future growth engines. Unlike previous studies that have focused on cosmetic medical tourism in the United States, Japan, and China, this paper examines the related trends in ASEAN countries, where the interest in cosmetic surgery has recently surged among young people, as part of the efforts to promote the expansion of the industry in this particular region. The results of the empirical study showed that those from the ASEAN region traveling abroad for cosmetic surgery found the medical professional's expertise in cosmetic surgery technology, medical care system, and administrative convenience in relation to communication and accessibility appealing, and this is what led to an intention to visit. As for another process that formed the intention to visit, it was the sociocultural attitudes towards appearance arising from the attractiveness of celebrities, and this had an impact on the intention to visit abroad for cosmetic surgery. Especially it was newly discovered, based on an empirical analysis, that sociocultural attitudes towards the appearance and attractiveness of celebrities could be a key influencing factor when it comes to the intention to visit another country for cosmetic surgery.
