When designing ships and aircraft structures, it is important to design them to satisfy weight reduction and strength. Currently, studies related to topology optimization using 3D printed composite materials are being actively conducted to satisfy the weight reduction and strength of the structure. In this study, structural analysis was performed to analyze the applicability of 3D printed composite materials to the flight control surface, one of the parts of an aircraft or unmanned aerial vehicle. The optimal topology shape of the flight control surface for the bending load was analyzed by considering three types (hexagonal, rectangular, triangular) of the topology shape of the flight control surface. In addition, the bending strength of the flight control surface was analyzed when four types of reinforcing materials (carbon fiber, glass fiber, high-strength high-temperature glass fiber, and kevlar) of the 3D printed composite material were applied. As a result of comparing the three-point bending test results with the finite element method results, it was confirmed that the flight control surface with hexagonal topology shape made of carbon fiber and Kevlar had excellent performance. And it is judged that the 3D printed composite can be sufficiently applied to the flight control surface.

An single stage AC/DC converter based on half bridge topology suitable for low power level applications is proposed. The proposed converter has high power factor, low harmonic distortion, and tight output regulations. Asymmetrical control and synchronous rectification are adopted to reduce the switching loss and rectification loss, respectively. The modelling employing average modelling method and detailed analysis are performed to derive the design equations. According to these design equations, a prototype converter has been designed and experimented. This prototype meets the IEC 555-2 regulations with near unity power factor and high efficiency.

This paper presents the methodology for optimal design of power grid for offshore wind power plant (OWPP) and optimum location of offshore substation. The proposed optimization process is based on a genetic algorithm, where the objective cost model is composed of investment, power loss, repair, and reliability cost using the net present value during the whole OWPP life cycle. A probability wind power output is modeled to reflect the characteristics of a wind power plant that produces electricity through wind and to calculate the reliability cost called expected energy not supplied. The main objective is to find the minimum cost for grid connection topology by submarine cables which cannot cross each other. Cable crossing was set as a constraint in the optimization algorithm of grid topology of the wind power plant. On the basis of this method, a case study is conducted to validate the model by simulating a 100-MW OWF.

We designed a 500W zero voltage switching DC / DC converter operating at 100Mhz with phase shift topology using UCC3895 driver. The dead time of the UCC3895 driver is designed so that the leading and lagging leg of the full bridge can be driven separately. So, the dead time can be given between the two legs separately. The dead time, which is an asymmetrical relationship between the two legs, enables the implementation of zero voltage switching. This paper proposed a negative feedback circuit design method for stable output voltage. The maximum efficiency of the prototype was 95.5% at $500{\Omega}$ load.
A simple procedure to add and remove material simultaneously along the boundary is developed to optimize the shape of a two dimensional elastic problems and to minimize the maximum von Mises stress. The results for the two dimensional infinite plate with a hole, are close to the theoretical results of an elliptical boundary and the stress concentration is reduced by half for the fillet problem. The proposed shape optimization method, when compared with existing derivative based shape optimization methods has many features such as simplicity, applicability, flexibility, computational efficiency and a much better control on stresses on the design boundary.

Multi-disciplinary optimization design concept can provide a solution to many engineering problems. In the field of structural analysis, much development of size or topology optimization has been achieved in the application of research. This paper demonstrates an optimum design of a multi-layer cylindrical tube which behaves thermoelastically. A multi-layer cylindrical tube that has several different material properties at each layer is optimized within allowable stress and temperature range when mechanical and thermal loads are applied simultaneously. To analyze these problems using an efficient and precise method, the optimization theories are adopted to perform thermoelastic finite element analysis.

When thermal loads are applied to a multi-layer tube, stress phenomena become complicated due to each layer's thermal expansion and the layer thicknesses. Factors like temperature; stress; and material thermal thicknesses of each tube layer are very difficult undertaking. To analyze these problems using an efficient and precise method, the optimization theories are adopted to perform thermoelastic finite element analysis.

Optimization technique to find a path of an inner reinforcement of an automobile hood is proposed by using design sensitivity informations. The strength and modal characteristics of the automobile hood are analyzed and their design sensitivity analyses with respect to the thickness are carried out using MSC/NASTRAN. Based on the design sensitivity analysis, determination of design variables and response functions is discussed. Techniques improving design from design sensitivity informations are suggested and the double-layer method is newly proposed to optimize the path of stiffener for a shell structure, Using the suggested method, we redesign a new inner reinforcement of an automobile hood and compare the responses with the original design. It is confirmed that new design improved in the frequency responses without the weight increasement.
Nowadays, many commercial CAD systems support history-based, constraint-based and feature-based modeling. Unfortunately, most systems fail during the re-evaluation phase when various kind of topological changes occur. This issue is known as "persistent naming" which refers to the problem of identifying entities in an initial parametric model and matching them in the re-evaluated model. Most works in this domain focus on the persistent naming of atomic entities such as vertices, edges or faces. But very few of them consider the persistent naming of aggregates like shells (any set of faces). We propose in this paper a complete framework for identifying and matching any kind of entities based on their underlying topology, and particularly shells. The identifying method is based on the invariant structure of each class of form features (a hierarchical structure of shells) and on its topological evolution (an historical structure of faces). The matching method compares the initial and the re-evaluated topological histories, and computes two measures of topological similarity between any couple of entities occurring in both models. The naming and matching method has been implemented and integrated in a prototype of commercial CAD Software (Topsolid).

The geometry in the weight reduction design is very required to be started from the conceptual design with low cost, high performance and quality. In this point, a topological shape fur optimization concerned with conceptual design of structure is important. The method used in this paper combines three optimization techniques, where the shape and physical dimensions of the structure and material distribution are hierachically optimized, with the maximum rigidity of structure and lightweight. As the applications, the technology of weight reduction design is applied on designs of aluminum control arm and inner panel of hood.
