The intensive rainfall over 455 mm occurred between on 9 to 14 July 2009 triggered debris flows around the mountain area in Jecheon County. We mapped the debris flow area and estimated the debris flow volume using a high resolution digital elevation model (DEM) generated respectively from terrestrial LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) and topographic maps. For the LiDAR measurement, the terrestrial laser scanning system RIEGL LMS-Z390i which is equipped with GPS system and high-resolution digital camera were used. After the clipping and filtering, the point data generated by LiDAR scanning were overlapped with digital map and produced DEM after debris flow. The comparison between digital map and LiDAR scanning result showed the erosion and deposition volumes of about $17,586m^3$ and $7,520m^3$, respectively. The LiDAR data allowed comprehensive investigation of the morphological features present along the sliding surface and in the deposit areas.

Using high-resolution stereoscopic aerial images (in 2008, 2012 and 2016), we conducted to analyze the spatial characteristics affecting evergreen coniferous die-off in the northwestern ridge (major distribution area such as Abies nephrolepis), Seoraksan National Park. The detected number of dead trees at evergreen coniferous forest (5.24㎢) was 1,223 in 2008, was 2,585 in 2012 and was 3,239 in 2016. The number of cumulated dead trees was 7,047 in 2016. In recent years, the number of dead trees increased relatively in the northwest ridge, Seoraksan National Park. Among the analysed spatial factor (altitude, aspect, slope, solar radiation and topographic wetness index), the number of dead trees was increased in the conditions with high altitude, steep slope and dry soil moisture. A spatial distribution of dead tree was divided into 2 groups largely (high altitude with high solar radiation, low altitude with steep slope). In conclusion, the dead trees of evergreen coniferous were concentrated at spatial distribution characteristics causing dryness in the northwestern ridge, Seoraksan National Park.
We investigated the flora and vegetation structure of exotic plants along stream geomorphology and disturbance factors in the riparian zone of Seunggi stream, Incheon. Total 53 exotic plant species were found in the riparian corridors of Seunggi stream. The percentage of exotics ranged from 25% to 33% of total species richness, and its mean value was 24% in the whole riparian area. The percentage of exotics reflected the vulnerability of riparian zones to plant invasions by disturbances, and it could be used as an indicator of riparian system dysfunction. The distinct distribution patterns of exotic plants did not found in the lateral topographic features of the stream. Invasion and proliferation of the exotic plants were somewhat remarkable at terraces and bank slopes of the stream. Among various disturbance factors, plowing and trampling were important on the invasion of exotic plant species of Seunggi stream.
In Namyang Bay of western Korea, macrotidal-flat deposits are divisible into three late Quaternary units: Unit M1 of upper marine mud, Unit T1 of middle siderite-bearing terrestrial clay, and Unit M2 of lower marine mud. Unit M1 represents typical Holocene intertidal mudflat deposits, showing a coarsening-upward textural trend. It probably resulted from the continual retrogradation of tidal flat during the mid-to-late Holocene sea-level rise. Reddish brown-color Unit T1 consists of homogeneous clay with abundant freshwater siderite grains and plant remains. Unit T1 is clearly separated from the overlying Unit M1 by a sharp lithologic boundary. Radiocarbon age, siderite grains and lithologic features indicate that Unit T1 is originated from freshwater bog or swamp deposition infilling the localized topographic lows during the early Holocene age. Overlain unconformably by early Holocene swamp clay, Unit M2 is orange to yellow in color and mottled, suggesting significant degree of weathering during the sea-level lowstand. Such subaerial oxidation is confirmed in the vertical profiles of geotechnical properties, clay mineral assemblages and magnetic susceptibility. Unit M2 appears to be correlated with the upper part of the late Pleistocene tidal deposits developed along the western Korean coast. The sedimentary succession of the Namyang-Bay tidal-flat deposit provides stratigraphic information for the Holocene-late Pleistocene unconformity and also permits an assessment of the preservation potential of the late Pleistocene marginal marine deposit along the western coast of Korea.

For various geospatial information such as planimetric and topographic features, the required accuracy may be defined depending on the purpose of GIS applications. Also, the accuracy of the geospatial information have a major impact on the quality of the raw surveying data. In order to be usefully applied the precise geospatial information, the accuracy standards must be appropriately set so that the digital map as base map can be accurately made. Before computer mapping and GIS technology existed, paper maps were drawn by hand. So, the map scale was a significant contributor to the map accuracy. As such the past, the accuracy of maps is determined the scale at which the map would be drawn, but recent trends are to treat accuracy as a one of quality elements, rather than a specification for producing the map. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to set the new korean map accuracy standards appropriate for the construction and application of the precise geospatial information on behalf of the current representation of korean digital maps.
In order to spatially interpolate the near-surface temperature (Ta) values, satellite and reanalysis methods were used from previous studies. Accuracy of reanalysis Ta was generally better than that of satellite-based Ta, but spatial resolution of reanalysis Ta was large to use at local scale studies. Our purpose is to evaluate accuracy of reanalysis Ta and satellite-based Ta according to elevation from April 2011 to March 2012 in Northeast Asia that includes various topographic features. In this study, we used reanalysis data that is ERA-Interim produced by European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), and estimated satellite-based Ta using Digital Elevation Meter (DEM), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), difference between brightness temperature of $11{\mu}m$ and $12{\mu}m$, and Land Surface Temperature (LST) data. The DEM data was used as auxiliary data, and observed Ta at 470 meteorological stations was used in order to evaluate accuracy. We confirmed that the accuracy of satellite-based Ta was less accurate than that of ERA-Interim Ta for total data. Results of analyzing according to elevation that was divided nine cases, ERA-Interim Ta showed higher accurate than satellite-based Ta at the low elevation (less than 500 m). However, satellite-based Ta was more accurate than ERA-Interim Ta at the higher elevation from 500 to 3500 m. Also, the width of the upper and lower quartile appeared largely from 2500 to 3500 m. It is clear from these results that ERA-Interim Ta do not consider elevation because of large spatial resolution. Therefore, satellite-based Ta was more effective than ERA-Interim Ta in the regions that is range from 500 m to 3500 m, and satellite-based Ta was recommended at a region of above 2500 m.
Caves can serve as major outposts for future human exploration of the Moon and Mars. In addition, caves can protect people and electronic equipment from external hazards such as cosmic ray radiation and meteorites impacts and serve as a shelter. Numerous pit craters have been discovered on the Moon and Mars and are potential entrances to caves; the principal topographic features of pit craters are their visible internal floors and pits with vertical walls. We have devised two topographical models for investigating the relationship between the topographical characteristics and the inner void of pit craters. One of our models is a concave floor void model and the other is a convex floor tube model. For each model, optical photographs have been obtained under conditions similar to those in which optical photographs have been acquired for craters on the Moon and Mars. Brightness profiles were analyzed for determining the profile patterns of the void pit craters. The profile patterns were compared to the brightness profiles of Martian pit craters, because no good-quality images of lunar pit craters were available. In future studies, the model profile patterns will be compared to those of lunar pit craters, and the proposed method will likely become useful for finding lunar caves and consequently for planning lunar bases for manned lunar expeditions.
The response of sea levels to a typhoon in the north Japanese coast in the Japan Sea is investigated by using hourly ses level data($1966{\sim}1986$) and a numerical shallow water model with high resolution($5'{\times}5'$). The observed sea level analysis shows (1) progressive waves exist between Simonoseki(SS) and Maizuru(MZ) with the mean phase speed of about 4 m/s during the passage of the typhoon, (2) the phase speed between Sasebo(SB) and HK(Hakata) is slower(about 1.7 m/s), and (3) the maximum sea level at HK is achieved about 0.5 day later than that of SS. In many aspects, the numerical model results correspond well to the above observed features. In the model the progressive waves are identified as a topographic wave with the phase speed of about 4 m/s. Before the typhoon passes through the Korea Strait/ the Tsushima Strait, the wave propagations along the Japanese coast are significantly influenced by the southwestward coastal jet induced by the wind stress parallel to the coast. The waves start to propagate northeastward along the coast when the coastal jet is weakened.

The Spatial Image contents of Geomorphology 3-D environment is focused by the requirement and importance in the fields such as, national land development plan, telecommunication facility management, railway construction, general construction engineering, Ubiquitous city development, safety and disaster prevention engineering. The currently used DEM system using contour lines, which embodies geographic information based on the 2-D digital maps and facility information has limitation in implementation in reproducing the 3-D spatial city. Moreover, this method often neglects the altitude of the rail way infrastructure which has narrow width and long length. This As the results, We confirmed the solutions of varieties application for railway facilities management using 3-D spatial image contents and database design. Also, I suggested that U-city using topographical modeling about matching methods of high density elevation value using 3-D aerial photo with laser data are best approach for detail stereo modeling and simulation.
Digital filters designed using wavelet theory are applied to bathymetry data acquired from KR5 area of Korea Deepsea Mining Area. The filters used in this study are the linear B-spline wavelet filter and derivative of a Cubic B-spline filter. With proper tuning of the digital filters, we can identify the location and orientation of the abyssal hill and abyssal trough in bathymetry. These features obtained from the digital filters are well correlated with bathymetric image. This quantitative information, which can be used to understand the underlying geophysical processes, can be further processed to obtain the spacing, orientation and distribution of the abyssal hill. This wavelet analysis of bathymetry provides good data to select the mining site.
