  • The gains fur NC controller parameter are fixed when the controller is combined with a machine. However, the characteristics of controller could be changed as it has being used by the machine or other environmental conditions. Those result in that the tool positioning accuracy is influenced. The loading torque in servo motor influences on the tool positioning accuracy and it is controlled by the parameter gains. It is required to analyze the torque variation with angular positioning accuracy of the servo motor. This study focus on a measuring method and device for verifying angular positioning accuracy of NC servo motor. We used a high resolution An converter for acquiring analogue signal of rotary encoder in servo motor. The positional accuracy for a nominal tool path, which is generated by the combination of axial movements (X,Y,Z), is analyzed with the servo motor torque. The current variation signal is acquired at the power line using a hall sensor and converted to the loading torque of servo motor. The method of measurement and analysis proposed in this study will be used for determining the gains of parameter in NC controller. This gain tuning is also necessary when the controller is set up at a machine.

  • In this study, we described the design of a three-axis force/torque sensor for measuring the force and torque in a lower-limb rehabilitation robot. The three-axis force/torque sensor is composed of Fx force sensor, Fz force sensor and Tz torque sensor. The sensing element for Fx force sensor and Tz torque sensor is used in a two-step parallel plate beam, and that of Fz force sensor is used in a parallel plate beam. The rated loads of Fx force sensor, Tz torque sensor and Fz force sensor are 300 N, 15 N m and 100 N, respectively. The three-axis force/torque sensor was designed using the finite element method, and manufactured using strain-gauges. The three-axis force sensor was further characterized. As a result, the interference error of the three-axis force/torque sensor was < 1.24%, the repeatability error of each sensor was < 0.03%, and the non-linearity was < 0.02%.

  • Torque fluctuation of engine generate gear rattle noise of transmission and many researches have been studied to decrease rattle noise by adjusting clutch damper system. So design optimization of clutch system is very important to decrease rattle noise and need knowing clutch dynamic torque at real vehicle driving condition. This makes it possible to measure clutch dynamic torque by using a small-size magnetic sensor. We install a small-size magnetic sensor on the input shaft of the transmission and measure the relative angular displacement between clutch hub and disc plate. We can obtain the clutch torque correspond to the angular displacement in the clutch torsional characteristics test. The object of this research is to measure clutch dynamic torque on real vehicle condition. Therefore, Clutch dynamic torque is very useful for investigating operating range of clutch according to engine torque and predicting the damping performance of torsional vibration on the powertrain.

  • With the equivalent series circuit analyzed aby revolving field theory and drawn by using the equivalent circuit constant ratios in capacitor motor with windings not in quadrature having space harmonics in its magnetic field (the above ratios are the equivalent circuit constants for the fundamental flux to the magnetizing reactance of the circuit), the equation for the alternating torque with twice line freequency in the motor is directly derived, and the alternating torque is measured with the self-made stator vibration angle amplitude measuring apparatus that is composed of a pickup, filter, photoelectric pickoff etc. The measured values satisfactorily compared with computed values. The properties of the alternating torque characteristics for respective harmonic fluxes and the r5esultant alternating torque characteristic, the effects of the alternating torque characteristics for respective harmonic fluxes on the resultant alternating torque characteristic, the effects of the variation in the motor constants and the equivalent circuit constant ratios for the fundamental flux on the alternating torque characteristics for respective harmonic fluxes and the resultant alternating torque characteristic, are made clear, applying the equation. There exist the optimum values of the motor constants and the equivalent circuit constant ratios for the fundamental flux for decreasing the alternating torque, and the value could be determined in design by the method presented in this paper.

  • This study describes the precision control of the torque standard machine using a self-tuning fuzzy controller. The torque standard machine should generate the accurate torque for calibrating a torque sensor. In order to reduce the relative expanded uncertainty of the torque standard machine, when a weight is hanged to the end of the torque arm for generating the torque, the sloped torque arm should be accurately controlled to the horizontal level. If the slope of the torque arm is larger from the inaccurate control, the uncertainty of the torque standard machine due to control will be larger. This applies the inaccurate torque to a torque sensor to calibrate, and the measuring error of the torque sensor generate from it. Therefore the torque arm of the torque standard machine is accurately controlled. In this paper, the self-tuning fuzzy controller was designed using a fuzzy theory, and the torque arm of the torque standard machine was accurately controlled. The control gain of the fuzzy controller, that is the membership function size of the error, the membership function size of the error change and the membership function size of the controller were determined from the self-tuning. The control results of the torque standard machine were the overshoot within 0.0076mm, the rise time within 16.70sec and the steady state error within 0.0076mm.

  • In this paper, the torque of CNC spindle motor during machining is estimated without speed measuring sensor. The CNC spindle system is divided into two parts, the induction spindle motor part and mechanical part. In mechanical part, the variation of the frictional force due to the increment of the cutting torque and the effect of damping coefficient is investigated. Damping coefficient is found to be a function of spindle speed and not influenced by the weight of the load, while frictional force is a function of both the cutting torque and spindle speed. Experimental equations are drawn for damping coefficient and Coulomb friction as a function of spindle speed. Incremental frictional torque Is also obtained as a function of both cutting torque and spindle speed. Graphical programming is used to implement the suggested algorithm to monitor the torque of an induction motor in real time. Torque of the spindle induction motor is estimated well in about average 3% error range under various cutting conditions.

  • The purpose of this paper was to find an effective method for measuring electromagnetic torque produced by a brushless DC motor with single-phase current sensing in real-time. A torque equation is derived from the theory of brushless DC motor. This equation is then validated experimentally with a motor dynamometer. A computer algorithm is also proposed to implement the electromagnetic torque estimation equation in real-time. Electromagnetic torque is a linear function of phase current. Estimating the electromagnetic torque in real-time using single-phase current is not appropriate with existing equations, however, because of the rectangular alternating-pulse nature of the excitation current. With some mathematical manipulation to the existing equations, the equation derived in this paper overcame this limitation. The equation developed is simple and so it is computationally efficient, and it takes only motor torque constant and single-phase current to evaluate the electromagnetic torque; no other parameters such as winding resistances, inductances are needed. The equation derived is limited to the three-phase brushless DC motor. It can, however, easily be extended to the multiphase brushless DC motor with the technique described in this paper.

  • In order to measure yield stress of PIM feedstocks simply and effectively, a yield stress measuring technique was developed by a vane method. The vane method had an advantage that there was no wall-slip, while it had a drawback that it could not measure viscosity change at various shear rates. A Newtonian fluid was tested for the appropriateness of the measuring technique. The end effect of a vane was checked to produce an acceptable error. The torque peak has been considered to be developed at yielding of non-Newtonian fluids with yield stress. However, it was influenced very much by control system of the instrument so that the torque value at the stable region was taken to calculate yield stress. Torque at zero rotational speed was obtained by extrapolating the torque values at various speeds to remove the effect of the rotational drag. As general verification, yield stress of feedstocks made of Tungsten carbide powder with wax-based binder was measured at different temperatures and various powder concentrations.

  • PURPOSE. Implant site preparation may be adjusted to achieve the maximum possible primary stability. The aim of this investigation was to study the relation among bone-to-implant contact at insertion, bone density, and implant primary stability intra-operatively measured by a torque-measuring implant motor, when implant sites were undersized or tapped. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Undersized (n=14), standard (n=13), and tapped (n=13) implant sites were prepared on 9 segments of bovine ribs. After measuring bone density using the implant motor, 40 implants were placed, and their primary stability assessed by measuring the integral of the torque-depth insertion curve. Bovine ribs were then processed histologically, the bone-to-implant contact measured and statistically correlated to bone density and the integral. RESULTS. Bone-to-implant contact and the integral of the torque-depth curve were significantly greater for undersized sites than tapped sites. Moreover, a correlation between bone to implant contact, the integral and bone density was found under all preparation conditions. The slope of the bone-to-implant/density and integral/density lines was significantly greater for undersized sites, while those corresponding to standard prepared and tapped sites did not differ significantly. CONCLUSION. The integral of the torque-depth curve provided reliable information about bone-to-implant contact and primary implant stability even in tapped or undersized sites. The linear relations found among the parameters suggests a connection between extent and modality of undersizing and the corresponding increase of the integral and, consequently, of primary stability. These results might help the physician determine the extent of undersizing needed to achieve the proper implant primary stability, according to the planned loading protocol.
