In STP, network performance differs depending on topology configuration. Therefore, we need to configure right topology for the optimal efficiency of networking. This paper suggest the optimal topology configuration for efficient networking between ethernet switchs. It finds out the best topology configuration by calculation mathematical model which uses transmission time between root switch and other switchs in the same domain. And it also analysed performance difference on locations of root switch. Through the performance analysis, we could conclude that placing the root switch in the center is the most efficient.
This paper proposes a wireless LAN topology configuration method for enhancing indoor location-awareness and improving network performance simultaneously. We first develop four objective functions that yield objective goals significant to the optimal design of a wireless LAN topology in terms of location-awareness accuracy and network performance factors. Then, we develop metaheuristic algorithms such as simulated annealing, tabu search, and genetic algorithm that examine the proposed objective functions and generate a near-optimal solution for a given objective function. Finally, four objective functions and metaheuristic algorithms developed in this paper are exploited to evaluate and measure the performance of the proposed wireless LAN topology configuration method.
Seismic analysis for steel frame structure with brace configuration using topology optimization based on truss-like material model is studied. The initial design domain for topology optimization is determined according to original steel frame structure and filled with truss-like members. Hence the initial truss-like continuum is established. The densities and orientation of truss-like members at any point are taken as design variables in finite element analysis. The topology optimization problem of least-weight truss-like continuum with stress constraints is solved. The orientations and densities of members in truss-like continuum are optimized and updated by fully-stressed criterion in every iteration. The optimized truss-like continuum is founded after finite element analysis is finished. The optimal bracing system is established based on optimized truss-like continuum without numerical instability. Seismic performance for steel frame structures is derived using dynamic time-history analysis. A numerical example shows the advantage for frame structures with brace configuration using topology optimization in seismic performance.

This paper proposes a design technique of a survivable ship backbone network, which describes a near optimal configuration scheme of physical and logical topologies of which the survivable ship backbone network consists. We first analyze and present an efficient architecture of a survivable ship backbone network consisting of redundant links and ship devices with dual communication interfaces. Then, we present an integer linear programming-based configuration scheme of a physical topology with regard to the proposed ship backbone network architecture. Finally, we present a metaheuristic-based configuration scheme of a logical topology, underlying the physical topology.

NMS (Network Management System) is a system that is used for a small or large networks management. As the size of network becomes larger and the configuration information become complicated, it becomes more difficult to grasp the network status and it takes much time to diagnose the failure of the network equipment. In this paper, to alleviate the problems of NMS we implement web-based network topology automatically using JavaScript, Python, HTML5 based TWaver. The detailed implementation of the system include the automatic collection of the connection information based on the equipment information registered in the NMS system, the implementation of the web-based network topology and the remote fault diagnosis. In the network topology, we can expect to improve the quality of the NMS system through structured data management by adding the configuration management, fault management and performance management functions in a comprehensive manner.

A new electric coil design methodology using the notion of topology optimization is developed. The specific design problem in consideration is to find optimal coil configuration that maximizes the Lorentz force under given magnetic field. Topology optimization is usually formulated using the finite element method, but the novel feature of this method is that no such partial differential equation solver is employed during the whole optimization process. The proposed methodology allows the determination of not only coil shape but also the number of coil turns which is not possible to determine by any existing topology optimization concept and to perform single coil strand identification algorithm. The specific applications are made in the design of two-dimensional fine-pattern focusing coils of an optical pickup actuator. In this method, the concept of equivalent magnetizing current is utilized to calculate the Lorentz force, and the optimal coil configuration is obtained without any initial layout. The method is capable of generating the location and shape of turns of coil. To confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method in optical pickup applications, design problems involving multipolar permanent magnets are considered.
Conceptual configuration and seismic performance of high-rise steel frame-brace structure are studied. First, the topology optimization problem of minimum volume based on truss-like material model under earthquake action is presented, which is solved by full-stress method. Further, conceptual configurations of 20-storey and 40-storey steel frame-brace structure are formed. Next, the 40-storeystructure model is developed in Opensees. Two common configurations are utilized for comparison. Last, seismic performance of 40-storey structure is derived using nonlinear static analysis and nonlinear dynamic analysis. Results indicate that structural lateral stiffness and maximum roof displacement can be improved using brace. Meanwhile seismic damage can also be decreased. Moreover, frame-brace structure using topology optimization is most favorable to enhance lateral stiffness and mitigate seismic damage. Thus, topology optimization is an available way to form initial conceptual configuration in high-rise steel frame-brace structure.
A simulation package has been developed as an event-driven system that can handle the hardware configuration of STC104 and algorithm proposed in the sister paper of ‘Study on High Speed Routers(II).’After various STC104 topology of meshes, torus, and hypercubes are constructed using up to 512 switches, the performance of each topology has been analyzed under different message generation rate in terms of throughputs, latency, and packet blocking time. Modified multicast algorithms for STC104 have been proposed for STC104 after U-mesh and U-torus in order to overcome the multicasting difficulty because of the point-to-point communication method found in STC104. The performance of the multicast algorithms have been analyzed over meshes and torus configuration. Throughput gets higher in the order of mesh, torus, and hypercube. Throughput difference among topology were distinctive in the zone of high message generation rate. Latency and blocking time increased in the order of hypercube, torus, and mesh. U-mesh and U-torus of software multicast showed similar throughput, however, U-mesh peformed slightly better result. These algorithms showed eight to ten times better results compared to individual message pass for 90 destination nodes. Multi-link environment also showed better performance than single-link environment because multi-link network used the extra links for communication.
To reduce system complexity and implementation costs, fully-controlled H-bridge (FHB) modules and diode H-bridge PFC (DHB) modules are cascaded to form a hybrid cascaded H-bridge rectifier (HCHR). In this paper, the advantages of such a HCHR over other cascaded rectifiers are analyzed depending on the numbers of FHB modules and DHB modules. Therefore, to assign proper numbers to these two kinds of modules for the HCHR, a configuration determination method is investigated under balanced and imbalanced loads. Three principles are also presented to guide the configuration determination for the HCHR. In addition, the constraints for selecting the step-up ratio and filter inductance are derived based on a phasor diagram analysis. The proposed configuration determination method is validated by simulations under three different conditions in the PSIM environment. Finally, experiments are carried out on a scaled-down prototype where the configuration can be easily adjusted. The feasibility of the proposed theory is then verified by experimental results.
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) has commonly been used to strengthen existing RC structures. Wrapping the whole component with CFRP is an effective method and simple to execute. Besides, specific configuration of CFRP sheets (L, X and T shape) has also been considered in some experiments to examine CFRP effects in advance. This study aimed to provide an optimal CFRP configuration to effectively retrofit the beam-column connection using continuous material topology optimization procedure. In addition, Moved and Regularized Heaviside Functions and penalization factors were also considered. Furthermore, a multi-material procedure was also used to compare with the results from the single material procedure.
